Each time I visit my sister at St John's I am impressed by the happy atmosphere within the home. There are often activities going - singing today! My sister is always very smartly dressed and well turned out.
The staff are friendly and caring and there is always a tempting smell coming from the kitchen
I cannot recommend St John's highly enough.

PS my dog is always welcome too!

Review of Peebles Nursing Home from Shirley S (Sister of Resident) published on 20 May 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My 80-year-old sister has later-stage Alzheimer's. She lost her husband (her main carer) in a horrible car accident. She was injured badly, too. After a period in hospital, she was moved to a local cottage hospital. It took a long time to move her to a secure care home with full-time nursing care. Her need to "escape" caused difficulties, and guardianship was required by both POA's (I am joint POA with another sister). The welcome and overall care, dining and activities provided here are outstanding, a relief!

It was my mothers 80th birthday + the activities coordinator in the home + all staff were just amazing in how they organised everything, from balloons to other beautiful decorations, caterers + the space to welcome all our family and friends for this important celebration. It made the event so special, every detail was taken care of + it all went seamlessly + smoothly. All the guests commented on the food, the lovely space + how special it was.

Overall, exceptionally happy and satisfied with initial move in of Dad and the support provided by Suzi and nurses. Would be nice to have a notice board showing all staff/photo/position, etc. Together with who's on duty. This would help residents and visitors to build stronger relationships and get to know the team. All in all, great place with a great team.

Review of St John's from A c (Cousin of Resident) published on 18 September 2025 Submitted via Website

I visited my cousin today and was really impressed with the sitting room, it looks so stylish and welcoming. The new Managment have done a fantastic job and is very approachable, the new staff are a breath of fresh air, bringing energy and warmth back into the home where it was previously missing. During my visit the occupants were happily playing a word game with the staff which was lovely to see

Review of Peebles Nursing Home from Margaret S (Wife of Resident) published on 15 August 2025 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My husband has only been resident for 10 days so this is not a long-term considered view. 1st impressions. Staff very understanding, requests etc dealt with reasonably promptly. As a relative, I felt welcome and questions were answered. Nursing care excellent and a welcoming, almost happy atmosphere. One concern I have is that residents with a degree of intellectual capacity could be given more stimulation.

Review of Galahill House from Maureen C (Friend of Resident) published on 10 June 2025 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
I often visit my friend in Galahill, the home Manager and staff are all very welcoming and approachable. They always make time to have a chat and offer of a coffee.
My friend always appears happy and well presented.
At times there are activities in the sitting area all the residents seem to be enjoying themselves.
I have used the facilities and they always appear to be well maintained. Also visited my friend in their room which is clean, bright and welcoming. It's nice to see personal touches around the room.

The staff are always happy to help with anything and seem to be happy within their job.

I have been a resident at Millfield for approx 2 years. During this time I have noticed a deterioration in most of the residents during my stay here. I have noticed the staff cope with this very well. If I at any time have any worries concerns or requests they management are always there to help and support me.

My mother was transferred to Galahill House in 2022 after suffering a stroke. She has been well looked after and treated with kindness and respect. The care home staff promptly report any change in her condition. He room is a bit "tired" and could benefit from new blinds and curtains.

Overall Experience

My Mother has been a resident at Galahill House for almost a year now. When she moved in she was a scared and helpless woman who suffered dreadful dreadful tension headaches brought on by anxiety. Since then she has come back to life again - she feels safe and confident and the headaches have completely disappeared. I attribute this to the excellent care staff who treat her as an individual they are clearly fond of and teat with dignity and respect at all times. They put their sound values into action and maintain high standards which is not always easy ( I speak as a former Care Home Manager myself ). They are very good at helping her make informed choices in a way that is meaningful and pitched at an appropriate level for her. My Mum is thriving now and, having seen the way other residents with more advanced dementia are cared for, I feel great comfort in knowing that she will always receive superb care as her needs change. I would confidently recommend Galahill House to anyone.

Overall good. Food could be improved given the fees that are charged.

Activities seem to be irregular. I don't think there is an activity-focused member of staff at present. Certainly nothing taking place at the moment.

I find Millfield House to be a very lovely and safe place for my mother to stay. She has been at Millfield since 2021 and in this time I have found all the staff to be wonderful, caring, kind, patient and very hard working.
All taking excellent care of my mum.

My dad has been in Millfield for a number of years. The care he receives from the staff is first class. The meals are lovely. His room is really nice with a beautiful wet room to care for Dad's needs when showering. The staff treat all the residents like they are family and are always there to chat and make you feel very welcome with a cup of tea/coffee and lovely homemade cake.

Review of Millfield House from Andrea W (Daughter of Resident) published on 21 June 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My father has been in Millfield House for nearly a year. He has Parkinson's and Lewibody dementia. When he arrived he was painfully thin and extremely confused. In the past year with the care and devotion of the staff he has gained nearly two stone in weight and is eating much better. He socialises with the residents and staff and has greatly improved.
The manager and the staff regularly update me, as I live in London and I get sent lovely photos of his time and days out.
I am extremely happy with all aspects of care and devotion shown not to just my father but also to his wife.
The manager goes above and beyond, as do all of the support staff.
Millfield is clean and a great environment for someone with dementia and I feel that without the care and support, he would be in a terrible way.

Thank you Millfield family for everything that you all do.

Carers are so good with my Mum and really look after her. Cannot fault the care and attention she gets at all. They really take their time and effort with her and deal with her type of dementia in a very sympathetic way.

Review of St John's from K D (Friend of Resident) published on 22 May 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

I visited St John’s care home to visit an old family friend and was incredibly surprised at how lovely the home is, the gardens are incredible and the perfect place to have visits with loved ones on sunny days, the staff were polite and happy and I could tell this had a knock-on effect to the residents living and thriving within the home each person took time out of there incredibly busy day to say hello make sure we were comfortable and that my friend had everything they needed from a cold drink to suncream and a sun hat. My friend couldn’t be happier in the home and sang the praises of each member of staff. The home itself is beautiful in a lovely location, one thing that surprised me is how nice the home smelled it didn’t have the typical clinical smell that care homes usually have but instead smelled fresh and clean. My friend told me how much they enjoyed being there and participating in everything the home had to offer. Lovely place, with residents and staff.
