This is a second review about the care and quality of life my brother receives at this home. It took a while for him to settle in but thanks to the kindness shown to him he has a lot of smiles and banter with them. From the cleaners to the top, every body cares. Most afternoons there is something going
on, from board games to just listening to the music. Today it was Elvis, maybe tomorrow it's the sixties, some thing for every one. The staff are so friendly and happy to discuss any issues good or bad. But this week they introduced a drinks trolley for residents and family's in the lounge area. What a difference it has made, it's like visiting at home. Just to be able to say do you want a coffee, I'll make you one is like the old days, plus family's also can have one. Nothing is better than a chat with a cuppa putting the world to rights. A simple tea trolley makes so much difference to his life. What a great idea and so simple.
Thank you Cottingham Hall!!

Thank you to the manager and her team for everything you do for Mum, we are always made welcome when we visit and Mum says she feels at home and settled here. Everyone was great getting Mum settled when she moved in earlier this year, the holistic open approach to care planning is refreshing, I find
my contact with yourselves positive and it helps us know Mum is well cared for.

Mum has been in Cottingham Hall for approximately five years, despite her disability and being unable to leave her room, she always seems very happy when we visit and she always looks very clean and looked after. The staff are amazingly caring and treat her like a member of the family.

Friday 23rd September 2022 I visited my aunt as usual. She looked frail but comfy. On her table was water, sarsaparilla and milkshake. She greeted me with "drink", she likes yoghurt pouches. She had a strawberry one from her cool bag, suggested by a carer to keep drinks and fruit cool without fruit
flies in the room as these bothered staff and my aunt. She drank it straight down but was cold as the pouch was cold. I went to ask staff for a throw. In the corridor, a resident, in a comfy chair, tapped her knee to the music coming from the lounge. In the lounge, I was greeted by staff on their day off decorating the two lounges, laughter and residents giving their views on the decorating. One big family having fun as two members of staff and their husbands and two residents were renewing their wedding vows the next day. Returning with a throw, my aunt wanted to know what was going on. The pandemic had stopped mixing with others, a party was what they needed to have a reason to wake up the next day.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.820)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.820) out of 10 for Cottingham Hall is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.957 for Cottingham Hall is calculated as follows: ( (44 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 46 Ratings = 4.957
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.863 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cottingham Hall is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.2 = 0.488
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
