I have found the staff at Eastwood House to be utterly professional in all aspects of my stepfather's care. It is good to know he is in good hands in his twilight years and gives us as a family peace of mind knowing all his needs are taken care of. We are kept informed of anything that occurs outside
of our visits. The staff really care for these people as friends and not as the "box" tick of "service user".

Since mum has been at Eastwood House, I have been impressed with the care that has been provided. All the staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful, and nothing is too much trouble for them when it comes to looking after mum. They have also made me feel very welcome when I visit on a daily basis and
this means a lot to me also. I feel content knowing that mum is here and she is receiving excellent care from a wonderful bunch of staff. Thank you, everyone!

My mum has been a resident of Eastwood for 3 years and the home is warm welcoming and caring. The staff are compassionate and dedicated to the well being of the residents. I believe with improved staffing levels this would help during busy times as staff do sometimes seem steached thin. Overall I am
pleased with the care my mum receives.

Eastwood House have been good and kind to my husband and to my auntie who was also here for three and a half years but sadly passed away last year. My husband has settled here. They look after him and attend to his needs. The staff are also very kind and caring to family of residents overall. I am very
pleased with the work they do, and the care that they give.

My uncle is well looked after by all the staff. He says food is excellent, he feels safe since moving into Eastwood House. His health and wellbeing has improved. His rise and falls has declined massively. Staff are friendly and welcoming.

This is our second review. We visited at Christmas and were so impressed that when we needed respite for a couple of weeks Eastwood House was our first choice. Everyone is so kind, caring and helpful. The home is spotlessly clean and smells fresh. All the residents are well-presented and look very happy
in their surroundings. The meals and drinks were plentiful and tasty. The staff are great and clearly enjoy their jobs, going about their duties with a smile and nothing is too much trouble. Everyone is treated with respect. If ever we need to return we wouldn’t hesitate.

Mum seems happy at the home, carers look after her well, kept clean and fed. Entertained sometimes, so can't complain at all.

My mother is quite happy in Eastwood House. The carers and other staff are lovely. Mum likes the food which is a compliment as she was an excellent cook when she lived in her own home.

I have visited Eastwood House quite a few times to visit a friend. It is a very homely place, and the staff are friendly and willing to help with anything. On one of my visits, some residents were having their nails cut and painted, which they seemed to be enjoying. The home is clean, and they have
a lovely little room where I once sat with my friend; this gave us privacy, but we could have sat anywhere we wanted. I have always been offered tea or coffee on my visits which made me feel very welcome. I would highly recommend Eastwood House.

I have a friend at Eastwood House. When I made my visit this week I found she was really happy. She showed me around her room and she is happy with her view I found the staff kind and helpful I wore PPE on my visit and the staff explained this fully on my visit. I had the chance to see other residents
watching TV and saw some in the garden. I sat and had a drink in the conservatory and it was a lovely room. Staff came to check we were ok which I thought was nice.
I found a welcoming and lovely place for my friend.

The home is dirty. It is poorly run with both seniors and management more interested in smoking than the residents. The residents spend all day just sat in the lounge with no stimulation whatsoever. Infection control is non-existent with equipment being shared without cleaning even when contaminated
with faeces. Laundry is not managed with even underwear going into the wrong rooms. Residents are making sandwiches in the conservatory, not hygienic, at 10 am which are for tea time, unappetising. The toilet is in a wardrobe! and the TV has no socket to plug in plus no ariel or remote! The food is very poor unless you like chips and is more like what you feed to children rather than elderly people. Overall the home is very poor.

Reply from Sarah Mckenzie, Deputy Manager at Eastwood House

We would like to thank you for this feedback, our team of staff work hard to provide a caring environment. All staff members do have a specified area for breaks in the grounds. Our residents have a varied activity programme; this is evidenced through various channels in the home. Our activity for food preparation is popular, we have our kitchen team who prepare fresh meals daily. Our bedrooms have an ensuite, enclosed toilet and sink. There are plug sockets in all bedrooms for use with. In this instance it may have been a spare TV which sometimes we have left by previous service users. So, we would like to offer an apology for the missing remote and aerial in this particular case. Our food menus differ from week to week and residents’ meal requests are gathered through our QA programme.

My mother has been cared for at this home for over five years. They have been looked after from day one with extreme care, compassion and patience. They were fantastic with all residents during the pandemic and kept all families informed of any changes. The staff are fantastic and really care, which
is very rare.

As a friend of a resident and not a family member, it's very difficult for me to push forward with my concerns regarding care. But, thankfully, the lovely staff have taken time to listen to me and have made plans to make his care personalised as much as possible. Thank you for listening to my worries
and concerns regarding the lack of care from the council. It has no reflection on his care at Eastwood House whatsoever. Keep up the good work and thank you for listening to me. I know you all care.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.176)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.176) out of 10 for Eastwood House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.530 for Eastwood House is calculated as follows: ( (47 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.53

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.646 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Eastwood House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.4 = 0.946

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
