My husband has a 4 week respite stay at Northbrooke while I went into hospital and subsequent recovery. Initially I was very concerned about this. However, from the moment of arrival everyone was so welcoming and he immediately settled in. All the staff were so kind and caring and treated him with respect and dignity. He was so well looked after and I thank each and every one of them for that. Management were always on hand too to answer any queries. I would have no hesitation in recommending.

I have started to visit a very good friend who is now a resident approx 4 weeks ago. The first time I visited I immediately felt happiness and care. Also cleanliness and such a welcome it is a joy to visit my friend, and he is so happy. Your staff are all so lovely, caring, happy and so wonderfully interactive with the residents. Your care home is bright and it all feels like it is everyone's home. I cannot speak highly enough of your staff and also meeting other residents who tell me they are happy. I visit my friend 2/3 per week and each visit is a pleasure.

We have been absolutely delighted with the care, patience and attention given to my father over the last three months since his arrival at Northbrooke House. Nothing has been too much trouble and the staff have gone above and beyond to make him comfortable and settled. Their own knowledge along with their access to outside agencies have both been exemplary. We have been encouraged to visit at any time and made completely welcome on every occasion. We cannot recommend Sarah and her team highly enough.

Everyone in Northbrooke House did a superb job to make Mum's last days as peaceful as they could. She didn't stay long there but everyone was friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to pop in and chat to her even when it was not their job. I could not ask for more. Thank you so much.

Dad was a resident at Northbrooke House from July 2025. It was a big transition for him moving from living on his own in the North West to Havenstreet. He spent every day in the lounge as he wanted to be with other people. The staff were wonderful both with him & us, his family. They respected his wishes and were always kind and courteous. I spent the last week by his bedside when he was mostly sleeping and it was a huge comfort to hear and see the dignity, care and warmth offered to him by all the staff. It wasn't always easy - he had complex needs which were dealt with compassionately and professionally. Dad liked a good moan yet he never complained about the place or the people. I am confident he was well cared for throughout his time at Northbrooke and thank all the staff for their contribution to making his time comfortable and enjoyable.

My Mum has been very well cared for by the wonderful staff at Northbrooke House for 18 months. Since the time she arrived she was treated with respect and dignity. As a family, we have been welcomed into the community by all the staff. I visit my Mum several times a week and am always greeted by staff with a smile. My Mum is always clean and well cared for. She does not join in many of the activities but is still a part of all that goes on. Sadly my Mum died in January. During the last two days of her life I cannot express enough gratitude for all that was done to make her comfortable. The staff with whom we were close to at that time could not have done more to care for my Mum and to support me and our family. Their obvious love for Mum was evident in their reaction to her passing. I could not have wished for more at that difficult time.

Thank you, my Mum always said the staff were angels, and you certainly proved it to me too.

Please be aware that this home does not cater for all dementia like it said on line my father has complex dementia and had care plan for this and 1 to1 12 hours a day in the morning before his 1to1 come on .his mat bell went off it took 14.34 mins to react to this so he shuffled around corridor and went into another residence room where a incident happened because of this my father was gaven a eviction notice so them have put him in a locked room with his 1 to 1 during day and his Own at night because moving him isn't quick enough they are adding thing to his care plan to get his sectioned would thing twice about putting a relative in this home because if their need change they just tell lies and evict them

Overall Experience

This used to be a very welcoming home but no longer the case.sadly the manager rarely comes out of the office to interact with residents or family. The residents look bored., entertainment very poor.Same few residents go on regular outings in minibus leaving others with no activities, except when CQC due then every game and activity on display. Many residents in one lounge with small television in one corner, often tv and radio going together .one resident likes to take control of tv and keep changing channels.Food plentiful but too much my relative has put on over a stone in 6 months, snack table in lounge to help themselves to chocolate, biscuits, crisps not good for those with dementia unable to weigh up healthy choices.Has a garden but residents only able to use with supervision and not encouraged to go out. Some carers are very caring, housekeeping staff pleasant. Often delay in answering call bells noticed when visiting.

Reply from Ian Bennett, Managing Director at Northbrooke House

We are sorry to hear that you feel disappointed with aspects of your relative's experience. Our team strives to create a warm engaging environment for all residents with an activities programme that includes both on-site entertainment & regular trips. These are designed to support residents'...

There is one thing that I am not happy about. When my husband was at Northbrooke, he was going through an aggressive phase, Northbrooke called me to say that they were going to put him on a 1 on 1 from 2 PM to 9 PM. I listened but did not agree to anything. They then said that a form would be sent to me to sign which I never received. I didn't hear anything about it. Then all of a sudden I get a monthly bill of £3000 plus beginning in February-March.

In May and June, I visited my husband and asked to meet the 1 on 1 person, I was told that she was not in that day. Another time I was with a friend and he was sitting alone with all the other residents and not one person was around him or near him. This happened a few more times and I was wondering what I was paying for? Especially when the 1 on 1 was not in the day when I asked to meet the person. How many days did this happen? My husband has been self-funding for almost 3 years and now he is on Social Funding and I am paying half the fee.

Reply from Ian Bennett, Managing Director at Northbrooke House

Thank you for your feedback. We discussed the need for one-to-one support for your husband to ensure his and other residents' safety. We regret that the form was not received and acknowledge the concerns about billing. When we were informed a one-to-one might not have been present, an investigation...

My friend has been a resident for about 18 months and in that time he has been cared for very well. Although he is unwell he has improved from his time at Northbrooke House. The biggest challenge is to improve his physical abilities but he still seems reluctant to participate.

Thank you so much for your review of Northbrooke House and the care provided for your friend. As you are aware we encourage and support our residents to participate in general and one-to-one activities but if they choose not to engage we have to respect their choices. I will make sure that staff are directed to see your lovely comments. Again thank you for taking the time to submit this review.

On arrival, the manager was immediately very welcoming. She understood how we felt and reassured us. This new path the whole family had to take was good for everyone. The staff are friendly and caring. They give 1-1 time with the residents and incorporate family members into conversations. Nothing is too much trouble and assist straight away. Mostly with thanks to the manager, we no longer feel guilty or a failure.

I have been invited to to this care home to provide Dog therapy, this is something vital to those living in a dementia care setting as it not only stimulates those living with dementia.
I was so impressed with the care staff who welcomed me with open arms and the residents absolutely loved my little dog who was able to make the residents in the lounges smile and reminisce about dogs they have cared for in their lives, but also those being cared for in bed. My little dog was so welcomed by those being cared for in their rooms and it made them smile and seemed to help them remember memories about younger days. The smiles I saw were so heartwarming.
What really was welcoming was the manager, she was so kind to us and so forward-thinking with a view for us to return and become part of a care home family.
This care home has great rooms, great care staff and a great leader who obviously seems focused on providing the highest level of care.

We can not wait to return.
