The Review Score of 6.9 (maximum of 10) for Weston House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 3.7 out of 5 from 3 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Weston House in Google's Search Results - more info
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 3.794 for Weston House is calculated as follows: ( (14 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 34 Ratings = 3.794
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 3.132 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Weston House is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:
3 = 3
Target of 7.6 positive Reviews (38 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 1 Reviews ÷ 7.6 Target = 0.132

Our mum who recently passed away last month in Weston House had extremely good care throughout the last 18 months she was resident there, with Alzheimer's and dementia. The manager and her staff did a terrific job caring for her every need. She was treated as though she was in her own home, which therefore made her at ease and comfortable. We could phone at any time to check on her well being and the staff were always happy to talk and discuss matters. Our mum had a wonderful 18 months under the care of Weston House. We can't thank them enough.

My stepfather who recently passed away was looked after by Weston House for the past 2 years whilst suffering from Alzheimer's. During that time, the staff have been caring to my stepfather and helpful whenever he was poorly or I had questions about his care.

My father was not happy with the lack of care that he received. He was not washed or offered a bath, his personal hygiene suffered. We had to send in his carers that had helped him at home to make sure he was not getting red and sore between his groin. One carer tried to get my father to stand by grabbing him by the back of his trousers and pulling him up. As you can imagine this was very painful. We will be moving Dad as soon as possible.

Diane Phoenix, Manager at Weston House responded to this review on 01 Jun 2016:
This gentleman came to Weston house as the care agency felt he was not safe on his own, he was not happy about coming into care but he was persuaded to give it a go, the care agency asked if they could continue to come and see him on a regular basis to give him some continuity and a familiar face, I agreed this was a good idea as I know he was really struggling with leaving his home. The care agency asked after a couple of days if they could come in every day to give one-one support (as this is what the gentleman was used to) again I agreed this was good idea. This gentleman did have washes and shaves, I supported him myself one night after he had a meeting and my deputy supported the shave.On Tuesday the 3rd a bath was requested for the next day by the gentleman, prior to this he had said no to us which we didn't push as we felt he needed time to get to no us, we asked what time he would like it, he was not sure as he had a meeting at 3 0 clock but he also wanted to go the activities planed and have a bath, we agreed we would inform him when his visitor came, his visitor did not turn up until after 5pm after they left he said he did not want a bath , The care agency only came into to socialise, we did all personal care (Debbie) care kind did infact complement my team on the good job they were doing.
Food, this gentleman had very specific requirements for breakfast,3 Weetabix,1 shredded wheat, sprinkle of Muesli banana , demerara sugar and plenty of milk(cold) after a couple of days he said he didn't want this any more, he would like egg and bacon, which was provided, menus are provided to choose your food, but our cooks will cook other food if asked. I am truly sorry that this gentleman did not have a good experience at Weston, but we may have been able to make his stay more comfortable if his family had asked to speak to me to express their concerns, he was only with us for a couple of weeks and was moved to a nursing home.
