Since Mam has come to this home, she has done so much better, thriving. Her behaviour is very challenging, but the staff know how to handle her.
They totally spoilt her on her 90th birthday; nothing was a bother to the staff. The family really appreciates everything you's do for her. Thank you. x

The staff always ensure my grans care needs are met. Every time I visit, Gran is always clean and presentable. Care staff cannot do enough to support not only my gran but also her visiting family. We visited for her 90th birthday, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure she had the best day.
The care staff deserve a big appreciation bonus to thank them for all they do for their residents.

Pauline has multiple serious health problems and is very fragile. She is a very chatty and sociable person and when her health allows, she loves to chat with staff and this is a considerable aid to her comfort and wellbeing. The staff at the Elms Care Home actually care for Pauline and have supported
her through many times when she has been upset or very poorly. They bend over backwards to help and Pauline now has developed key friendships with many of the staff. As someone who always feels ill, her habits tend to more nocturnal, and feeling ill, she doesn't always feel hungry. The staff continually go the extra mile for Pauline and she feels secure and 'at home' there, thanks to Jenny, Chelsea and all the staff's efforts to support here. They are there for her, and this is the first time I've felt this level of support from a home, which is a huge assurance to me that if I have to leave the country with work, I know she is in very safe hands thanks to the care and dedication shown.

Dad was sent from hospital to Blossom Lodge on a D2A bed, so we hadn't chosen it and were not sure how it would be. Dad was quite frail with late-stage dementia. The staff were lovely and really good care of dad so well during the 2 1/2 weeks he was here. Every time we visited dad looked so clean and
comfortable with his favourite music on. There was always a member of staff popping in to see how we were doing and to provide some care. Sadly, dad died after 2 1/2 weeks here the we couldn't really have asked for more support for dad, mum and the whole family. Thank you.

From the initial conversation with a request for a referal for my dad in April the communication from the management has been excellent nothing seems to be to much. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff team are approachable with a good sense of humour more so towards the residents in thier care,
there is such a pleasant feeling when walking in. My dad is always well presented clean clothing, shaven and hair brushed. Food looks good and well presented. The areas are cleaned regular with some nice aromas from the cleaning products used. I have evidenced activities, positive communication between staff and residents, group resident meetings, choices, safe practices carried out and lots more positives in such a short time. I am more then happy my dad is a resident at the elms.

During this period, my mother has been cared for extremely well. She has gained weight through eating good and healthy meals. She is always kept clean and tidy. She has nothing but high praise for all the staff members. They are warm and welcoming at all times. I would be happy to become a resident

Mam's room is sparse but as she is visually impaired this is not a big deal. The staff are lovely and know Mam well.
The worst aspect is the pervasive, unpleasant smell that is ever present throughout the home.

My mother became a resident at the Elms following a respite period. She adjusted to this quite easily and was able to have a laugh and joke with the staff. Her room was clean and had a door opening out into a private garden area. A high standard of care was given to her needs at all times.
December
2024 proved to be worrying for both our family and the staff. Her breathing was a problem but I was kept informed of her condition during day or night time if needed. Two short stays in the hospital resulted in a return to the Elms where she had further care.
Her life ended peacefully during her sleep in mid January 2025. I would recommend The Elms to anyone based on my mother's and my own experience. The staff do care.

This is a second review about the care and quality of life my brother receives at this home. It took a while for him to settle in but thanks to the kindness shown to him he has a lot of smiles and banter with them. From the cleaners to the top, every body cares. Most afternoons there is something going
on, from board games to just listening to the music. Today it was Elvis, maybe tomorrow it's the sixties, some thing for every one. The staff are so friendly and happy to discuss any issues good or bad. But this week they introduced a drinks trolley for residents and family's in the lounge area. What a difference it has made, it's like visiting at home. Just to be able to say do you want a coffee, I'll make you one is like the old days, plus family's also can have one. Nothing is better than a chat with a cuppa putting the world to rights. A simple tea trolley makes so much difference to his life. What a great idea and so simple.
Thank you Cottingham Hall!!

Mum has only been a resident of The Elms for a few months due to her previous care home closing down. She has been welcomed with open arms by all the staff here (as we as relatives have also). Mum is very well cared for and is kept well entertained. The food is of a very high standard and mum said it's
the best porridge she has ever tasted. It's definitely a thumbs up for us for The Elms.

Blossom Lodge

from Ann E (Daughter of Resident) published on 9 August 2024

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Dad has lived here for last last 4 years.
Sadly his health declined a couple of weeks back and he was discharged back to Blossom Lodge for end-of-life care. The care he has recieved these last 2 weeks has been exceptional. He has been treated with dignity and respect and kept comfortable. The staff
genuinely care and more than one carer has shed a tear with me this week and been there not only for Dad but the family as a whole.
It's the small things that make a big difference. One carer gave him her own bottle of flavoured water to do his mouthcare so he could taste something nice. To say he hadn't taken anything orally for 3 weeks his mouth was moist and in great condition so clearly oral care was done regularly and properly. The lights were turned low and gentle background music played, fans provided and regular check-ins by staff created a peaceful, comfortable environment for his last days.
Thank you everyone, your kindness will forever be remembered.
