Being a small, private nursing home the structure of the care service provided means that residents are taken care of by staff working at different levels, being a care team, a medical team & management, who are in close contact with community service medical teams. New and stimulating events are continually organised by the events/admin team to stimulate, challenge & involved residents in new events such as sound therapy, a visitly a farm etc; some of which can only be described as spectacular.

Reply from Cindy Fok, Manager at Milverton Nursing Home

Thank you Susan for a lovely review. Our care is looked at as holistic and person centre bringing activities that not only assist with well being but activities that all residents can reminisce about that has been part of their lives for so many years. Thank you for being such a great support to Milverton. Many thanks Cindy

I had such a lovely day at Milverton last week. They'd organised a local farm to bring animals for the residents to pet. It was so special seeing my mum, who has advanced dementia, face light up as she cuddled the most beautiful bunny and stroked a pony. It really was a touching experience, one I will remember forever. Thank you so much for organising so many lovely events for the residents.

Reply from Cindy Fok, Manager at Milverton Nursing Home

Dear Nicky, I am so glad you were able to enjoy the lovely day here at Milverton and mom sure was in her element enjoying all the animals. Too many more special moments.

Whilst looking for a Nursing Home we visited Milverton without an appointment and were welcomed in - this was our first good experience and says a lot! It's early days but Dad is settling in well. He enjoys the activities, the beautiful garden and the food! The continuity of care is very good with the same staff members who display reassuring and respectful care. Everyone is very friendly and visiting is encouraged.

As a family we have been supported, kept up to date and involved with Dad's care. They are helping us with our new family dynamic.

My Dad spent his final few weeks at Milverton. During that time he was extremely well cared for by staff who were attentive, warm and caring. As a regular visitor I was always made to feel welcome and was given detailed updates on Dad's progress. The food is homemade and I thought it was delicious - I've now seen quite a few care homes and Milverton really stands out for its catering. The building is bright and airy, with a lovely garden, with a spacious garden room.

My wife has been a resident for nearly two years to date. In all that time, I have been impressed by the constant care shown to her and to the friendly attitude shown to myself. I certainly made the right choice when I selected Milverton. The bonus is that it is only two miles from home! Tea or coffee as soon as you enter.

I have been visiting a friend in this care home for a few years now. I am amazed at how bright and clean it is. The staff are very kind to the residents and the visitors. It has a very happy feel due to the caring staff. I visit quite a few homes as I have friends in them but Milverton is the best.

Review from A M (Son of Resident) published on 19 April 2024 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

The nursing and caring staff are all courteous and welcoming. Food portions and quality are satisfactory but indistinguishable from one meal to another I am told. Fruit is hard to come by. Regular exercise should be encouraged but staff say they do not always have time. I have observed idle staff on their phones on some of my visits. Exercise should include outdoor exposure on dry and mild days but residents can be forced to remain indoors despite residents requesting fresh air. Some residents are unable to watch TV due to their seating arrangements.

Reply from Cindy Fok, Manager at Milverton Nursing Home

Dear A M, thank you for your response which we have taken on board. The chefs prepare a fresh homely cooked meal on a daily basis with a great variety of seasonal vegetables and meat options. There is always two choices at meal times and a variety of options for dinner which always includes fruit....

My mother has been at Milverton for almost three years. She has always been looked after with the greatest respect and dignity. The staff turnover is incredibly low, which is a testament to a happy working environment. We are delighted we found this nursing home.

Overall Experience
My father died last week after spending 16 months in Milverton. We had not chosen the home; he was sent there from hospital on a Discharge to Assess basis and we agreed that he should stay on. However, we look back on his time in Milverton as a real provision for his needs at this stage of his life. He was 94.
During the time that he was there, we were impressed with every aspect of the home. The carers were consistently kind and thoughtful in their interactions with the residents. The nursing staff were compassionate and always on the ball. The food needs of my father, who had an impaired swallow were well provided for. The facilities are good. The garden is lovely. The events officer did a superb job, not only in providing general activities for the whole home but also individually, eg finding books that were suitable for my father.

We noticed that the Milverton slogan is ‘Care with Dignity’. This is a home which practices what it preaches. We would wholeheartedly recommend it.

The staff do a good job under difficult conditions owing to the nature of the work. Some are excellent, others are good. It would be helpful if staff could take time to say a few chats to the residents on top of the times when they communicate for a specific purpose.
