Reviews

8.8 Cedar Grange has a Review Score of 8.8 (8.844)

The Review Score of 8.8 (maximum of 10) for Cedar Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Cedar Grange in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.325 for Cedar Grange is calculated as follows: ( (40 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.325

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.519 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cedar Grange is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 5.2 positive Reviews (26 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 5.2 Target = 0.769

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Very impressive care home good furnishings. Somewhere you would place your loved ones. Carers are angels unless you ask questions and concerns about their health. They do not look well. Then you are told it is not a nursing home. They have a lot of dementia residents to look after. Is that classed as nursing care? Took my husband just five months, 16thSept to 15th Feb, to die. From being reasonably fit when he was first admitted to Cedar Grange.

Sian Kennell, Office Manager/PA to Directors at Cedar Grange responded to this review on 26 Jun 2017:

Thank you for taking the time to send in your comments regarding your husband’s stay at our Cedar Grange Care Home. I am glad to hear that you found our overall standard good along with the cleanliness and the rooms.
I am very sorry to hear however that you found other aspects of the home and care received by your husband poor and I would like address these concerns for you.
Our Cedar Grange Care Home isn’t a nursing home, it is a state of the art dementia care centre which focuses on a wide range of different activities that our residents can relate to, from completing everyday tasks to cinema visits, cake decorating and ball games. All of these activities however are optional and if our residents do not wish to participate in any particular activity, then their wishes are respected. The social worker who assessed your husband before being admitted into our home, agreed that this was the best home for him and he did not require nursing care.
All of our carer’s are committed to delivering outstanding personal care to all of their residents, treating everyone with dignity and respect as they would wish to be treated themselves – the ethos of Cedar Care Group is that our residents are living in a home they feel comfortable and safe in.
Our in-house chef provides a varied menu, preparing fresh home-made meals on a daily basis and all of our residents are encouraged to eat a healthy and balanced diet, taking into account their own likes and dislikes.
I would like to apologise again for the less than satisfactory experience of the home that you have encountered. We do have an open door policy at our home, as well as holding regular resident family meetings where we encourage any issues to be raised in order that we may deal with them directly. If you would like to discuss any of your concerns in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact the home and our Registered Manager will be happy to speak with you.

The care team seem well motivated towards constant improvement. In the 16 months my mother has been at Cedar Grange I have seen big improvements in systems and procedures.
I am always warmly greeted when visiting. I've been impressed with the detailed, individual, personal care my mother has received.
My monthly meetings with the care team have been a very important communication channel and proved extremely useful in my understanding of the latest developments at the care home.

It is clear that Cedars Care Group have invested significant resources into Cedar Grange and that these resources are so accurately focused on the needs of their residents. I believe that their success is achieved by employing managers and senior staff with a huge amount of talent and experience. Having said that, it would be remiss to ignore the commitment of the rest of the team. One thing that has particularly impressed me is the caring relationship that all staff, even the cleaner or maintenance man, has with my mother, who is a resident at Cedar Grange. We never expected such a high level of care in this respect.

My mother is 89 years of age and has dementia. Cedar Grange is her home and her world. It is a place where she is not only safe, but 'feels safe'. Whilst the building is beautiful, I believe that my mother's happiness comes from the caring relationship that she enjoys with all members of staff, who 'genuinely care' and include families in their care plans.

My mum went into Cedar Grange on 3/1/2017 for a short stay as she had been in hospital for the past 6 weeks suffering with later stage dementia.
Sadly mum died on Monday the 9/1/2017 with all our family by her bedside, dad held her hand until she slipped away.
The care staff and all the girls treated mum with total respect and treated her like their own. I have emailed Cedar Grange head office to thank them and pass on my family's regards to the team. If you want that personal touch for your loved one, then Cedar Grange would be the place.

Mums room was beautiful, the staff looked after my dad as well, making a fuss of him for which he's very grateful for. Although the CQC report had a couple of points I wouldn't have any issues in referring this care home, sometimes you have to go with your gut feeling which I did and it payed off.
My family and myself want to say thank you for making mums final days special.

All the staff at Cedar Grange are very caring, always pleasant and patient. The individual care and personal kindness my mother and myself received in the last week of her life was above and beyond the home's remit.

Sadly my father recently passed away in July 2015. The care he received from Cedar Grange (formerly Hope Cottage) was marvellous. Special thanks to all the staff who were amazing especially Diane who made his final years so special. Thank you.
