  • Wallfield House Residential Home, Derby
Previous winner of the "East Midlands Best Small Care Home" under the Best Care Home Awards, Wallfield House assists residents to live comfortably in a calm and relaxing environment. Trained carers are available to support residents round-the-clock, each resident is helped to live as independently as possible.

The core values are based around recognising that it is, first and foremost, the home of all the residents. Staff provide support and care, whilst always respecting that they are visiting the residents’ home, rather than residents living in a workplace.

The home has a warm, homely and caring environment to ensure that each resident feels secure, happy and safe in the knowledge that well trained, friendly, caring staff are there to support and enable each resident to live a fulfilled and happy life.

The home has been tastefully decorated and each bedroom can be personalised by residents using their own furniture and belongings if they prefer.

Wallfield House will never move to a policy of buying pre-made ready meals. The home understands the importance of excellent home-made, nutritious meals and the positive impact this has on Residents. Fresh, local, nutritional food is served everyday which is adapted to suit the requirements of each individual.

Wallfield House has an excellent relationship with the GP and District Nurse service. Weekly reviews of each resident are carried out by either community matron or GP.

Mum has been a resident for a few months now. As soon as she moved in it felt like home. She's made so many new friends with the staff. She's well fed and looked after, spending so long on her own, she wishes she'd made the decision to move into Wallfield House years ago. The place does need some fresh
decoration but overall the value for money is excellent.

Wallfield is a large airy Edwardian home in a small country town. The rooms are spacious and light. The dining room area is large enough for residents to gather together. The stairs and lift access to first-floor bedrooms which have integral toilets, showering is elsewhere. The kitchen areas are large,
and the staff very friendly and welcoming (despite our arrival at the end of the pandemic) but, in particular, very caring, so it's a fine roomy house with great caring staff.

Although at times, being overstretched, the staff do their best to be friendly, helpful and available to answer any questions I may have. My dad's call alarm is always answered promptly. Wallfield's has the feel of a family home rather than a residents home. Emails are sent to inform relatives of any
changes, alerts for fee payments or pocket money as required. Attention from the local GP surgery and district nurse is good, with podiatry and hairdressing regularly available.

My mother has been a resident of Wallfield Care Home for over two years. She is very happy there. The staff are very kind and caring. As it is a small home, she gets to know the staff well, and they know her well too. The home is welcoming, clean and bright and the food is excellent. My mother now eats
very well and her tastes are catered for. She is kept well hydrated. There is a lot of attention to detail, such as china teacups and tempting food. Communication is good, staff are never too busy to answer queries and give advice. Residents are treated as individuals. Any medical needs are dealt with promptly and the community matron visits regularly. My mother is a dog lover and a therapy dog visits her once a week much to her delight. Thanks to all the staff for their care and attention to detail.

Went to this care home to recuperate after spinal problems, and I found the experience very good.
The staff were professional, well trained, but most of all caring and empathetic.
Often kitchen and housekeeping are overlooked, but in this home they are definitely part of the team and keep the house
very clean and turn out delicious well cooked fresh food.
I cannot speak too highly of Wallfield House Residential Home which is well managed and like a home from home

My mother has been a resident at Wallfield for nearly 3 years. The atmosphere is one of an extended family, with many of the staff living locally. They have always tried to be very accommodating to my mother's wishes, even when she has been very demanding. It is a testament to the quality of the food
and care she has received, that when she had pneumonia recently and given only hours to live by the hospital, that she was able to fight off the infection and return to Wallfield in a couple of weeks. It's a relief to know that she is being cared for by people who know her, in a safe environment.

This home is ideal for my stepfather. It is conveniently situated and is very comfortable. The owners have only been running this home for a relatively short period of time, so improvements are taking some time but ongoing.

My mother has been at Wallfield House for nearly 3 years.
The staff seem to be quite caring and seem to care for my mum quite well. My mum has dementia so I suppose it is quite difficult to keep her entertained.
The building is old and really need redecorating in quite a few areas, some rooms have
been refurbished but my mum's in not one of them. Only one room for residents to sit, so sometimes can be a bit squashed and outside space is poor but overall care I think is good.

I have no complaints at all about Wallfield House. I have always found the staff very helpful and caring towards both my father and anyone who visits him there, there is always a cup of tea and a biscuit and we are greeted warmly whenever we call. I know that dad can be a bit grumpy at times but the
staff and owners go out of their way to make sure he is alright, I couldn't wish for better.

My aunt has lived in three care homes. This home is by far the best. She settled here very quickly and is happy here. The staff are always on hand to discuss any needs and concerns and know my aunt very well. Staff are very caring and respectful.
The food is good and the rooms are clean, bright and
comfortable. We have visited many homes over the last five years. I feel this is one of the better ones and I would thoroughly recommend this one.
We are very happy with my aunt's care and comforts. She is happy and has lived here for a year. She loved the visit from the local playgroup and enjoyed making poppies recently.

From the outset of her time at Wallfield House, Mum was treated with respect, dignity and care from all the members of the team. Whatever she needed was provided and any issues were resolved straight away.
Her room was comfortable and homely, with her own familiar things around her.
All the team went
the extra mile to make Mum feel at home and cherished. WONDERFUL!

My mother has been cared for at Wallfield House Residential Home for the past fifteen months. Mum has settled well to dependent living, she is content and has benefitted from the home from home approach and personal care and support given by both management and staff.
I and my family are always made
to feel welcome when visiting Mum and they keep me totally informed as to Mum's welfare, giving further confidence that she is safe and receiving exceptional care.

My mother has been a resident for two and a half years and in all her time she has been treated with respect and dignity in a friendly, caring environment.
As my mother's condition has changed the staff have gone above and beyond our expectations to meet her more challenging needs, for which her family
are extremely grateful.

My mother has resided at Wallfield House for over a year. She is so happy there. she feels safe, well cared for and no longer lonely.
Her room is spacious with several pieces of her own furniture to make it feel just like home.
The staff are caring, friendly and always have time to chat. The food
is excellent with good choices.
Activities are planned every day and the residents are stimulated and encouraged to pursue their hobbies.
There are regular medical checks, access to chiropody, optician and hairdresser and visits to and from the local community.
There is always a lovely, homely welcome.

Attentive.

Current Review Score: 7.8 (7.833)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.8 (7.833) out of 10 for Wallfield House Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.500 for Wallfield House Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (8 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.333 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wallfield House Residential Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 15 registered maximum number of service users is 3. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 3 = 0.333
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
