Housman Court cares for people living with dementia in a warm and welcoming environment which is a home from home.

The highly skilled team cares for residents with compassion and dedication and ensure the residents are supported to lead a better quality of life and are encouraged to remain as independent as possible.

Housman Court offers personalised residential care for older people living with dementia, as well as day and respite care.

Respite care is offered for a duration of one to six weeks, enabling carers to have some time to themselves to run errands or perhaps an opportunity to ease the transition into long term care. Potential residents are invited to spend a day - at no cost - to familiarise before a longer stay.

With regular entertainment and activities the residents receive both the physical and mental support needed to provide a stimulating and engaging environment to enhance their well-being.

Housman Court has its own pub, tea room and hairdressing salon for all residents to enjoy. Outside there are accessible and secure gardens.

Housman Court is in the heart of the town centre enabling residents to maintain close links with the community and take trips to the shops.

My mother came to live in this residential home in August 2020 until she passed away in December 2020. I cannot believe the change in my mum in those few months. She went from being untidy and dirty to looking smart and clean. All the things that she couldn’t do at home, because of her dementia, the
wonderful team at Housman Court helped her to do. She put on weight, which we had struggled to do with her in her own home. The most wonderful thing though was the Facebook page where photos are posted showing the residents doing some wonderful things. I never imagined I would see my mum enjoying cooking, exercise classes, playing ball and singing along to her favourite old-time tunes. They take the residents out for day trips and my mum loved these. The staff are so friendly and even though my mum was only there a short time, they always knew my name and made me feel like part of their family.

Our mom has been in Housman Court for 4 years and we can not fault the loving, thoughtful and caring way in which she is cared for. It is very homely and the staff genuinely love the residents. We are proud of the fact they are surviving the current pandemic without a single case and long may it continue.
Well done and thank you for the safe way you have cared for our mom during this unprecedented time.

This distant relative had weekly daycare for a number of years whilst living in one of the on-site flats. Following a medical crisis she needed respite care which, in fact, became permanent residential care for the last 3 years. In normal circumstances I visit weekly and take this relative out; I am
made very welcome by staff who always recognise me and update me on any medical or other issues I need to be made aware of. The residents are always clean and tidy and wearing their own clothes. Staff work well as a team and have a "fun" attitude, making the most of any celebration. Because Housman Court is relatively small there is a friendly family feel to the home. Even under the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are kept well-informed through FaceBook, Skype etc. My relative appears to be content, well-settled and happy.

My dad has been a full-time resident at Houseman Court for nearly a year, before that he went for daycare. The staff are providing excellent care and support for all his needs. He is well looked after and well-fed. The Facebook page they have set up is a lovely way to see updates and photos in this
current situation.

My Dad has been a resident at Housman Court for about a year. He seems to be very happy there, they are keeping him well-fed, safe and entertained with lots of activities. Very quickly into the Covid-19 situation, they set up a Facebook page so that we could keep up to date with activities and seeing
our relatives looking happy and well. It's been a great service in these difficult times and Dad is still smiling. Thank you.

We have a family member resident at this home and are astonished at the level of care provided. He is treated with great dignity and always looks well dressed and normally responsive to our visits. We have nothing but praise for the staff as they look after him so well. Thank you to all the staff of

Housman Court is a friendly and caring environment. I have no worries or concerns about the safety, care and well being of my relative who has been resident there for the past 18 months or so. There are lots of outings and activities for residents to get involved with. Lovely staff, all very friendly

My father was a resident at Housman Court until September 2018 when he sadly died. I just want to say how wonderful the staff at Housman were to both my father and myself. We were both treated with kindness and respect at all times. They went out of their way to settle dad into the home - and he wasn't
the easiest to please! The staff were very accommodating to all his needs and went above and beyond to ensure he was happy. Whenever I visited, I was always offered refreshments and if dad was having his lunch, I was offered a hot meal also. I witnessed the staff entertaining the residents by playing games with them, there were sing-a-longs provided by visiting entertainers and trips out provided to those that wanted them. I cannot praise Housman Court strongly enough. Thank you, everyone, I will never forget your kindness.

The staff at Housman Court are very caring, and my father seems content to be there. My father has dementia and I get the impression that most of the other residents also have dementia. I turn up to visit at any time in the morning or afternoon, sometimes seeing him in the lounge or dining room, otherwise
upstairs in his room. All the staff I encounter are friendly and whenever I see them interacting with a resident it is always in a kindly way.

During the eleven years my mother was a resident at Housman Court the overall standard of care was of a high standard and especially the end of life care was excellent. Any problems of concerns I ever had were always dealt with efficiently. It was always a pleasure for me to visit the home too.

Mom was at Housman Court for four and a half years. Although the building was not purpose built, meaning narrow corridors and small bedrooms. The care mom received was wonderful. This included care for the family at the end of mum's life. The carers we had dealings with were second to none and dealt
with any issues we may have had. The building needed better double glazing but overall it was the best place for my mother at a difficult time in our lives.

Due to mum reaching the point that she needed specialist care to meet her needs she moved into Housman Court. This is such a tough emotional decision for families. However we have been repeatedly assured that the decision was the best for mum by the loving and professional care shown by all the staff.
The staff are very welcoming, you can visit anytime you like. Mum always seems relaxed and content. Any minor issues can be discussed openly and resolved amicably.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.861)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.861) out of 10 for Housman Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.161 for Housman Court is calculated as follows: ( (49 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 93 Ratings = 4.161

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Housman Court is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
