My mother spent almost 7 months at Country Lodge Nursing Home before she died earlier this year and myself and my sisters thought it was a lovely place. The staff were so caring and friendly to us and Mum - even though Mum had dementia at that stage, they'd chat with her and go along with what she was saying. They always called her by her first name and when they came into tend to her, they would explain what they were going to do so she was aware.

There are activities - a weekly quiz, monthly singing/dancing, Christmas activities, etc. Mum did join in with the quizzes, as well as the singing. At Christmas, the nursing home provides presents for everyone and they all sat around the tree to get them. They didn't all receive the same present - thought had gone into each person's gift to cater for their likes and requirements. Everyone then had lunch in the dining room.

The views were fantastic and the garden was lovely to sit in. The food was good and we could join for meals if we wanted.

Lovely place.

Country Lodge is a lovely nursing home which looked after my dad very well for 6 months following an operation. I only moved him because he needed to be in a care home with my mum elsewhere.

The location is lovely - in the foothills of the South Downs. The view from the lounge is stunning. The gardens are large and well tended.

The staff are welcoming and friendly and many of them struck up a warm relationship with my dad.

The husband-and-wife owners are often in the home, working and they are always happy to have a chat and pass the time of day. So it's not run by a faceless company.

All in all, I have been very happy with Country Lodge and recommend it.

Country Lodge is a delightful nursing home where the staff are all kind, efficient and thoughtful regarding the patients' needs. The rooms are charmingly furnished and are fully supplied with necessary equipment.

It provides a safe haven for its patients, who are treated with dignity at all times. The food provided is well planned, balanced and presented, and the cooking of a high standard.

Country Lodge provided my elderly mother with excellent care during the nine months she spent there. From the start she loved her newly decorated garden room and was very appreciative of the kindness and support provided by all members of staff.

I and the rest of Mum's family are very grateful that she could spend the last months of her life in such a caring environment. Not only did Mum receive such good care, but during family visits, we were always welcomed with a warm greeting and friendly smile.

We have been impressed when visiting the home of the homely, friendly feel, ambience and professional caring attitude of the staff. It's often difficult to choose a nursing home for a family member but Country Lodge have shown to be able to provide individualised care in a lovely environment.

Reply from John Wright, Proprietor at Country Lodge Nursing Home

This is a lovely review, but we need to emphasise the effort that goes into making our rooms individual, homely and well-equipped and decorated. "Satisfactory" rather understates this effort and contradicts the usual response that we receive from residents and visitors.

The Country Lodge Nursing Home is a little slice of paradise for the elderly. My father was looked after with tender care and humour.

I used to look forward to visiting him not just to see him but all the staff and residents! My father had a wonderful room that looked out onto a beautifully landscaped garden. The food was amazing. My (fussy) father would look forward with relish to all mealtimes! Everyone who worked at Country Lodge went that extra mile to make all residents and relatives feel welcome. I wholly recommend this lovely place to anyone looking for a ‘home from home’ for their parents.

Myself and my family cannot thank the staff of Country Lodge Nursing Home enough for the tender loving care they gave to my mum during the last few months of her life. The staff became part of her family and ours too. Myself and my sister spent many hours visiting Mum and never witnessed anything other than kindness and respect towards her and the other residents.

We will be eternally grateful to them all.

My mother-in-law was a resident for about 5 months, after suffering a stroke. She was unable to walk or care for herself. The staff are very attentive and caring and carry out their duties with a positive and happy manner. The home is set on the edge of farmland. With a lovely outlook, especially from the well-kept gardens, which the residents are encouraged to use. The management is very professional and any correspondence is dealt with very efficiently.

I would highly recommend Country Lodge Nursing Home to any of my friends or relatives. I have visited on numerous occasions over the years and always found everything from staff, food, facilities etc. to be first class. Country Lodge is a very warm and welcoming Nursing Home, tastefully furnished with beautiful well kept gardens to look out onto. There are always plenty of activities arranged to keep everyone entertained. I cannot think of anything negative to say about this lovely Home.

