My son was in hospital from March to August with lots of medical issues. As he started to improve it became apparent that he needed a different surrounding. He was transferred to Branfield mid August and after the initial 'changes' my son soon settled into his need care regime. All staff were very helpful,
informative, respectful and pleasant, carrying out their duties to a high standard. A timetable of activities for residents always available on the notice board near the main entrance door. My son made very good progress at Barnfield and I'd like to thank everyone for making his stay happy and comfortable.
Reply from Rebecca Wass, Home Manager at Barnfield Care HomeThank you for sharing your lovely feedback.
We were delighted to welcome your son and support him as he regained his strength, and the team were proud to help him settle into a routine that suited his needs. He was very well thought of by everyone and is genuinely missed. Your kind words mean so much to the staff, who always strive to care with warmth, dignity and respect. We are so pleased to hear he made such positive progress and that his stay at Barnfield was comfortable and happy. We all wish him the very best for the future.

This will be my last review, for the weeks leading up to my husband dying at the end of October 2025.
He had been at Barnfield for sixteen months and in all that time he had been very settled. All the staff took so much care, whether it was personal care, joining in with activities and being encouraged
to do as much as he possibly could. His communication became very poor as time went on, but he always had a smile for all the staff. Whenever something happened, whether it was through a fall or a medical concern, I was always informed and I was able to go up to the Home to reassure myself. In the last weeks, as he deteriorated, the care the staff gave him was exemplary. They also looked after family members, who came from all over the country and abroad, to see him. Being with him during his last week was particularly stressful and I cannot give enough thanks to all the staff, day and night, for the care and support that allowed my husband to have a peaceful death. Thank you Barnfield.
Reply from Rebecca Wass, Home Manager at Barnfield Care HomeThank you for sharing such a thoughtful and heartfelt words.
It was a joy and a privilege for us to know your husband, and just as special to know you. I know I speak for the whole team when I say that caring for him was an honour, and we will hold his memory close. We are so glad you felt welcomed, informed, and supported, and that you were able to spend meaningful time with him here. It brings us comfort to know his final days were peaceful and surrounded by love.
Thank you again for the trust you placed in us, and for the warmth you showed to everyone here. You and your family remain in our thoughts.

My husband moved into Barnfield in April 2025. From the first visit looking round to the day he sadly passed away, we were all treated with dignity l, kindness and respect. The care and compassion shown was excellent. Whether it was a quick hello as I came to visit or needing a shoulder to cry on if
it wasn't such a good visit, the staff were always there for us. The home was always clean and bright and the food cooking smelt lovely. Thank you will never be enough for how grateful I am for all the staff and their support.
Reply from Rebecca Wass, Home Manager at Barnfield Care HomeThank you very much, Ann, for your kind and heartfelt review.
We were deeply saddened by your husband's passing, and we would like to extend our sincere condolences to you and your family. We are truly grateful for your lovely comments about the care, compassion and support shown by our team. We are also pleased to hear that you found the home clean, bright and welcoming.

Barnfield is clean, tidy and bright. Staff are helpful, approachable and responsive to mums needs. Her room is a good size, quiet and well lit. We are also able to add personal items in her room. Mum seems to be enjoying her food. It is nice that they bring snacks and drinks mid morning and afternoon.
They have activities going off most days and live entertainment occasionally.

I know mum is in safe hands and treated with respect and dignity.

The staff are compassionate, friendly and very supportive. The overall care that my mum has received has been excellent during a very difficult time in her life. The management staff are informative and any questions that I have are answered quickly and are approachable. Mum has settled in and more
importantly has a better quality of life, whilst still retaining her independence. She is regularly encouraged to join in with activities and also to join other residents in the communal areas. I would highly recommend Barnfield to anyone who is seeking care of a loved one.

Having been a councillor on three authorities and the fire authority totaling some 50 years and at the same time working in care for some 23 years.. whilst being a trustee on a number of caring charities, I'm in a position to be able to assess what is good or bad quality care. I can honestly say I can't
fault the staff or the care in Barnfield Care Home in any way. With regards to the facilities where activities take place they do look a little dated but the rooms and eating area are quite adequate.

Very pleasing to see carers who care. All the clients were clean and dressed. Friendly staff. Nice and warm and homely. Even Dad, who doesn't like having or being given a shave, was smart, sat in a chair.
Thank you all for the hard work and dedication looking after my parent.

My wife was moved to Barnfield Care Home because of her need for nurse care.
On arrival, which was one day later than planned, she could not be taken to her agreed room because the lift was not suitable. I was not happy. She was allocated a ground-floor room. I visited her the next day and was I surprised.
The room was very good, clean, well fitted and I was amazed to see how she had adapted to her new home. The staff were welcoming and I was delighted. Well done Barnfield.

Mum is well looked after and always kept warm and safe.
She is protected from falls which was previously a big problem. Although she is still underweight, she is encouraged to eat and various methods have been used to achieve this. The staff are very understanding about her own ways. The home is clean
and a safe space.
I find the home well-managed and can only congratulate the management.

I'm really impressed by the care that Dad is receiving at Barnfield. The staff are lovely, and clearly think a lot of him from their interactions with him that I've witnessed, and he likes them very much as well. I think they have all done a sterling job during which has been a very difficult time due
to Covid. I've been really impressed by the cleanliness when I've visited, and feel confident in the care that he is receiving. Thank you all so much.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.569)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.569) out of 10 for Barnfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.694 for Barnfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (131 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 173 Ratings = 4.694
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barnfield Care Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Rebecca Wass

Job Title: Registered Home Manager Joined: 2025

I have worked in health and social care since 2018 and feel incredibly proud of the journey that has led me into home management. I began my career as a Care Assistant and have progressed through senior and leadership roles, which has given me a strong understanding of care from every level and a deep appreciation of how important compassion, patience, and consistency are in everyday life within a care home.

My passion lies in creating a home where residents feel comfortable, listened to, and genuinely cared for as individuals. I believe the best care comes from taking the time to truly know each person; their life story, preferences, routines, and what makes them feel safe and happy. I have extensive experience supporting people living with dementia and complex needs, and I am deeply committed to promoting dignity, choice, and independence at every stage of care.

I am very hands-on and approachable in my role and believe families should feel confident, involved, and reassured. I enjoy supporting and developing staff, creating a positive and respectful culture, and ensuring high standards are met without losing the warmth and humanity that make a place feel like home. Open communication and strong relationships are central to how I work.

My vision for Barnfield is to continue developing it into a welcoming, homely environment where residents feel settled and valued, and where families feel peace of mind. I am committed to ongoing improvements not only in care delivery, documentation, and compliance, but also in the physical environment and the overall experience of living at the home. I believe small changes, made thoughtfully and consistently, can make a meaningful difference to quality of life.

I am always happy to speak with families, friends, or anyone considering Barnfield for future care. Whether you have questions, concerns, or simply want to understand more about how we support our residents, I will always do my best to listen, help, and provide honest, supportive guidance.
