My mother is very happy at Oakland and the service they provide is exceptional. Everyone is cheerful and kind, it was a worry I had when looking for a home that everyone would be too busy to care.
The food provided is of a high standard and family can be included. In these days of being cost-conscious,
it's value for money.

As others are mentioning this more; an update to my previous review where the care home had not refunded the monies owed after my mother died in May 2024. 9 months and still not paid. Despite direct communication with one of the Directors, who promised to resolve the issue and refund us, he never did.
After months of promises, I applied through the small claims court. They did not pay. I then applied for a County Court Judgement due to non-payment of the small claims. Again, they did not pay. I am having to go to the next level of legal pursuit; an enforcement order. Like others, I cannot resolve the estate and probate unless I write off the debt or I recover it. I lodged a complaint with the Care Quality Commission but they will not pursue it if you have started legal proceedings. The company behind it is Aethel Care homes if you need to find their registered address. After ignoring me for 9 months of detailed chasing, I believe this behaviour is a conscious decision.

My Mother passed away in August 2024 after a stay at Oaklands for 3 years and before that my Dad was a resident for 2 years and for both of them they were well cared for especially during the Covid times. However, after my Mothers passing we were issued with a credit note for the period that she had
paid for but not used - but the monies were never refunded and despite many calls and email this still remains the case and is holding up the completion of Mums estate - if it was a small sum we would waive it but as you can imagine the high cost of the fees it is not an inconsiderable amount of money.
It is shameful that when the staff at Oaklands gave so much commitment to my parents that the directors see fit to ignore this and leave me and other relative to berate their experience of Chanctonbury Care.
Having read other reviews from relatives it seems that there is a pattern occurring of blatant theft.
I am so concerned that I have made contact with the Care Quality Commission. Be warned.

Poor care, left in bed, not take to the toilet. Lifts broken so not taken out of room.
Told to 'wee' in her pad. Shower less than twice a week! Sadly only excuse she refuses, yet says to us she hasn't been offered.

Mum has been at Oakland's for nearly a year now. She is more independent than at previous home and regularly checked by the friendly staff team. When I walk in, staff know who I am, the approach feels very personalised and caring - like a family.
The residents at oaklands have mixed abilities so hopefully
in time, Mum will venture to the lounge. She's enjoyed the Llama and animal visits
Staff are always happy to Listen and give their time. I would be happy overall to chose this home myself if needed.
Communication does need some improvements otherwise I would give a 5.

My grandmother was a resident at Oaklands for 2 and half years and sadly passed away in July 2024. Her room was cleared within 48 hours but we are still waiting on a refund from the accounts department including a direct debit that was taken 2 weeks after her passing.
She loved the staff at Oaklands
but any happy memories I have of that place are getting very quickly erased by a very very poor accounts department. They don't even reply to emails after 3 months of chasing. If I had known this in advance I would have chosen another care home. Please be aware to cancel your loved ones direct debit straight away. Otherwise you will be have this headache. Something you really don't need after losing a loved one and money you need to carried their wishes.

My mother was very happy at Oaklands Court, the staff there are so caring and really took the time to get to know her and find the things she liked. They looked after her very well, always let us know what was happening and were really helpful and friendly when I visited. Finding a nursing home for
Mum was hard, we spent a long time looking and I am so glad that we found Oaklands as it turned out to be a lovely place for Mum to stay in.

Today I visited a member of my partner's family and for the first time. I was welcomed by everyone I met and included to attend the activity in the lounge today - reminiscing and playing.
Some word-based games, which I found to be valuable to all the residents that were there, they all appeared content
and spoke in positive terms about the home.
I feel the family member is looking relaxed and happy here and joining in socially - which is such a new thing for her. Lovely place indeed.

We were so lucky for my father to be able to spend the last weeks of his life at Oaklands Cour. Every member of staff were so wonderfully kind, caring and compassionate to him. They always managed to bring a little smile to his face even when he was so poorly. All the staff were equally as kind, caring
and compassionate to both my sister and myself and to all family visitors who came to see our father while he was in their care.

What a lovely care home. Staff greeted me with a smile and were smartly attired. Everyone on the day I visited was busy but found time to be available to answer any questions or queries. In my opinion, this is one of the best local care homes I have visited (in all respects). I wouldn't hesitate in
recommending this remarkable lifeline.

Hello everyone. I just want to say how lovely Oaklands were to my mum. She went there for end-of-life care and spent six weeks in residence. The staff were great, and nothing was too much trouble. She was treated with such dignity, even though she was bed-bound. Great attention was paid to making sure
she was comfortable, and pain relief was constantly monitored.
We live locally, and it was great being able to pop in and spend quality time with her at any time we wanted. She loved Oaklands; it became a home from home for those last weeks, and we were able to make some lovely memories.
At the end, although we didn't make it in in time, it was lovely to know someone was there holding her hand when she passed.
We were treated with such care and understanding at this time. I can never thank them enough for what they did. We feel we have made friends.

As soon as I entered "Oaklands", I felt the warmth - one member of staff was very welcoming, and I recognised her from years ago - having grown up with her family, especially her Mum. The care given to my friend has been wonderful, with compassion and dignity, which were his overall wishes.

My mum stayed at Oaklands Court for approximately two months for respite care, following time in the hospital after a fall. Mum and family members visiting were made to feel very welcome, and Mum was very happy to stay at Oaklands Court. The team were very approachable and really helpful with any queries
I raised. Mum's mobility and strength improved during her stay, and she has now returned home with support from carers.

My father moved to Oaklands following the death of my mother. The care and compassion shown by the entire staff team have been incredible. He is happy and well looked after. I am happy as I know they all have his best interests at heart. Visiting him is enjoyable, and we are always made welcome and
offered a cup of tea. His particular food tastes have been catered for, and his room is comfortable, but most importantly, he is spending his days being treated with dignity, and an understanding of his individuality, in an empathetic environment.

My mother has received outstanding care at Oaklands during the past three years. The staff are professional and knowledgeable, in terms of both nursing and general care. I am comforted in the knowledge that Mum is looked after by such a wonderful staff team; I cannot praise them enough.
As a family
member with POA, I am kept up to date with any changes in Mum’s medical condition and needs. Any family visitors are made to feel extremely welcome by all staff.
Mum could not be in a better place at this stage of her life.

The empathy and care shown to him were wonderful. Our children and myself were embraced by all the staff, and we were all treated with kindness and care. We felt part of the family, so much so I myself am terminally ill and have requested my end of life at Oaklands. I cannot think of anywhere I would
want to be at this time other than in their care, treated with dignity and love as he was treated. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.308)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.308) out of 10 for Oaklands Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 3.8 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.794 for Oaklands Court is calculated as follows: ( (49 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (19 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (17 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 131 Ratings = 3.794
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.514 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oaklands Court is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.814
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
