The Langston was built by the Earl of Ducie as a hunting lodge with stabling for forty horses in the 1870s. It was built using stone from the private quarry of his father-in-law, Squire Langston. It later became a popular hotel.

In 1985 it was turned into a residential home. The property was chosen not only for its suitability in having wide corridors and no steps within the building, but...

I cannot thank you all enough for the love and care you have given my wife these few weeks. I would recommend The Langston to anyone. I was impressed with how all the staff from the management down, knew all the residents and their situations and even their relatives.

It became clear at an early point in the accomodation and care that standards are high and maintained. The staff at every level are friendly, positive and proactive. Patients are well served and their welfare and best interests delivered in a homely environment. Activity and stimulation is favourable and significantly supportive and suitable. In all aspects a very caring and suitable home.

My mum spent the last 4 1/2 months of her life here, from day one we could see the respect and care that was given was amazing, every visit mum was looking comfortable, the room was clean and tidy. Mum was bedridden so activities were not used but someone always had time to sit and chat with mum, she needed assistance with every part of her life and this was given with love.

Reply from Andrea Mociran, Manager at The Langston Residential & Nursing Home

Although my husband is no longer at the Langston he spent nearly 2 years in their care. I was always impressed by the kindness shown both to him and the family. The care was excellent and I keep in touch still to this day. Thank you on behalf of us all.

Langston House is situated in a beautiful location. All the care staff are warm and welcoming. My brother and I cannot fault their level of commitment to ensuring all his needs are met. The staff really do care!
The home offers a wonderful range of activities. Staff are really attentive to my brothers needs.
The food is excellent, catering to all tastes.

From day 1 we were welcomed into the home and I was secure in the knowledge my brother, who has Parkinsons would be well looked after.

Review from Sally V (Friend of Resident) published on 10 March 2025 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My close friend was a resident at the Langston for 14 months. She was always treated with kindness, compass and courtesy.
The management and staff got to know her very well ( including secretary, cooks and domestic staff). Her needs were met wherever possible.
As end of life approached she was reassured that her wishes would be fulfilled ( as far as medically possible). For example not going to hospital and oxygen being available if she needed it. She was made comfortable with sensitivity and care and continually checked on.
I visited often, was welcomed and cared for.
Some residents had dementia and their behaviour unpredictable. Nonetheless staff were patient and kind. An example of this; I was sometimes there late at night and saw folk still up in pyjamas, in the living room wrapped up cosily in a blankets as they didn't want to go to bed till later.

I would definitely recommend the Langston and would like to thank them publicly for the care of my dear friend.

The gentleman I care for went into respite care for ten days. He settled in straight away and was very well cared for by all the staff. I was able to visit with him at various days and times and on arrival always found him happy and settled. The staff were very hospitable and kind to family visiting as well. I have certainly no hesitation in recommending them and using them again in the future. The gentleman on respite was happy so makes me his main carer happy. Thank you all for having him and looking after him so well.

I am really pleased that I changed homes for my brother and brought him closer to where I live though he can be difficult at times I feel the staff at The Langston are kind, caring and extremely attentive towards him. I always find everyone friendly when I arrive to see him and always ask if I want any refreshments or lunch if I am there when meals are served.

I recently visited my stepfather with some other family members. We walked in during an activity session which was great to see. The staff as ever were so kind towards not only my stepfather but all of us too. The home is always so clean and well taken care of and more importantly, so is my stepfather. We have always found the staff to be attentive, patient and kind towards the residents which we find very reassuring in difficult circumstances.

I went to the Langston’s Priory in Kingham to see my stepfather and was really surprised at how pleasant the experience was. The place was clean, warm and friendly, and the staff really friendly and kind and very caring to me - let alone my stepfather. I think I expected something totally different and was a little shocked at how, much more pleasant the visit was than I thought it was gonna be and this had a lot to do with the staff. Very friendly and very caring. I’m coming back to the States in two days and I’m not gonna worry about I am as much as I did. Now that I know he is being cared for by such lovely caring people - it’s a very hard job and I’m very difficult job and it takes a very special person to do that job so thank you

My mother moved into The Langston two months ago. The staff have been welcoming, professional and supportive, and she feels settled and looked after. The staff brought her to our home last week when they had the use of a minibus, and my mother had a wonderful day out. She had also had two very enjoyable day trips in the minibus the previous week, which gave her confidence. It would be very helpful if the home had their own minibus.

My experience was excellent from the off. My father was accepted into the nursing home for his last weeks of life. The management and staff were all so friendly and kind, nothing was too much trouble. I was greeted at the door and instantly offered tea or coffee. Although my father was only in the home for two weeks, I was happy that he was so well cared for, I could not have asked for more. The cleanliness of the home was outstanding, whatever he required he got, it was a plus that there are no set visiting times, you are welcome any time. Brilliant all-round. Thank you.

My father is a resident of The Langston Residential & Nursing Home, He suffers from dementia. All staff are so kind, patient and understanding and we know that dad is getting 1st class care. Always quick to contact you with any concerns and we are more than happy with the care he is receiving. My father was a resident of The Langston Residential & Nursing Home from June 2021 until his death in February 2023. He suffered from Parkinson's and dementia and was 96 when he passed away. Throughout his time there his care was absolutely first-rate. I have crossed paths with dozens of staff and without exception, they have been gentle, considerate and extremely patient. Overall, the home has perfected the blend of combining the very professional with the very personal and I could not help but be struck by how much individual members of staff personally cared for the wellbeing of my dad, and, I must say, as my dad was in his final days, for me too. It genuinely provides peace of mind to know that my dad's final couple of years were lived in the company of people who made him feel safe, happy and loved. I cannot commend The Langston more highly.

My grandmother has been a resident at the Langston Residential Home for almost two years, the home has been brilliant in communicating with the family with regards to her health. We cannot thank the nursing staff enough in helping to reduce hospital admission which can be very distressing for her.
The home has been welcoming to all our family, and we appreciate them letting us personalise her room and putting a bird feeder up outside her window, to make her feel more at home.

They have a wide range of activities available and plenty of fresh homemade cakes.
