I was welcomed for a 10 day respite stay. I was in the same room as on a previous visit so the area was familiar.
I was very well looked after. Visitors were also impressed with the care home, particularly the small scale and homely feeling.

After a minor medical concern on the first day, a district nurse was called and my wife was also phoned, and the matter was immediately resolved.

My mum has had a few stays at Haugh House. The first after a prolonged stay in hospital when we thought it would be permanent and then two subsequent respite stays. Each time, she and I found the staff to be kind, caring, considerate and good at what they do. The home has a varied program of interesting and creative activities which residents are proactively gathered for and encouraged to take part in. Maintenance is taken care of efficiently and both communal and private areas are clean and well cared for. My sons, dog, mum's friends and I were able to visit anytime and we never felt like a nuisance. The home felt safe and residents well cared for. The staff were quick to call me with any issues or concerns. It's a small home with a friendly environment and a generally positive ambience.

Mum has been a resident in this small, friendly care home tucked away beside the water of Leith for over six months now. All the staff are wonderful and take such care of mum that it puts my mind at rest. Any issues or concerns, then the staff are in touch immediately. If she wants, she can join in the activities and outings, but if she wants peace and quiet in her room, I know that they will still keep checking on her. A truly caring care home.

I am extremely happy with the care that my Mum receives at Haugh House. She is always in good spirits, well dressed and well fed. The staff are very friendly and familiar with Mum and what she likes which is great. I live far away from Edinburgh now and knowing she is looked after in such a comfortable and pleasant environment is really important for me. I am made aware of any issues and can easily contact Mum for a chat when possible.

The family are very happy with the care and support offered by the staff at Haugh House for our 92 year old mother. She has been at Haugh House for several years and she has received excellent support. As the family aren't based in Edinburgh it's so important that we know Mum is in a wonderful caring environment. We are kept fully informed of any issues and concerns and can't speak highly enough of the staff's care, attention and good humour. It's a smaller home and the turnover of staff is low which is great for Mum because she knows evryone that works there. It's a lovely home with a warm welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Haugh House provides a small, friendly and homely environment for residents. The staff are caring and attentive. They have more opportunities to get to know and understand the needs of residents and their families and are very welcoming.

My mother has benefited from the close knit community of residents and staff.

The staff are proactive in caring to meet the needs of the residents and go out of their way to provide a caring environment and provide activities for the residents e.g. armchair keep fit and signing songs along to music. I could not ask for better care!

Overall Experience

Haugh House has been great for my mum. She was really nervous about moving to a home but after an initial settling-in period, she has really started to enjoy it. It's a small home so they don't have the facilities of some of the larger ones but this is more than made up for by the individual care that they are able to provide and the ability to get to know my mum, that the smaller setting provides. The manager and one staff member provide great leadership and their dedication really shows. In addition, the location is amazing, it's great to be able to take Mum out to the shops, the farmers market or the botanical gardens.

This may be a small care home; however, the service provided is caring and respectful. There is a small team of staff, and it seems like a stable group of employees. The facilities are quite basic compared to some of the other care homes, but it suits my mother's needs as she doesn't need the extras, just compassionate care.

I spent three weeks respite in Haugh House, after having cared for my wife within our own home, after her diagnosis of Alzheimer's Dementia, for just over four years, completely on my own and throughout Covid and the Pandemic. I was very warmly welcomed by the Manager, Team Leader and staff and given total respect and privacy at all times within my very warm, well laid out and comfortable room, which overlooked the Water of Leith on the ground floor. The Cook was very pleasant, creating many really delicious meals and always served up with a warm and caring smile. The night staff were also very accommodating and caring and always available if required. I would strongly recommend Haugh House for respite, with a lovely walkway along the Water of Leith.

My husband spent two weeks in this care home. He was assisted with his shower and was treated very well with dignity and helped when needed. Visitors always treated with a friendly smile.
