Over the last five years, I have visited my mother. She enjoys her time out with family and friends for lunch and trips to garden centres etc. In the past years, it has been upsetting to witness her distress and upset in returning to the care home, which on occasion has resulted in a display of difficult
behaviour. Although I live away, I do get regular visit/wellbeing updates. I have been pleasantly surprised on this visit of her happiness and willingness on her return from lunch. My main concern is the overall smell (urine), although I know difficult, please deal with this.

My sister has bee a resident at Barnfield Care Home for the last 3/4 years. Initially, I was not keen to have my sister there. However, earlier this year the service has seen an exceptional upturn in the service that is now provided and my sister appears happy and settled. Everyone who cares for her
is kind and compassionate and eagre for her to be involved in different activities!

We have found all the management and staff very approachable, supportive and dedicated. They have made my brother to feel very welcome and also supported. He settled into the home quickly. The room is clean, warm and the atmosphere in the home is positive and calm. His first month has been excellent
and he has been made to feel a part of life in the home.

Placing our Dad at Barnfield has been the best thing we could, as daughters, do for him. He is looked after and happy in his surroundings. The staff are lovely. When activities are taking place they take photos for us so we can see and be assured Dad is still having some quality of life. We feel comfortable
leaving our most treasured Dad in the care of the staff at Barnfield; knowing he will be looked after and safe. I cannot praise them enough. With our Dad, they have been excellent.

I was looking for somewhere for respite for my Mum and visited Barnfield Carehome. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the staff were obviously very caring. I decided that she would be happy there. She has been there a few weeks and has been treated with respect by the caring and helpful staff.
There are a lot of activities organised for the residents who are encouraged to participate. There is a variety of food on offer and it is a lovely idea that there is a snack table for residents to help themselves. There are various different lounges and also a conservatory. There is a small garden which is well maintained and enjoyed by the residents. My Mum enjoyed being taken into the garden to get some fresh air. Thank you to all the staff for the care they give.

As my Mum has only been in the home for six months, my brother, sister and I have all agreed that her progress in her mental health is excellent. The staff, who mum relates to, have really helped her with her personal care and rebuilding her confidence.

Management and staff always seem available for both residents and visitors. The home seems to be well involved with the local community and arrange lots of days out and interactive activities. Everyone seems very friendly which projects a nice environment. The rooms and general decor would benefit from
a refurb as they seem a little tired and dated. I also think that Barnfield Care Home would benefit from having its own kitchen to prepare meals.

After 7 years of caring for my mum at home, I was worried at my mum going into long term care. As it turns out the excellent staff at Barnfield made the transition easy, our family are stunned at the kindness, quality of care, cleanliness and genuine "being in your own home" atmosphere provided. From
my initial "out of the blue" drop in to check out the place, the homely feeling of the place shone through and still continues. As well as excellent care being given to my mum staff go out of their way to address the feelings and needs of relatives too. To sum up if I were in need of care, this is where to come.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.569)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.569) out of 10 for Barnfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.694 for Barnfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (131 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 173 Ratings = 4.694
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barnfield Care Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Rebecca Wass

Job Title: Registered Home Manager Joined: 2025

I have worked in health and social care since 2018 and feel incredibly proud of the journey that has led me into home management. I began my career as a Care Assistant and have progressed through senior and leadership roles, which has given me a strong understanding of care from every level and a deep appreciation of how important compassion, patience, and consistency are in everyday life within a care home.

My passion lies in creating a home where residents feel comfortable, listened to, and genuinely cared for as individuals. I believe the best care comes from taking the time to truly know each person; their life story, preferences, routines, and what makes them feel safe and happy. I have extensive experience supporting people living with dementia and complex needs, and I am deeply committed to promoting dignity, choice, and independence at every stage of care.

I am very hands-on and approachable in my role and believe families should feel confident, involved, and reassured. I enjoy supporting and developing staff, creating a positive and respectful culture, and ensuring high standards are met without losing the warmth and humanity that make a place feel like home. Open communication and strong relationships are central to how I work.

My vision for Barnfield is to continue developing it into a welcoming, homely environment where residents feel settled and valued, and where families feel peace of mind. I am committed to ongoing improvements not only in care delivery, documentation, and compliance, but also in the physical environment and the overall experience of living at the home. I believe small changes, made thoughtfully and consistently, can make a meaningful difference to quality of life.

I am always happy to speak with families, friends, or anyone considering Barnfield for future care. Whether you have questions, concerns, or simply want to understand more about how we support our residents, I will always do my best to listen, help, and provide honest, supportive guidance.
