My Brother David has lived in a few good Care Homes in the Bolton area over a number of years. However, he has never been happier than he is since moving to Abbeyfield. The building is currently being renovated, but that is not as important as the actual care he receives from all who work at the Home.
I can honestly say that all the Care Staff, Managers, and Support workers are very pleasant, kind, professional and caring.
I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Abbeyfield Care Home. 10 out of 10.

My sister was resident here during the last months of her life, due to the pandemic I was unable to visit, but if I called to arrange a time I could speak to her and her daughters kept me updated and assured me she was being looked after fantastically.

The home is bright, clean and very well run. The staff are always ready to listen and care for clients. The building and gardens are well maintained, as are residents rooms. Kitchen and food are of good quality. Mum has been at the home for almost 5-years, and improvements have been made in all areas.
Great place for Mum to live in.

My mum has been a resident at Abafields since August 2019, and we are so happy with the tender loving care she has received continuously. Her every need is met all the times. The staff and management are the best you could ever ask for, especially in the current situation of COVID-19, ensuring all residents
and staff members are safe, well and entertained all the times. I would highly recommend this home to any families that are struggling, as we did in knowing they can no longer care for their loved one themselves. The building may not be the most modern, but it is very well suited to the age group it serves and makes them feel more at home.

Thank you, Elaine, for your comments - we appreciate any feedback. It is especially good to hear that you have felt reassured with the current Covid situation.

My grandma was admitted to Abafields following the deterioration of her health, she was only in the home for five weeks as she needed end of life care. From the minute she arrived at the home, she was treated with dignity and respect.
Her room was comfortable and the care she was provided with was
excellent, not just by the carers but cleaners and kitchen staff as well.
Staff at the home made what was a very sad time for us as a family, a lot more pleasant, both managers were always available to answer any questions and provided guidance to our family when needed.
Sadly Gran passed away on New Year’s Day. During those last few days, the staff not only cared for my Gran but also my family and we are extremely grateful to all the staff in the home for this.
I would definitely recommend this home.

My mum is very happy at Abafields. She has settled in well and is making friends. She thinks the staff are wonderful and can't fault the food.
I am very happy with the care my mum is receiving and the home is committed to helping residents socialise and to provide events and activities.

Very nice home. We looked at 4 homes in the area before we chose Abafields. It has a relaxed and family-like atmosphere. Toilets are exceptionally clean, I personally checked! This home is not very big and does not have this “institutional” chain care home feeling where the staff does not know the
residents in all fairness I can say that management and staff are warm and caring. It has a real family atmosphere and we are happy with our choice and my nannan is happy here.

I have been a number of times over the last few months to visit a family friend. All the care home staff are very friendly and always attentive to the needs of the residents.
I have also noticed the care home has been modified over the last few months with new floors, decor and new technology. I would
have no hesitation sending a relative here when the time comes.

Review from Henry M (Uncle of Resident) published on 9 April 2018 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Uncle was placed here 6 months ago and I visit him occasionally once a month since he came here as a private resident. I can say that it was a good home in general but not perfect. There has been a change of management. At first, I was worried that it would lose its standards but 3 months after the
changes happen, I can say that my concern was unfounded. The manager is caring, attentive and approachable. She simply listens. Some of the staff has also changed since then and this has been a good thing. The food and the overall care is better in my opinion. Meanwhile, on my last visit, I was surprised to see that there has been a huge new decoration activity that made care home brighter and a positively more desirable place to be. The overall atmosphere is pleasant with many smiles. Also, they got a new home pet: A pure breed puppy bulldog for residents to enjoy. His name is Ronnie. He is adorable... Thank you for the care of my uncle.

My friend stayed here for a few months and we are impressed with the new decoration that has just been completed. Everywhere looks bright, new and nice. The new manager was very accommodating and caring with high standards. Nothing was too much to ask. The food is good and the atmosphere is very positive.
If you have respite or long-term needs, I recommend at least a visit to see the place yourself.

I have been visiting a dear friend at Abafields Residential Home, for approximately a year. The home has recently had a make-over and it looks and feels much more homely than previously. I have also witnessed more activities taking place for the residents and it is a pleasure to see involvement and
interaction.
The staff have always been kind, helpful and friendly during my visits and an added bonus is the home's new beautiful puppy and two parrots which bring plenty of smiles to both the resident's families/friends and healthcare professionals that visit. There have been positive significant changes to the home which can only benefit our loved ones physical and mental health and well-being.

I had the opportunity to view and observe the staff in many instances when my friend was in respite care. Very caring staff and a highly capable manager makes this care home a good place. The staff has been there a very long time and there is no turnover. I like the fact that staff are like a big family
and caring for the residents as a team. The manager is very kind and does not miss any details. Homemade meals are quite satisfactory with fresh ingredients.

A very clean and friendly care home. The bedrooms are spacious and airy. The staff are amazing from the manager to the domestic housekeeper, nothing is too much trouble.
I am kept informed of my dad's well being. The food is all homemade and good. The carers are kind and caring, I would recommend this
home to others without hesitation.

Current Review Score: 7.9 (7.896)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.9 (7.896) out of 10 for Abafields Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.800 for Abafields Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (8 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 10 Ratings = 4.8
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.096 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abafields Residential Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.4 = 0.096
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