Country Lodge Nursing Home has to be the best nursing home in the area. The staff were always attentive and smiling and friendly to my mother and to myself and my siblings whenever they visited. The care my mother got was so good. The food and choice of food could not be faulted. My mother spent her last 3 years here and I'm sure it was because of the standard of Country Lodge.
Our choice of nursing home for my mother was influenced by nurses at Worthing Hospital, who recommended Country Lodge, saying that colleagues had left to go there because of the good reputation.

I would not hesitate to recommend Country Lodge.

When my mum was admitted to this home she was only 6 stone and slightly confused. Since that time, over 18 months or so, she has gained a considerable amount of weight and her faculties have been restored. I play Scrabble with her often and I have to work hard to beat her. She has always said that the lunch is very good and that is important when life is so restricted. She is less flattering about her tea, sandwiches usually, but there is no shortage of good food including home made cakes available all day. I have noticed that she has drink beside her at all times so that dehydration is no longer an issue. When she was living on her own that was the major cause for concern. The staff are well-trained, cheerful, and helpful. There are trained staff on duty at night too. There may be an issue about the time it takes about going to the toilet after lunch but I suspect the pressure on the system arises in this area because all the residents want to go at the same time. Thanks to the staff!

Tribute to our staff's restorative powers is much appreciated and it is a joy to see our resident's renewed zest for life.

We cannot fault the care that my mother received in this home. The staff are very attentive, caring and friendly. My mother lived at this home for nearly 2 and a half years following a spell in hospital. She had both mobility problems and dementia. Her room looked out over the garden and the South Downs and although bed ridden most of the time, she enjoyed the view which was a regular topic of conversation. Mum couldn't have had better care anywhere and when the time came, it was dealt with extremely sensitively. As a family, we were always welcome and made to feel part of things.

We can't thank the team there enough and wish them all the very best.

Cleanliness is clearly paramount and one is always greeted with a clean fresh smell with not a hint of disinfectant, air freshener or the dreadful hospital smell. My father's room was always clean and cosy.
My father thoroughly enjoyed the flavoursome, freshly cooked meals and afternoon tea and cake.
My father had a plethora of medical problems. The nurses were incredibly efficient, as well as compassionate. I was confident my father was regularly monitored and concerns addressed immediately.
Staff treated my father with dignity and respect and were empathetic to the challenges his illness presented him. They cared patiently for his physical needs, showed him kindness when he felt low, made him laugh and humoured him when he was being grumpy.

My father passed away in January however the care he received meant he spent the last months of his life feeling safe, happy and relaxed knowing he was surrounded by good people who had his best interests at heart and genuinely cared.

I and my siblings are very impressed with the care that our aunt is receiving at Country Lodge Nursing Home, she was very poorly when she first arrived however little by little we have seen an improvement in Aunties health, she is far more comfortable and out of pain, she is always clean and tidy and appears to be relaxed. I have visited various Homes over the years and very often there is an unpleasant smell or air fresheners are used to mask these odours, here it just smells clean. The staff are caring and put the patient first, which is just as it should be, if they are tending to our aunts personal needs when we arrive we have to wait outside the room until they have finished, thereby safeguarding her dignity.

I would definitely recommend this Nursing Home without hesitation.

Having looked at the other reviews, I must agree with many, as that is my view now having my mother staying there. She has only been there for just over 4 weeks. I know she is happy there and because of her age that really does count. The staff do their best all the time, and sometimes make my mother laugh, which she hasn't done much of for a while. I'm glad to be able to put my and mother's views forward.

Mum has enjoyed the best care and attention since commencing her stay 12 months ago . She receives excellent medical and caring support. Although initially reluctant to leave her home, she now says that she regards Country Lodge as her home. She says she feels "safe" and that she never feels lonely because she has a constant stream of visitors in the form of the carers. She was delighted that they produced a birthday cake and helped her celebrate her 91 st birthday recently. I sleep a lot easier knowing she is happy and so well cared for .
