Purley View is a 35-bed nursing home located in the heart of Purley. Having been in the care sector since 1986, Purley View Nursing Home thrives on quality, passion and clinical excellence, hence it has been able to secure its public reputation and good name for over three decades. Purley View’s main strength is its wonderful staff team. The staff find caring a rewarding career. They are equipped with the relevant knowledge, skill set, competencies, kindness, and compassion to provide the best care for residents.

They work with residents, their families and friends to develop a person-centred, individualised care plan according to their specific needs. They support each individual to achieve their maximum potential and help them live as fulfilling a life as they can, irrespective of their prevailing health conditions and other limitations. They also aim to provide a stimulating and engaging environment where residents feel safe and secure.

The weekly planned activity program has been designed with residents’ input and preferences and is delivered by a devoted activity coordinator and staff team. They also have WiFi-enabled tablets for residents that can be used to keep in touch with their social contacts. The visiting services include hairdressing, faith specific religious services, Reflexology, Seated dancing and Reminiscence. In addition, a variety of in-house activities take place every day and visits to local points of interest, including places such as Brighton Beach, local parks, garden centres and farms are arranged weather permitting.

The menus have been carefully selected and designed by the long-serving chef. In 2019, the chef became one of the three finalists in the ‘Above and Beyond Special Award’ and ‘Chef of the Year Award’ in care home catering. They cater for any special dietary requirements of residents as well as for any cultural needs.

My husband was taken into Purley View in September 2017. He was initially due to go to a residential home for respite but unfortunately, due to developing grade 3 bed stores at home, he needed a nursing home. To date, he has not been well enough to come home again. However, we have not regretted the
choice of home for one moment. The decor isn't plush however the cleanliness and particularly the care is fantastic. Family/friends visit daily and are always made to feel welcome and informed of his current condition. On a couple of occasions when I have felt he might need to see the doctor they have always been ahead of me and have his name on their list. The staff are warm and friendly. They create a lovely atmosphere and myself, family and friends wouldn't hesitate in recommending the home.

My Father was a resident of Purley View Nursing Home. I always found the staff to be very helpful and treat him with respect & dignity. They were patient and very kind as he could be difficult at times.
I would have no hesitation on recommending Purley View to anyone.
When he passed even some of
the nurses came to the funeral.
Thank you Purley View.

Always welcomed, my friend is sometimes in bed or sometimes downstairs. Where ever she is the staff are always interested in her.
My friend has to be fed by the staff who are kind and do not hurry the feeding.
I am always offered a cup of tea and informed of any changes in the friend's health during
the review meetings etc...

A high level of care provided by vigilant staff who are caring and well trained.
The staff always do their best for the residents but sometimes struggle with peak demands and staff shortages coinciding.
They are always mindful to include family and welcome friends and family support.
One practical
drawback is the physical location - so outside space is limited.
A high level of activity and participation is encouraged.
A general impression of service gleaned by observations (and comparisons made over a period of six and a half years approximately).

I could not wish for Mum to be cared for in a better place. The home is spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and tastefully furnished. There are numerous pictures on the walls and two TV's in the lounge to cater for everyone. Activities take place weekly and there are themed days, e.g. Mother's/St
Patrick's Day.
The staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble for them and they contact me immediately if they are concerned.
Chef does an excellent job and all residents are kept clean and tidy. All care homes should be like this.

I look forward to my breakfast every morning. I appreciate that I am offered an alternative menu if I don't care for the food on offer. Anyone fortunate enough to reside in this nursing home will have confidence that the best care is available to help with any problems that might arise, will get a sympathetic
hearing in this caring community with excellent staff ready to help.

The staff there are really kind to my mother, ourselves and the family. At the previous home she was in - she was always on antibiotics for infections and considering she's been here 18 months, this is the first time she has ever been on antibiotics and this was for a mild chest infection. Everything
from the care and a medical point of view is excellent.

The home is always clean and smell free.
The staff try hard to engage the interest of residents.
I have never seen any member of staff treat any residents unkindly.
Visitors are made to feel welcome. It is a pity there is not space for residents to sit outside when they wish.

As you may note, I have ticked all the extremely likely boxes below and that is honestly and truly how I have experienced my stay in this care home.
Also, I have only gratitude and praise for the staff who work so hard on my behalf.

The home is always clean and bright. The staff are cheerful and friendly. We put mum into this home when it became necessary for her to have more care because our father had lived here at the end of his life and we found the care excellent.
The residents are very well looked after and treated with
respect and affection.

From the first day of my husband's admission I his wife felt secure in the knowledge that he would be well looked after. The staff greeted us with warmth and understanding. He is not the easiest of people but is treated with care. His clothes are kept clean he is regularly bathed, hair cut and shaved
etc. No faults at all. The only thing I wish was a brighter room and toilet as its very dull and grey. Food and drink are served with a smile and they make sure everyone is fed.

I feel that Purley View Nursing Home provides my wife with a very pleasant environment to live in. The home is clean, food is excellent and the staff are very helpful and kind. When you enter the nursing home and one of the first things that I noticed was there was no smell, it was like walking into
your own home. Nice, clean and tidy.
This has not changed since my wife arrived in December 2009.

Purley View, in my opinion, is very well organised with dealing with patient care.
Staff always make you feel welcome as a visitor, only one complaint, the windows need cleaning as the rooms are always clean.

I have several years experience of care homes in the Croydon area and Purley View Nursing Home is, without a doubt, the best. My father spent the last year of his life at Purley View Nursing Home and my mother is currently being cared for there. The staff are very friendly, helpful, and caring. It is
always a pleasure to visit my mother in Purley View Nursing Home because of the friendly and happy atmosphere.

My friend moved into Purley view in March 2011. We could not have chosen a better place. The staff were kind and friendly, always with a smile and acknowledging my friend when the passed her chair. The chef especially deserves special praise, having been cooking at the home for 26 years producing tasty,
delicious food. Thank you. Never did I smell "urine" as so often is the case in care homes. I would recommend Purley View to anyone looking for a care home.

Purley View Nursing Home is an excellent home that provides care and treatment for all its residents. All members of staff are caring, compassionate at all times. All members of staff appear happy in their work. The nursing home is clean in all areas. Residents who are not able to feed themselves are
assisted by nursing staff at all meal times. I have been visiting weekly for the past six years. Staff are always pleasant and helpful. I thoroughly recommend this nursing home.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.058)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.058) out of 10 for Purley View Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.170 for Purley View Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (19 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.17
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.888 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Purley View Nursing Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.8 = 0.513
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
