  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.383 for Annesley Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (48 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 81 Ratings = 4.383

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 24 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 48 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews; 3.00 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 24 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 48 months. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.588 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Annesley Lodge is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3.00 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 10.2 positive Reviews (51 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 6 Reviews ÷ 10.2 Target = 0.588

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

The only major problem I have is the high turnover in senior management, which is not very helpful in terms of the smooth running of the place. This implies no criticism of the current temporary management. More activities would be good but given the workload of the care staff, this doesn't seem to be possible.

Debbie Clayton, Regional Support Manager at Annesley Lodge responded to this review on 18 Oct 2018:

Thank you for taking the time to review Annesley Lodge and we are pleased that you are extremely likely to recommend us. We are working to ensure that a permanent manager is appointed to provide the highest level of care and leadership for our residents. An updated activity programme is currently being rolled out through our care homes estate to suit our resident’s wide range of interests.

My mother has been in this care home for over 5 years and I think it compares very favourably overall with similar care providers. Have yet to see the effect of new management and carers. My mother's room could do with upgrading especially the lighting. I am slightly disappointed in the activity provision although I see many of the residents have deteriorated through age and health. The carers show inordinate amounts of patience with some residents. Well done and thank you to you all.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on Annesley Lodge and we are pleased that you are likely to recommend our home. We have an ongoing programme of refurbishment and endeavour to provide a range of activities, in which our residents can choose to participate.

The home is always spotless as is mum's room. The care mum receives is great. The staff know and understand the relatives needs well. The acting manager has done a lot to upgrade the home and made changes which have greatly enhanced the place. The atmosphere is always welcoming and I know mum is very happy here.

Mum had been in Annesley Lodge for two years and the standard of care had always been very good. Unfortunately, when a new manager was appointed in 2017 she was uncommunicative, never spoke to mum and clearly, staff were demoralised and not motivated, but they remained very caring and professional to the residents. However, when the temporary manager was appointed recently, she has been excellent and certainly, there were significant improvements. My mother passed away on 4 May and the staff were excellent, very understanding and ensured that mum retained her dignity to the end. Indeed one member of staff sat and held her hand whilst passing.

In the last year, there has been a noticeable deterioration, mostly in terms of leadership/management in the home. This had an effect on the care staff.
The recent change in management appears to have improved things, especially staff morale. The gradings given below may not reflect the current situation. May everything continue to improve.

Jennie Whitfield, District Manager at Annesley Lodge responded to this review on 23 May 2018:

Thank you for taking the time to review Annesley Lodge, where we are pleased you are extremely likely to recommend the home. Through ongoing recruitment and training, we ensure that our staff team provides a high standard of care to our residents.

Moved my mother-in-law to this care home really quickly and wasn't sure what to expect, but was very pleasantly surprised at the high level of service compared to the the care home we had moved her from.
Lovely good size rooms with en suite, extra bathrooms and toilets in hallways, proper hairdressing salon. Activities everyday. Food was brought out so the resident could view the food before choosing what they wanted and a good choice of quality food. Family welcome to eat with the family member. Lots of snacks and drinks throughout the day. Staff are lovely and a key worker is given to each resident. Nothing seems to be to much trouble. Thank god at last.
