Review of Haugh House from P G (Daughter of Resident) published on 5 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mum has had a few stays at Haugh House. The first after a prolonged stay in hospital when we thought it would be permanent and then two subsequent respite stays. Each time, she and I found the staff to be kind, caring, considerate and good at what they do. The home has a varied program of interesting and creative activities which residents are proactively gathered for and encouraged to take part in. Maintenance is taken care of efficiently and both communal and private areas are clean and well cared for. My sons, dog, mum's friends and I were able to visit anytime and we never felt like a nuisance. The home felt safe and residents well cared for. The staff were quick to call me with any issues or concerns. It's a small home with a friendly environment and a generally positive ambience.

Reply from Jo Dickman, Manager at Haugh House

As close friends we were concerned when a very good and close friend had to make a major life change. As her husband was very ill she fought a lot but it became obvious she could no longer live alone. We were pleased to move her into Hilton Lodge, the day after her husbands funeral - and delighted she has made the transition very well and is happy and content with no problems. Thank you for all your help in making this a positive experience for those responsible for her welfare.

Each time I visit my sister at St John's I am impressed by the happy atmosphere within the home. There are often activities going - singing today! My sister is always very smartly dressed and well turned out.
The staff are friendly and caring and there is always a tempting smell coming from the kitchen
I cannot recommend St John's highly enough.

PS my dog is always welcome too!

Mum has been a resident in this small, friendly care home tucked away beside the water of Leith for over six months now. All the staff are wonderful and take such care of mum that it puts my mind at rest. Any issues or concerns, then the staff are in touch immediately. If she wants, she can join in the activities and outings, but if she wants peace and quiet in her room, I know that they will still keep checking on her. A truly caring care home.

Review of Hilton Lodge from E J (Daughter of Resident) published on 6 July 2026 Submitted via Website

Although the surroundings of the care home are lovely, the lack of care falls short of all expectations. We complained numerous times and nothing changed. The care staff were lovey but lacked training and were run off their feet. The management were not sympathetic to our concerns and when asked what the position was in regard to an internal investigation that the Regional Director had advised they were starting, we were informed by the Manager that the Regional Director was no longer working for the company and therefore the investigation did not proceed. We were in the process of looking for an alternative home when my father passed away.

I am on a hay diet (I do not eat protein and carbohydrates at the same time), and your catering staff struggled to provide this. You have a beautiful building and very friendly staff, and overall, I enjoyed my stay.

Your pop in cafe is a great idea and much appreciated by my visitors.

Absolutely excellent care for my 95 year old father at Hilton Lodge in Haddington. Cannot praise the staff enough for their patience and kindness. The home is beautifully maintained with an exceptionally high standard of furnishings and equipment. I must also highlight the great activities agenda organised by Angela, which meant my blind father got to do his singing. Thank you to Maria, Elane and especially to all of the staff who assisted Dad with his personal care. They made his final days very comfortable.

Review of Peebles Nursing Home from Shirley S (Sister of Resident) published on 20 May 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My 80-year-old sister has later-stage Alzheimer's. She lost her husband (her main carer) in a horrible car accident. She was injured badly, too. After a period in hospital, she was moved to a local cottage hospital. It took a long time to move her to a secure care home with full-time nursing care. Her need to "escape" caused difficulties, and guardianship was required by both POA's (I am joint POA with another sister). The welcome and overall care, dining and activities provided here are outstanding, a relief!

Reply from Amy Buddin, Manager at Peebles Nursing Home

Review of Eagle Lodge from David H (Son of Resident) published on 13 May 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Eagle Lodge Care Home has proved to be a God send for my Dad. They have been a resident for over 3 years and from the moment they took up residency they have experienced nothing but top rate care and kindness. In the second half of 2025 the home went through a process of change and transition as it moved from one owner to another. During that time, and all the way through to the present, the attention, focus and priority was on the residents and their welfare. The staff work tirelessly to ensure there is a friendly atmosphere as well as to give the residents, with their wide variety of needs, dignity, time and respect.

As you can imagine this not only benefits the residents, it also benefits the family and friends who support from outside the home. Our own experience has been that the care demonstrated in the home inspire confidence and trust for my Mum and others who aren't able to visit regularly. Eagle Lodge is a wonderful place where we have found a high standards to be the norm.

My sister in law was in Hilton Lodge only for the last two months of her life. Her accommodation and care were excellent - the staff did everything possible to look after her. The local management were also excellent.

My low rating for 'management' relates to Mansfield Care Ltd, which issued an incorrect contract and failed to correct it without being reminded.

Review of Eagle Lodge from Douglas S (Son of Resident) published on 24 April 2026 Submitted via Website

I am delighted with Eagle Lodge and I know my mother is too. She was accepted by Eagle Lodge following the closure of a home where she had also been very happy. We have both been delighted with every aspect of the care at Eagle Lodge including the home itself, its setting and location. When I leave my mother at the end of a day's outing I can see she is happy to back safe at what she has come to regard as a home in every sense. I am eternally grateful to the staff and management. Thank you

My Mum has been part of Eagle Lodge for almost two years we needed a dementia place and this care home has been a god send. They cater for everyone's individual needs and they do activities on a daily basis which my Mum likes to take part in if she feels up to it. They also bring in different singers quiz masters and also therapy animals too.All the staff from domestic to carers to management are all very friendly

My mother moved to Eagle Lodge In December 2025. Since that time the communication between myself and the Care / Home Manager on matters relating to my mother's care has been excellent with emails being answered promptly and comprehensively. Leadership is visible and supportive.

The environment which residents experience is extremely pleasant and the staff are caring, friendly and approachable. There is an activities coordinator who is friendly and enthusiastic who strives to keep activities varied, despite the challenges of varying levels of capability.

The premises are kept clean and pleasant and the cleaning staff are polite and friendly to both my mother and us as a family. The dining room facilities are pleasant and extremely clean with menus on display to view.

I would recommend Eagle Lodge to anyone with a loved one who needs to be kept safe and sound.

On visiting Hilton Lodge Care Home in Haddington for the first time, I was indeed impressed. The home is clean, and staff are pleasant. They always make you feel welcome, and nothing is too much trouble. My friend appears to be very well taken care of, as are all the other residents. Also, I am impressed with the entertainment on offer and enjoy seeing my friend participate when she can.

Keep up the good work, everyone.

8 months since my dad had a severe stroke, upon reviewing care homes we were blown away by the Hilton Lodge in Haddington. Since dad arriving who is in a wheelchair bound and non verbal. He was welcomed into the care home like a family member. As he is non verbal he is very well cared for with all the team able to communicate with him and include him in activities. From the staff, cleanliness + food everything is excellent. We would highly recommend to all our family + friends.
