Due to his health, Dad was struggling in his independent community for older people. Particularly regarding his meds and regular eating. This was impacting on his health problems.
Carntyne was recommended to us so we approached them and asked them for help with respite care.
They are so helpful,
informed and professional. His health and strength are much improved. This is due to the care he receives particularly in regard to dispensing his meds, and regular eating.
The environment safely caters for the elderly who need assistance with living and remaining as strong as possible.
He has shown a huge improvement.
Reply from Ashley Wright, Area Manager at Carntyne Residential Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback.

I am so pleased to hear how much your Dad's health and wellbeing has improved since moving in to Carntyne. It's especially reassuring to know that the support with his medication and nutrition has made such a positive difference, as these are key areas we focus on to help our residents stay as well and as strong as possible.

Our team work hard to provide a safe, supportive, and professional environment, so it's lovely to hear that this has been your experience. I will make sure your kind words are shared with the staff, as feedback like this means a great deal to them.

Thank you again for trusting us with your Dad's care.

We needed urgent respite care for our father who was not ready to go home from many weeks in hospital. Dad has got his strength and improved mobility back. The staff have been wonderful and create a home atmosphere for their residents. We were very confident that Dad was safe and well cared for at Carntyne.

Our friend was a resident in Carntyne Rest home for 9 months until we sadly lost him in December 25. He was 91.
During his stay at Carntyne, he was looked after tirelessly by caring and attentive staff. The manager Diane & all the staff were very approachable & nothing was to much trouble.
He was
comfortable in Carntyne and always spoke well of the carers, & kitchen staff who all worked as a team.
It's a lovely location, quiet and peaceful. He had a lovely room over looking the park in Hexham.
When we visited all patients were treat with respect & we were always welcomed with open arms.
We could not of wished for better care for him.
Reply from Ashley Wright, Area Manager at Carntyne Residential Care HomeFirstly, I am so sorry for your loss, it was a privilege to look after him.

My mum was very happy in Carntyne. The staff were all exceptional,so friendly, supportive and helped mum in all ways to feel settled and content. She had a wonderful rapport with the staff and residents. The food was home cooked and the menu variable and accommodated individual likes and dislikes to
the best of their ability.I would have no hesitation in recommending Carntyne to any prospective resident and their families.

Well . . . ! Where to start . . . ? As an almost daily visitor to Carntyne Residential Care Home for the last eight months I have become quite familiar with the routine running of this, what I can only describe, as "Home from Home". The staff are fabulous; nothing is too much trouble and best of
all, their cheerful manner is infectious, allowing the residents to feel secure within a homely environment. I have visited many establishments in my lifetime and experienced mixed reactions from others who are critical of "old folks homes that smell awful and make them feel as if they don't wish to stay very long". NOT at Carntyne! (In fact, the only thing that you could possibly say is that the flavours emanating from the kitchen/dining-room are indicative of the wonderful meals provided for the residents).
Only last week I happened to come across several members of staff in Reception and I actually said that I'd be more than happy to live there when the time comes - and I meant it!
Reply from Ashley Wright, Area Manager at Carntyne Residential Care HomeThank you so much for your incredibly kind and thoughtful words. It means a great deal to all of us.

The fact that you've visited so frequently over the past eight months really does speak volumes, and we're so grateful for the time you've spent with us during your visits and for the insight that brings to your comments.

We're delighted to hear that your experience has been such a positive one. Our team works very hard to create a warm, welcoming environment that genuinely feels like a "home from home," so it's especially rewarding to know this is felt.

I will ensure that your lovely feedback about our staff is shared with the whole team! And we're so pleased the kitchen aromas have made such a positive impression too! I can also vouch for this!!

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience-it means more than you know.

With very best wishes.

My Mum was very apprehensive about residential care and it took a lot of persuasion to get her to try Carntyne. On arrival she was warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. In less than a week she was settled and was telling all the family how kind and lovely everyone at Carntyne is. The staff are
incredibly caring and attentive, there are a wide range of well organised activities and there's a great variety of home cooked food which Mum tells us is very tasty! The home also has beautiful gardens and is in a great location - right in the centre of Hexham. I can highly recommend Carntyne Care Home.

My mum spent the last years of her life at Carntyne and and received exceptional care. This included the very challenging period during COVID and the Carntyne staff became her family during lockdown. My mum was registered blind and in her latter years also suffered from dementia, but the staff dealt
with these complex needs admirably. The staff turnover is minimal which meant that the same carers looked after my mum throughout and got to know her very well. They were also quick to spot any deterioration or changes in her health and acted immediately. Carntyne itself is a lovely house with well appointed rooms, a beautiful garden and is in a great location. We were able to take our mum out in Hexham in her wheelchair to the many tea shops and restaurants and into the park across the road which she thoroughly enjoyed. The Carntyne staff were also willing to take her to mass on a Sunday at the catholic church next door.

My father spent the last year of his life here, was very content and settled and received excellent care. This was no mean feat given the Covid pandemic! The staff were so kind and caring, and did everything they could to enable me to have conversations with Dad through the window, when I was unable
to visit in person due to lockdown.
I would have no hesitation in recommending them to others and am very grateful for all they did for Dad, in challenging circumstances for everyone. Thank you so much.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.628) out of 10 for Carntyne Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.853 for Carntyne Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (111 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 129 Ratings = 4.853
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Carntyne Residential Care Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 21 registered maximum number of service users is 4.2, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
