Allenbrook Nursing & Residential Care is Fordingbridge's longest established care home, providing nursing and residential care since 1989.

A period property set in six acres of grounds, the home combines comfortable surroundings with excellent care delivered by a friendly and experienced team of registered nurses and care with a good understanding of the needs of older people.

Although Allenbrook provides mainly long-term care and the home is often able to offer shorter respite stays (subject to availability) and also provides palliative care, working closely with the nearby Salisbury Hospice.

We have always found Allenbrook Care Home to be excellent in the care they provide for their residents. The staff are friendly and kind and provide a stimulating and fun atmosphere and cater for individual requirements.
Our experience of Allenbrook is through a friend being a resident there over the
last two years and a parent who was a resident for three happy years twelve years ago. Both experiences were extremely good.

My 104 year old mother has been a resident at Allenbrook since 2019! She loves Allenbrook and enjoys a joke with the amazing staff! Such a relief for the family to know she is happy.

Generally mum seems quite happy at Allenbrook. Her mobility is limited but more walking exercise would help but understand this takes up time. Staffing levels at weekends has been limited in recent weeks. When the weather is nice it is great to sit outside. Last year there was some large sun parasoles
but as of yet have not been available.
On the whole we are pleased with everything, espeically with the warm welcome received by all staff. The staff deserve credit for their entertainment work.

Great communication. Dad is monitored well and seems very happy. Nice surroundings. Very homely. Caring staff. Activities seem fun, and he enjoys the food. Cost is always an issue, but that's care for you.

My mother spent the last eight months of her life in Allenbrook and I was blown away by the care she received. Despite not really wanting to remain in this world, my Mum developed great relationships with all the staff who were so kind and caring right up until her last breaths. The whole staff team
felt like one big, happy family. Her room was delightful, the food was good (we even got to eat it sometimes when visiting) and the admin team were superb at keeping in touch with me and my siblings whenever there was a problem. Several of the staff even attended my mother's funeral which was very heartwarming. We couldn't have asked for more from a nursing home.

My parents went to Allenbrook Nursing Home for a respite period. My father deteriorated during his stay and died there. He was receiving palliative care before he moved in and was already unwell prior to his arrival. My parents were resistant the move and found leaving their home traumatic. My father
fell during the night within the first 24 hours of his stay. He had dementia and his mobility was poor which he did not understand. We were all upset by this fall. I appreciate that without a 1:1 24 hour 'watch', it was almost impossible to prevent this, however, we felt that with more night staff on duty, this possibly could have been prevented. The staff nurse rang me the next day and gave a full explanation and apology. Apart from this incident, we found the nurses, the carers, the domestic cleaners, the reception staff and the managers extremely kind, caring, skilled, experienced, warm and helpful and so supportive. His end of life care was exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much.

My parents recently spent over three weeks at Allenbrook Nursing Home and my father died there. As my parent's rooms were tucked away and because the care and nursing staff were limited in number, response times to their call bells were rather slow (sometimes over half an hour). However, the staff were
without fail, kind, caring and respectful. In the last days of my father’s life the nursing care was tender and attentive.
The food was as good as it could be, given it was mass catering and the home-made cakes were very good.
The building and gardens were a little tired looking and the layout of the day room made it like a waiting room, but on the whole it was a good experience and the kind staff give the home a warm, homely feel.

My mother went into Allenbrook in April last year, prior to going in she was extremely resistant to giving up her independent living, but the level of help and support and reassurance given to her was way beyond anything we expected in the end the transition went really well, the place is beautiful,
the staff are so caring the rooms are lovely and the community-based activities made her settle in from day one, we made daily checks on her and nothing was too much trouble in keeping us up to date on how it was going, we visited daily for the first few days and bearing in mind this was still very much in COVID times every effort was made to accommodate both her and our needs. The whole thing was a pleasure and I can only convey my heartfelt thanks.

