My mother came for a two week respite whilst I had a hospital visit. The service she received was first class, I could only visit for the second week due to my recovery but my uncle and auntie visited often and they said it was the best care home they had ever been in. My mother is not at the stage to be a resident in care full-time but if and when she is I will definitely choose James Hirons.

James Hirons Care home is really the most wonderful care home.
My father initially came for respite in October 2025 following a prolonged hospital admission and within a couple of days he had decided to become a permanent resident.
The care is second to none and everyone who works at James Hirons are incredibly professional, empathic, supportive and wonderful at looking after the residents and have been very supportive to me as a family member. They have enabled my father to settle in and feel at home. The environment is so lovely with a beautiful garden.
My father enjoys all of the activities on offer and he loves being busy and engaging with the other residents. This is so important after being at home on his own struggling day to day after my mother went into another care home with advanced dementia a couple of years ago.

Thank you so much to all of the staff at James Hirons.

I cannot fault the care and comfort of the home. All the staff were considerate of my needs even in the middle of the night. I'd never hesitate to recommend the home.

Our father suffered a number of serious health challenges in the last few months of his life, but nothing was too much trouble for the staff at James Hirons. They adapted to whatever he needed at the time, ensured he was comfortable, and spent time with him when he was worried. The staff demonstrated an exceptional level of care, professionalism, tact and kindness to our dad, and they were so warm and friendly to visitors. The home feels like one big family, all working together for the benefit of their residents. We are indebted to James Hirons for making our dad's final few months as happy and comfortable as possible.

My Mother and Father (in their 90's) first came to James Hirons for respite care and very quickly became permanent residents in 2024. The care that they received was excellent and the staff are happy, very professional and friendly - and extremely kind. They welcomed Mum and Dad who very quickly felt at home in their own rooms, surrounded by their own belongings.
There is a vibrant activity schedule (arts and crafts, knitting, excercises etc) for those that want it and the large gardens are gorgeous - packed with beautiful plants and well maintained, with hidden areas to discover at the bottom. Mum and I spent many afternoons enjoying it.
My father received excellent end of life care - he was so well looked after, something I will always be very grateful for. Mum was very well supported (over and above) in navigating the next year or so without him.
The Doctors Surgery who visit once a week are really good.

I couldn't have wished for anything more for my independent Mum and Dad.

My father was resident at James Hirons for over 5 years, including the Covid lockdown period when we were unable to visit. All aspects of Dad's care were first class, but I would make particular mention of the things he enjoyed. Firstly continuity of staff so that he got to know them and enjoy their company. Secondly, he loved the food which is of excellent quality. He didn't take part in many activities but enjoyed the entertainers and the variety of talks. Dad loved the garden with its peaceful atmosphere; beautifully planted and cared for.
From the family's point of view we were grateful for the regular communication and for the peace of mind of knowing that Dad's care was consistently good while being personalised and responsive. Great care is taken to celebrate events during the year including residents' birthdays.

The staff did everything they could to facilitate family communication during Covid, including a Zoom 90th birthday party. Thank you to everyone at James Hirons.

My Mother has been very happy with the care she has received and although she has taken some time to get used to the routine at James Hirons her main issues have been the distance from her friends and previous social life, hence her move back to Solihull.

After living alone for many years and then moving into James Hirons, the difference in the demeanour of our family member is astonishing. He expresses daily how well he is cared for and tells us about all the lovely things the staff do that make him feel safe and comfortable. For instance, when the day staff leave their shift they come to say goodnight to him and have a chat. Nothing he needs is ever a problem and there is never a negative attitude about anything at all. Eating freshly prepared food instead of ready meals is great and even the chef pops in for a daily chat. In the words of our family member: “It’s as if they’ve all had special training in how to be nice to me, but I know it’s just how they are.”

Mum will have been a resident of The James Hirons Care Home for two years in March. I can highly recommend the home and cannot fault the care and attention she receives.
The staff take care of her with great patience as she is bedridden now.

The food is good also.

My father has lived at James Hirons since September 2021 and is very happy and content.
Every time we see him, he tells us how great the team are and how they cannot do enough for him.
The team are wonderful, very welcoming and always smiling.
The home has a lovely atmosphere, a beautiful garden and pleasant shared spaces.
I am extremely happy with the way my father is being looked after and cared for.

I would highly recommend James Hirons.

Overall Experience
Our mother was a resident for almost five years until November 2022 before she died. Her stay at James Hirons, from day one, was a hugely positive experience. The staff have always been unfailingly kind and compassionate. The home, being a not-for-profit rather than part of a business, always felt more homely than commercial care homes with which I am also familiar. As a result, it wasn’t difficult to establish relationships of friendship with so many of the staff.
James Hirons has a wide range of activities for residents, somewhat curtailed during the covid years of course, but even then, every measure was taken to keep the residents safe. Mum’s last few months showed the staff at their very best. We were constantly impressed by the loving care shown towards her. Nothing was ever too much trouble.

I can't recommend James Hirons too highly. A great place with truly great staff.

I can't praise high enough the standard of care my mother received for a number of years. What makes James Hirons special is the genuine warmth of the staff for residents and their relatives and friends. It is the staff and management who make this an exceptional care home that I have no reservations in recommending.

Overall Experience

From the first day we brought my mother-in-law into James Hirons we knew she would be happy. The warm, caring family atmosphere was so reassuring as were her smiles. The professionalism and vocational love underpinned every aspect of life for her. The uniqueness of each person was celebrated and nurtured. She always complimented the care and love of each member of staff whether they be nursing or auxiliary. ‘They are my friends’ she often said. We knew that she felt valued and loved and was listened to as she shared a joke or story. She and ourselves felt the staff were very special and kind at all times. During the Pandemic, James Hirons was exemplary, ensuring outstanding safety and health routines in all aspects. After five very content years, her care during a short illness and end of life was outstanding. We were humbled by the level of caring support of both my mother-in-law and ourselves. We can never truly relate our deep gratitude for such a unique home in which empathy and love permeate.

I have remained friends with several of the residents and staff and continue to visit regularly, after my mother spent the last period of her life there. My mother received excellent and respectful care whilst a resident at The James Hirons Care Home and during my continued visits to the home I see the same positive attitude extended to all the current residents. Finding such a good place for our Mum was a huge relief at a difficult time in our lives and we remain grateful to James Hirons for its exceptional care.
