Overall Experience

My father went into Balloo House at the beginning of February 2026. I had visited Balloo House on a number of occasions prior to my father going into the care home and was always met with professional courtesy by whomever answered the door or was on duty. The whole team at Balloo House were exceptional in their care towards my father and very welcoming and helpful to me on all occasions and answers my myriad questions promptly and helpfully with a focus on assisting and solving any queries. In particular Leah and her direct team who worked with the residents, were all outstanding. They helped my father settle in as he tried to navigate his new surroundings and accommodated his needs and answered and delivered on his requests. The standard of cleanliness in the home itself was at the highest of standards. I could not recommend Balloo House and all of the team there highly enough - they all were exemplars of kindness, helpfulness, professionalism and thoughtful intervention - excellent.

Due to a bowel problem, my mother was taken by me to the Ulster Hospital on Thursday 11th Dec, and following tests was admitted for observation and a course of laxatives. She was due out on the 15th but the owner of the care home requested an assessment of my mother. The owner turned up at the hospital to inform my mother that she would not be allowed to return to the care home.
This was an arbitrary decision made solely by the care home owner and not based on a medial assessment by any of the hospital staff. The staff on the ward were shocked at this turn of events.
For a lady, six days short of her 91st birthday and in the run up to Christmas to be told she needed to find a new home was very distressing. She is now reliant on the hospital to accommodate her until a suitable nursing home is found. She also has to be assessed by social care, before she can be placed in a nursing home.

Balloo House management has behaved appallingly with a total disregard for the distress caused.

We are sorry to hear this situation has been distressing for your mother and family. As a Residential Care Home regulated by the RQIA we must ensure that every resident's needs can be safely met within our category of care.

Our priority is always the safety, wellbeing and appropriate placement of every individual in our care.

Was very fortunately to get my parents into Balloo House at the same time. Mum is EMI and Dad has major health issues, although still lightly mobile.
What a blessing to find Balloo House with nice surroundings and facilities, very caring and professional staff, and a very helpful manager.

I have no qualms and feel that my parents are in an excellent facility, especially as I do not live locally.
