Mum seems happy in her home. The staff are very kind and she responds to them well. She can be difficult at times, but they leave the room and returns later, and she normally agrees to her personal care taking place. She is safe in the home, and procedures in place to stop falls. Home keeps me well
informed and always encourages visits. Office staff also very helpful and always happy to answer questions regarding her fees etc. When I have had an issue last year, it was dealt with straight away, and all has been good since then.

Mum has been in the dementia unit for a few weeks now and the whole process has been straightforward with good support along the way from all staff that we have encountered. What was a difficult and emotional time for us was made easier as a result of the support provided by the staff team. Nothing
has been too much trouble, we have been actively encouraged to get in touch with any questions or concerns. Mum has settled in remarkably well in a short space of time, a huge relief for all the family. We know that she is safe there, has company and is eating well. To date, there is nothing negative to say, we have been impressed on the support provided, communications and ease of settling Mum in.

My wife was admitted to the care centre suffering from dementia. She was not the easiest of patients, as she exhibited aggresive behaviour. But the staff treated her with kindness, patience and respect and managed her behaviour in a quiet and efficient way. I have nothing but praise for the care she
received during her stay at Ashdowne and am grateful to the carers for their conduct.

I felt compelled to write this review for the exceptional care provided to my mother during her stay at Pinnex House/Ashdown Nursing Home.
The high level of professionalism and dedication I witnessed from every member of staff. From the nurses and care assistants to the kitchen staff and housekeeping,
everyone demonstrated a genuine care and respect for the residents, while maintaining a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
This compassionate approach was evident not only in the excellent care provided to my mother but also in the way staff interacted with other residents and their families. The respect and dignity afforded to all was truly commendable. I believe this positive and supportive environment significantly contributed to my mother's well-being during her stay.
Thank you again for the outstanding care provided to my mother and all the residents of Pinnex Moor House Nursing Home.

My mother underwent an operation and following a month-long stay in hospital needed further rehabilitation care before eventually returning home. She and my father have been married for 75 years and she found it extremely difficult to be parted. The staff were very welcoming to my father who spent hours
with her every day. From the moment we were offered a place at Ashdowne Care Centre we were reassured. The manageress came into the hospital to meet with the family and discuss the care needed and to chat with Mum to make sure this would be a good fit. My sister and I then met with the nursing manager. Her comment of "this is the home of the residents and I feel it a privilege to work here " really summed up the whole philosophy of the home. Each and every member of staff we encountered from there on has been, kind, caring, efficient and above all "smiley". Mum has been in for 5 weeks and is well enough to now return home. A heartfelt thank you to all!

We arrived at Ashdowne Care Centre understanding we had a short time left with Dad. It has been about just looking after Dad and caring for his needs ie his catheter and swabs for his mouth as he's not been able to drink or eat. The staff are amazing, they come every hour to tend to Dad. He is made
as comfortable as possible, the level of care is exceptional actually not only for him but for my mum, they have truly been the very best they could be for them both. I'm so grateful. They turn Dad every hour and they have had a lovely clean room with every facility necessary. I would not hesitate to have Mum here or recommend to others. We as a family are so very grateful to everyone, the staff are amazing.

The care staff at Ashdowne treated my husband with dignity and compassion. They always kept me informed of any changes in his condition and supported me through a very difficult time. Because of his dementia, he wasn't always the easiest resident to cope with but they made a great effort to meet his
needs. Thank you.

The home is good. The nursing staff was excellent and care was always very good. There were activities and events throughout her stay. The room was perfectly adequate for my mother with advanced Alzheimer's but it could do with redecorating and some more thought on furniture. Mum actually improved slightly
over the period of 2 years before her illness finally got her. Recommended. Admin was efficient and staff lovely.

At first, we were nervous about our dad being admitted to a care home after breaking his hip and a short stay in hospital. Quickly, our minds were put at ease, and he settled in instantly. The carers and senior staff were so caring and considerate, looking after him to a high standard as well as making
us feel welcome whenever we visited.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.734) out of 10 for Ashdowne Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.809 for Ashdowne Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (160 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 194 Ratings = 4.809
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashdowne Care Centre is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
