Housteads is a 40-bedroom care home set in beautiful gardens and woodland. Residents enjoy spending time outside in the garden or watching the birds and squirrels from their windows. The home is highly recommended by families, friends, and social workers, who describe it as warm, homely, and family-like. The staff create a positive, friendly atmosphere, which residents and their families really appreciate.

They welcome visitors to tour the home, meet the staff, and experience the friendly atmosphere. Residents can personalise their rooms to make them feel like home. There are no set visiting hours, so family and friends are welcome anytime. The team of staff work closely together, ensuring residents receive consistent care and build trusting relationships. The Care Plan Coordinator works with each resident and their family to create a personalised care plan tailored to their needs and preferences. They encourage independence and dignity while providing services like laundry, GP visits, hairdressing, and more.

Housteads is located near local shops, pubs, and restaurants, just 4 miles from Sheffield city centre and on a bus route. The spacious function room is used for family gatherings, celebrations, and activities like gardening, arts and crafts, and flower arranging. Residents also enjoy visits from therapy dogs, miniature ponies, and local schoolchildren through the Adopt a Care Home programme. The team organise outings, including barge trips, cinema visits, tea dances, and community events.

The lounges are sociable spaces where residents can spend time together. The kitchen team offer a variety of home-cooked meals, including favourites like meat and potato pie, fish and chips, and stew. The cooks also make special meals for those with different tastes. Snacks are available throughout the day, and they make sure everyone’s preferences are met.

My wife stayed at Housteads from the end of December 2025 until the third week in March 2026. During this time she received the highest levels of care and support from a professional and dedicted group of people, from Admin, Carers, Cleaners to Kitchen staff.
All went above and beyond normal standards
to give residents the support they deserve during their diificult times.

The same support was given to relatives of the patients, like myself. Always approachable, any time of the day and kept me informed on my wifes condition. The activities staff also provided a varied range of pastimes from seed planting to pub visits and visits of a wide range of entertainers.
When she moved to another home (in the same group), nearer my home, it felt to me like losing long time friends.
Sheffcare's slogan of' Care Not Profit' is certainly epitomised by their employees.

Reply from Amelia Charlesworth-Dakin, Marketing & HR Coordinator at HousteadsWe're truly grateful for your kind words and are so pleased to hear that your wife received such high levels of care and support during her stay at Housteads. It means a great deal to us that you felt supported as well - keeping families informed and involved is something we care deeply about.

Your recognition of our entire team, from care staff to housekeeping, kitchen, activities and admin will be shared with them all. They work incredibly hard to create a warm, supportive environment, and your feedback reassures them that their efforts are making a real difference.

We're especially glad you enjoyed the range of activities on offer - helping residents stay engaged and connected is such an important part of what we do.

Although we understand how difficult transitions can be, we're pleased your wife has been able to move closer to you, and we hope she continues to receive the same high standard of care. We wish you both all the very best.

Mum had one week of respite - the first time she has been away from home! The staff were kind to her, easy to speak to and very upbeat. I have asked if Mum could be in the residential area if she is able to visit again for respite. I hope she has the opportunity to have her respite sessions at Housteads.

My very dear friend has been in Housteads since 2013, staff and managers have changed but the care has been there 100% with my friend. My friend is known by them all who work there and is treated with respect and love all the time even though she is challenging, almost as though they are one big family
there. I can't praise them enough.

Houseteads is a lovely, well run home. They try and meet all my Mum's needs, I know it's hard at times. Mum seems really happy and I can rest knowing shes looked after. Wasn't easy to place Mum in a home and sometimes wonder if it wasn't for the care she receives where she would be now. So I thank you
all for your hard work and will continue to support my Mum's needs.

The staff that look after my mum are always lovely when I go to visit. Mum always looks clean and is well looked after and they always tell me what activities mum has been doing. Mums mobility has improved since shes been in the care home and that is down to the staff doing exercises with her. Thanks
to all the staff that care for mum its really appreciated.

Mum has been at Houseteads since 2019, can't raise the staff past and present for their care and dedication not just to Mum but every resident. Of course is was difficult through Covid but the pod visits were very welcome. I would not hesitate to recommend Housteads to anyone. Mum has dementia and is
on Bluebell.

I contacted the home to ask if there was a room available for a visit. It was my Auntie's special birthday and there would be a few more visitors than usual. They arranged for us to use the dining room. They set up the table with the flowers and cards she had received and a balloon, there were plates
and cutlery left for us to use and we were given tea and coffee. This just made it all the more special for her.
All the staff came and wished her a happy birthday, and I saw first hand how the staff treated her with love and respect and I know why she is happy living here.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (7.958)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (7.958) out of 10 for Housteads is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.833 for Housteads is calculated as follows: ( (10 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.833
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.125 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Housteads is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.125
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
