Food not appetising enough especially for one that hasn't got an appetite. A much better variety of foods available could be more appealing i.e. spices, like chillis, currys, spag bol or toasted sandwiches. Food tends to be quite bland. Also meal times need to be spread out more -
Breakfast - 7.30
- 9.30 Elvenses 11am
Lunch - 1.00 - 2.00 Mid afternoon 3-4pm
Dinner - 5.00 - 6.00 Supper/snack/drink 8pm - 9pm.
Activities not suitable for people who have their faculties so not to be treated like children but as adults.
Reply from Cliff House, Natalie Bullimore Manager at Cliff HouseThank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the food has not always been appetising, particularly for residents with a reduced appetite. Your suggestions for a wider variety of meals have been noted . The home also provides an additional menu alongside the main menu to offer residents more choice and flexibility. Meal times are suggestive times rather than fixed, and residents are able to choose when they would like to have their meals, snacks, and drinks wherever possible. We also appreciate your comments regarding activities. We agree that residents should always be treated with dignity and as adults, with activities that are meaningful and appropriate to their interests and abilities. Your feedback will be shared with the activities team and any suggestions of any additional activities would be greatly accepted . If you wish to discuss your feedback further we would be more than happy to accommodate this.

Mums transition into residential care was quite hurried as her needs changed after a fall at her home. Staff were welcoming and friendly and tried hard to make mum feel an individual by encouraging personal possessions. Initial assessment and care plans were put in place to keep mum safe. She had a
health assessment within days from the GP practice. Food is varied and offered appropriately. Staff are responsive and friendly to residents and family. We feel mum is well cared for and safe.
Reply from Cliff House, Manager at Cliff HouseThank you for your lovely feedback. We're so pleased to hear that your mum's transition into residential care, despite happening quite suddenly after her fall, was supported with warmth, kindness, and professionalism. Our team works hard to ensure every resident feels valued as an individual, and it's wonderful to know that encouraging personal belongings and creating a familiar environment helped your mum settle in. We're also glad the initial assessments, care planning, and prompt GP health review provided reassurance that her needs and safety were being carefully looked after. It means a great deal to hear that you feel your mum is well cared for, safe, and supported, and that both residents and families experience our staff as responsive and friendly. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience.

My Dad has been a resident at Oaklands for nearly 3 years now and is very settled. I cannot praise Sam and the entire team enough for the amazing care Dad receives. They treat him with respect and help him maintain his dignity even in difficult moments. They are angels. I do not live in the UK and the
fact that I can go to bed every night knowing he is looked after and cared for in this way makes the difficulty of being so far away while facing this cruel illness much less stressful. The lovely activities ladies also find time to make a video call with Dad every week so I can see him and have a little chat, which obviously makes me very happy. What more can I say, a great care home with very very special, caring staff.

My husband became a resident at the beginning of September to Oaklands. Since then, the care he has been given has exceeded all expectations. Every single member of staff has treated him with the utmost respect and dignity, maintaining a calm and caring manner. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone.
Their attention and support have made the transition to permanent so much easier. They are all amazing. Thank you, everyone.
Reply from Samantha Cheetham, Manager at Oaklands Care HomeThank you so much for the review L W, I shall pass your comments on to the staff and it is a pleasure to care for your husband.

I would like to thank all the staff in this fantastic care home for loving my sister at the end of her life making her room beautiful with lovely lights and music and making me feel welcome each time I visited.
I have been in lots of care homes over my 70 odd years and I must say the staff are first
class. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart you are all heroes.
Reply from Samantha Cheetham, Manager at Oaklands Care HomeThank you so much for your kind words Frances, myself and all the staff are deeply touched by your comments. It was a pleasure to care for C and also to welcome you into the Oaklands family. Bless you.

My Dad has been a resident since Jan 2025 and from day 1 when Sam the Manager had to sit on the back of the Ambulance and encourage Dad to trust her and get him into the home we knew that this was the perfect place for him. Following a stay in a mental health unit where we were not so happy with his
care we were so happy that Dad was moving to Oaklands.
All the staff are absolutely amazing and care for Dad so well, he is very settled and all the agitation his Dementia caused previously seems to have gone.
His personal care needs and grooming are all taken care of. His clothing is always clean and freshly laundered and he looks smart and tidy. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff if you ask them for something and they are always friendly and polite. My Dad's room is always clean and tidy with his personal photos put on the wall by the maintenance team. They send us photos and videos. Thank you Sam and team from a very grateful family.
Reply from Samantha Cheetham, Manager at Oaklands Care HomeThank you for your kind words Alison, it is an absolute pleasure to care for your dad, he is so settled and happy here. I shall share this review with all the staff team.

Excellent care has been given to my Aunty. All the carers are lovely and nothing is too much bother. The home is really clean and the staff keep them engaged, if any one of the residents need anything they are there like a flash. The atmosphere of the home is always happy and that is a big thing for
a home. A big thank you to all the staff for being so kind.

Had initial concerns regarding recent staff losses. New staff and management do appear to be very good. Hopefully new changes will appear to be positive and beneficial to residents. Bit soon to be able to comment fully.
Reply from Natalie Bullimore, Manager at Cliff HouseThank you for your review. We are hoping that once the changes within the home are complete, they will be a pleasant improvement for all.

My dad's been here since the beginning of September. It's such a lovely clean care home the staff & managers are so caring & genuinely do care for the residents. The events lady makes it a very jolly place to be. When we came to look round one staff member in particular was so nice & we got a warm feeling
when she showed us round. Even though my dad lived out of the area, we decided this was the place for him home from home.

Dad has only been a resident for 12 weeks. He has settled in quickly with the excellent support from the management and all the staff. The atmosphere in the home is great, homely, and friendly. Interaction between staff and residents is genuine and they show our Dad love and respect. They are kind,
caring, and professional. When Dad's health deteriorated and he needed medical attention the staff and management were quick to respond with emergency services and contacting family. After a few days in the hospital, Dad was back with the caring knowledgeable staff who understood Dad's health and well-being.
The activities co-ordinator is very upbeat and the residents do lots of interactive, creative, and fun activities wether you want to join in or watch.
Monthly Church services are a lovely idea and appear to be enjoyed by everyone.
The support from the local surgery medical team who visit on a regular basis is very reassuring.
Thank you to all the team for looking after our Dad and caring for him.

I find the staff very friendly. They treat Mum very well, which is the most important thing. We always feel that we are welcome to visit. The activities coordinator is excellent and tries to get residents involved in her entertainment, which is varied.
Reply from Karen Mullins, Manager at Cliff HouseThank you for your lovely review. We always think of our resident's relatives as being part of our family here at Cliff House.
