Our father has now been a resident for around two years & we have always found all staff to be helpful, caring & polite.
Our mother spent her final week being cared for & we couldn't have wished for better care on her final days, both mum & the family members sat with her were looked after, the compassion
shown to the family was beyond anything we expected.
As a family we couldn't recommend Nightingale House highly enough.

Reply from Emma Steadman, Manager at Nightingale House Care Centre

Thank you so much Debbie for your lovely comments, it was a pleasure to have mum in her final days, after getting to know her so well caring for dad who is a treasured resident.

My mum has been here since Oct 2024. Mum has dementia. I have an iPad in her room and generally the internet connection is good enough for me to video call her nearly everyday and she also has a hub so I, and the staff, can put some music on for her if she is a bit agitated or just would like to listen
to some music. I go and see her every couple of weeks. The staff know me and are happy to update me on how mum has been.
Generally mum is quite happy and does get involved in some of the activities. She has a lovely view from her room and I feel as though I have made a good decision to have her looked after at The Nightingale.
Mum and others say that the food is very good. I think they make it there.
It's a bit out of the way, so not the easiest to get to, but I've never had a problem parking.

Reply from Emma Steadman, Manager at Nightingale House Care Centre

This care home is failing on every level.
I have taken several photographs that i will be submitting to LCC & the CQC.
With immediate effect this care home needs closing down, the care is bare minimum,
I have huge concerns about, resident safety, hydration, boredom, lack of mobility, lack of encouragement,
health, wellbeing...
I witnessed some caring staff, which is a shame for them as several seemed to be just showing up, donning a uniform & pretending to care.
The building itself is in dire need of a major refurb, call bells are old fashioned, with bare wires at the connections & not placed within easy reach of residents, lighting is terrible.
It seems that the basic plan is to place residents in comfy chairs turn on the TV very very loudly, put on an awful film via 'youtube' & walk away, go for your cigarette break.
There are data protection breeches with personal information being left in communal areas.
Staff shortages was quoted as an issue, this doesn't surprise me, why would

We would like to apologise sincerely for your recent experience, especially to your loved ones. We have received many positive reviews, however we understand that your feedback does not meet the required expectation for care standards. We acknowledge your openness and honesty and will take the concern on board to make improvements, involving staff, management and environmental changes to which we do have a refurbishment schedule in place. This has been taken extremely seriously by the company and will be dealt with appropriately. I do hope this reassures you that we have listened with planned support to make changes. Thank you for your time to liaise with us to make positive improvements to the service.

The staff are all kind, compassionate, caring with good knowledge and hands on skills providing excellent

My mum had such a lovely experience at Homer Lodge. All staff were caring, friendly, professional. They made my mums stay very welcoming. Physios came around regularly and a GP every week. So we knew mum was getting well looked after. A lovely lady entertained the residents every afternoon with various
activities which my mum really enjoyed. If her family lived nearer she would have stayed. I would highly recommend Homer Lodge - The managers are making an excellent job of running the home.

I can't thank everyone at the Firs enough for taking care of my Mum. She was only with them for 4 weeks before she passed away but it was evident to myself and the whole family that the entire team at this home are outstanding. I witnessed true care given to all residents, regardless of their role they
made time to stop and talk to everyone, they sat with them and helped when necessary. I appreciate that the building itself is a little less pretty on the outside then some other home's but do not judge a book by it's cover. Inside is lovely and bright, clean and spacious. Remember it's the people inside the building that make the difference to the care given not bricks and mortar. The manager and the team are absolutely amazing, and I couldn't have wanted more for Mum. My Father is already asking to move it as he was so impressed.

Overall, the care workers are good and attentive to my mother's needs. They treat her well and she seems reasonably happy. Overall, the food quality is reasonable though I feel that the last meal of the day could be more wholesome. The room itself is okay. Decent bed and chair, and other equipment.
Toilet facilities are basic and can be a little dirty at times. She gets her medication on time though I'm not sure if they check that she takes it. She gets exercises to do by some carerworkers. Bit hit and miss. Activites seem good though early days as she has only recently started engaging with the activities coordinator.