After battling through the minefield of searching for a suitable nursing home for my husband, who has dementia and is unable to walk I hit the jackpot when I found Allenbrook Nursing home.
This is no purpose-built block but a lovely period house set on beautiful grounds.
The care my husband receives
is second to none, the entire care team are friendly, welcoming and professional, which is reflected in my husbands happy and content little world. I am kept informed of any issues that might arise, which are dealt with promptly.
The home is clean and very well run, food is varied and nutritious, residents are also kept well entertained, even during the current pandemic.
I am so happy and grateful for the care and commitment of everyone involved with the home.

My grandmother has been a resident of Allenbrook for more than seven years now and I cannot praise the nursing home enough. The facility is well set up and professionally run. The staff are caring, considerate and have responded to the varying and changing needs of my grandmother over a number of years.
Meals seem tasty and entertainment is well established and delivered several times throughout the week. As the Trustee to my Gran, I deal with the accounting department and they are always responsive and accurate. If I had to be in a nursing home myself (hopefully at least 40 years from now) I would be happy to be relocated to Allenbrook.

We are very happy with all the care from everyone at Allenbrook who have become our friends after 5-years of caring for Mum and being part of our extended family.
We really appreciate all the efforts and hard work they are making to ensure our loved ones stay safe in these extraordinary times.
We
receive very informative updates reassuring us of all the procedures that have been put in place, and it is good to know they have been able to resource a good supply of PPE.
We do miss visiting but know Mum is in good hands, and we look forward to spending time in the garden with Mum having tea parties in the future and thanking everyone personally.

On all my visits to this home, my mother has appeared well presented, clean and happy to the degree that her dementia allows. The staff are always most welcoming, helpful and forthcoming with answers to any questions I may have. The ability to access, via the relative's website, daily updates on all
aspects of her daily care is particularly welcoming, given my remote location from the home. Should any cause for concern occur regarding mothers' health, I always receive an immediate 'phone call from a member of staff to keep me fully informed! This has been the case throughout her stay, which has now covered the past three years.

Allenbrook has responded amazingly well to the COVID-19 outbreak. The home stopped all visitors earlier than many other homes, showing they keep up to date and ahead of the game on patient care. It has been very hard not to be able to visit my father, but I can ring every day. It is clear from talking
to him that his mental health remains very good; which is a tribute to the time and care that the excellent staff are delivering in these very challenging times. For very good quality care, including nursing care, in the area; I would thoroughly recommend Allenbrook Nursing Home.

Our stepmother has now been at the Allenbrook for just over a year. She is increasingly frail and now largely bedridden. Throughout her time there, she could not have better care. I pay tribute to the staff who are not only well organised and professional but are ever positive in their work. The place
has a warm feel about it. She seems genuinely happy to be there, and this gives us great peace of mind. The Allenbrook has handled the current Covid-19 epidemic with great skill and throughout has communicated very well with us. So far no cases - thank goodness.

My wife has lived at Allenbrook for two and a half years and I spend ten hours a day with her and am well placed to make comment. The period in question is the Christmas period 2018. I was so impressed by the enthusiasm of the activities team to transform the home into a warm and seasonal decor which
would leave many commercial businesses in the cold.
All the staff showed enthusiastic support to all the residents at this time and this mutual respect shows that we do not take them all for granted.

I moved my brother from his previous nursing home in July 2018. At that nursing home, he was left in his room all day, I suspect sedated and fast becoming a bedridden 'vegetable'. However, since moving to Allenbrook, his general demeanour and mental capability have improved beyond all recognition/expectation,
due somewhat to the care and general expertise of every member of staff. It is truly gold-plated care.

Allenbrook is situated in lovely grounds and close enough to the town centre to walk or use a buggy. The area is quiet and peaceful. All the staff are kind, friendly and efficient. I have not met a member of staff who isn't pleasant. They are always helpful.
The place is not purpose built but a converted
Manor House so the common rooms are relatively small but it has a homely feel that you might not get in a modern facility.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.581)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.581) out of 10 for Allenbrook Nursing & Residential Care is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.500 for Allenbrook Nursing & Residential Care is calculated as follows: ( (34 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.081 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Allenbrook Nursing & Residential Care is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.581

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
