Staff are all very much approachable and helpful. Staff always welcoming and many offers of a cuppa and treats baked mostly I believe by the kitchen cook. Invitations to events. Pinevilla is very well looked after in the sense of how clean it is kept. Could do with a few new pieces of furniture in the dining room area. Lovely well-kept small garden. Where weather permitting residents and relatives and visitors can have a lovely relaxing time with loved ones. Good few events held out with the care home for residents who are able to attend these times out. Plus weekly indoor activities. Would like to see good ramp at main door for easier access in and out for residents in wheelchairs or special orthopaedic chairs. Residents have meetings for those able and willing to take part and have a voice. 6 monthly review meetings held by charge staff or Manager for I believe all residents which relatives attend. So keep up the excellent hard work you all do on a daily basis. Much appreciated.

Pinevilla is a home-from-home. The staff are amazing and always make me feel welcome when I visit my friend. The care is exceptional and my friend is very happy living there, she says it's her home and she loves the staff who treat her with respect and dignity.

My dad moved to Pinevilla his forever care home in February. I would like to reassure anyone having to make the decision to use a care home that Pinevilla is a positive experience for both my dad and myself. The peace of mind Pinevilla brings helps me greatly with the guilt of having to ask for help from outside the family. He is happy, content and settled with all his needs being met by the brilliant staff who work here. Thank you Pinevilla.

My father has been cared for at Pinevilla for the past 20 months. He is 87 years old with vascular dementia. I am so pleased that we chose Pinevilla as it has made an amazing difference to our care home experience, which can be daunting. It is relatively small and feels more like a shared house than an institution. My dad has a comfortable room and access to friendly and welcoming communal areas. I cannot praise the staff enough for their professional and caring approach and their seemingly limitless patience and humour. I live abroad and so I appreciate the communication that I receive and the warm welcome when I am able to visit. The peace of mind that comes with knowing that he is receiving such good care is invaluable.

It’s extremely important that residents are happy and feel valued by the team in the home.
Since Mum first arrived in the home she has been completely at ease, enjoying the company and the care offered by the whole team.

When considering a care home, Mum's Doctor said if there is a space in Pinevilla take it as it’s the best in Midlothian. His opinion has proved to be absolutely correct.

Pinevilla may be considered by some as small, but it fits my mum's needs perfectly. There is a genuine family feel about the “Villa” as our family calls it. No one wants their parent to be in a care home but knowing that mum is well cared for and looked after by the staff here makes it slightly easier to cope with. The staff are proper carers who know the residents and take the time to build relationships with them and get to know their needs, and what they like and may not like so much. I know my mum is in safe hands at the Villa. In my experience so far, the Manager and the staff are friendly and approachable and make a real effort to make you feel welcome.

Overall Experience
Our mother moved into Pinevilla Nursing Home 3 years ago now. Over this time we have been happy with her care and the setting. Being a small residential unit it is homely and care feels very personalised and tailored to Mum’s needs. The staff are kind and caring and Mum enjoys their company and chat whilst they attend to her needs. Mum enjoys the numerous activities that take place throughout the week, the special event celebrations and outings when they occur. The staff and management are available to both mum and family to discuss and address any concerns if they arise. We always feel welcomed when we visit.

It would be lovely if her room was bigger but her equipment needs are great and takes up a lot of space.

Margaret – Pinevilla

Margaret has dedicated over 40 years to the Health and Social Care sector. She completed her nurse training at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 1983, gaining experience across medical and surgical wards within the hospital. In 1995, she transitioned to the private healthcare sector, where she has remained ever since, continuing to develop her expertise in care.

Margaret has been a valued member of Mansfield Care for over 14 years, working in various roles across our sister homes before taking on the role of Home Manager at Pinevilla in September 2022. She also holds a Registered Manager’s Award, further demonstrating her commitment to excellence in care management.

A highlight of Margaret’s career has always been achieving strong grades with the Care Inspectorate, reflecting the high standards of care she and her team provide. She takes great pride in working alongside her staff, fostering a team approach to ensure residents receive the best possible care. For Margaret, one of the most rewarding aspects of her role is getting to know the residents and hearing their incredible life stories. Their experiences and wisdom make every day in care both meaningful and fulfilling.

Outside of work, Margaret’s greatest achievement is being a proud mother to her son, Adam. She also has a passion for adventure and, for her 40th birthday, fulfilled a lifelong dream by trekking in the foothills of the Himalayas—an experience made even more special as she raised over £3,000 for charity in the process.

In her free time, Margaret enjoys walking, reading, and baking—hobbies that help her unwind and recharge.

When it comes to helping someone find the right care home, Margaret’s advice is simple: “Always check the grades on the Care Inspectorate website. And trust your gut instinct—you’ll know within minutes of entering a home if it’s the right one for your loved one.”
