My father is currently in Barrington Lodge and really they have been wonderful with him. I don't write reviews often but really wanted to say this. They're really kind and his particular carer is just such a kind person. Really recommend.

Although my sister was only at the home for a short time for palliative care, I found them to be caring, considerate and also efficient. I would've been quite happy for her to remain there longer had that been the case.

My mother moved into Barrington Lodge Nursing Home in February 2024 and our experience with the home and staff has been fantastic. We could not have asked for better with my mother settling very well and becoming very comfortable with the staff.

My dad has been at Barrington Lodge for two weeks now. The staff are really hard working and friendly, I'm really glad my dad is at Barrington Lodge, he is a lot happier and a lot more settled than at his last home.

I'm not sure where to start but my father was admitted for end of life care in early August after a stay in a hospice. I myself work in a care home so I tried not to judge too much on first impressions but unfortunately upon my first visit my father was in an extremely small room with peeling wallpaper,
a bed that did not work, a room door with a broken handle and nail clippings and hair on the floor from a previous resident and a soiled pad in the drawers. I can only say that had I been able to view the home I absolutely would have not allowed my father to be admitted to Barrington Lodge. My father changed rooms three times and all of those rooms had issues, falls my father had were not reported to me.
I could say much more but recalling how my father ended his life there, it is too upsetting. The manager is semi part-time and never there.
I am dumbfounded by the CQC Good rating as Barrington Lodge 100 per cent has many serious issues.
Reply from Manager, Manager at Barrington Lodge Nursing Home

Maintenance staff was off sick due to COVID-19 and was unable to complete all refurbishing work. However, the placement team were informed about the nature of the room and due to the urgency to move the client out of the hospice admission was agreed. Once another room became available the client was moved. If the family were unhappy with the choice of placement, they had the option to move the client into another care home. However, they created an unpleasant atmosphere for our staff on each visit. On one occasion, CJ made an unacceptable comment stating that our employees are all foreign and can’t speak proper English. As an employer, we have an equal opportunity policy and this was communicated to the family and was followed by an apology by C.J. The client's family chooses to visit outside my office hour which are after 6pm and weekends.

Barrington Lodge informed us they had two centres with many rooms available and specialised in end of life care. On arrival, my father was placed in a tiny room. The manager assured the family our father would be moved within two weeks as residents can be moved around to accommodate. Almost three months
later our father is still resident in a box room with a broken hospital bed, a door that can only stay open with a chair obstructing, a bell that is rarely in reach of our father and doesn't register to his room, and a small table that is lopsided, causing spillages and is rarely in our fathers reach. There are no facilities for my father, we have placed a TV in his room but it is only turned on when we visit and the controls are never in his reach when we arrive. The room and floor are always sticky. Staff are unaware of our father's needs and do not assist with his food or drink. There are many other issues management does not address. The overall standard in our case is extremely poor but maybe not yours.
Reply from Melvin Pavaday, Deputy Manager at Barrington Lodge Nursing Home

I am extremely disheartened that you felt the need to write this review. This review is not a direct representation of how we conduct ourselves at Barrington Lodge. As you are aware the issues all stemmed from the council placing your father at Barrington Lodge in the only room available at the time. This was clearly dictated to the council prior to placement much to your dissatisfaction. We tried our hardest to be as accommodating as possible, offering a potential room switch if one became available (which it never did). On numerous occasions, I asked you if you were having any issues, to which you only replied about the current room size. There was no mention of care standards. It is quite upsetting that this review was written when we have an open-door management policy here at Barrington Lodge, any issues that do arise are dealt with by myself or our Registered Manager. I wish you all the best.

Some members of staff are always approachable, others aren't. If a problem, once mentioned to manager, problem dealt with immediately. Laundry to be desired. Clothes muddled and whites end up pink or grey.

I am extremely satisfied with my aunt's health and well-being. It gives me peace of mind knowing she is well cared for.
It is important for me at this time as I am dealing with another elderly aunt and juggling both is a challenge if I wasn't assured my aunt is well catered for here.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.830)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.830) out of 10 for Barrington Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Barrington Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (47 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.83 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barrington Lodge Nursing Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.8 = 0.455
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
