My brother's stay was sadly quite short (for palliative care) but the standard of care and support was excellent throughout. Every member of staff I was in contact with impressed with their professionalism and kindness. This is clearly a well-run home with the individualised care of its residents at
its heart. The atmosphere and environment is comfortable, smart and relaxing - but the home is equipped with high-grade equipment and procedures. (Even when there was a change of shift, it was clear there was always a smooth and proper handover.) We have no criticisms, only praise to offer - and will be forever grateful that our brother was so well cared for at the end of his life.

I cannot fault the care, kindness and love shown to my dear mother during her time at Pentlands. The staff could not have done more to ensure her comfort and safety were their priority at all times.
Mum spent her final days safe and happy.

I highly recommend Pentlands Nursing Home. All the staff, whatever their role, are kind, caring and very good at what they do. They clearly care about the residents and their families. My mum was made to feel very welcome and at home from the minute she arrived. There are lots of activities for residents
and their visitors join in with, and the food is delicious. It gives me great peace of mind to know that my mum is being so well cared for in such a homely environment.

Mum moved into Pentlands about 7 weeks ago.
After being so independent and active just a few months ago, it was a massive change to suddenly need 24 hour care, 7 days a week.
The nurses, carers, kitchen staff, cleaners and all the other staff have made it a smooth a transition as possible. They are
all so kind, helpful and caring. Mum and I love to see all their smiling faces as they go about their caring work.
Mum never feels rushed with their care towards her, and loves that they take time to chat and help to make her laugh in such a difficult personal time.
All the staff seem to go above and beyond for the people they look after.
The food is great, mum hasn't had one meal she has not eaten!
They offer fun activities in the lounge for those who like some company and things to do.
We would thoroughly recommend Pentlands for anyone looking for a nursing home that goes that bit extra for their loved one!

My Aunt sadly passed away this month, after a stay of some 17 months at Pentlands. When she arrived, the family had been advised that she probably had 3 months life expectancy as a result of stage 4 cancer. As a result, she was in for full medical care. Some 17 months later, she decided that it was
her time. The management and staff, we believe, provided the care, support and compassion that made the last year and a half possible. Her quality of life was enhanced by those at Pentlands, and it was clear that not only had she grown incredibly fond of them, it genuinely felt that it was reciprocated.
All staff demonstrated a level of understanding, not just of her care needs, but of her as an individual, which speaks volumes, and un until the last few weeks, our Aunt had been happy and content, which is only down to the care and attention provided.
The management at Pentlands have been amazing, always available to talk, help and give guidance and advise when needed. Thank you.

My wife is a resident needing 24 hour nursing care since July 23. She has her own room, which is kept very clean at all times. The care staff are very professional, carrying out their duties with empathy and humour. The nurses are the same and the domestic workers are also like this. The facilities
are first class and well maintained. Activities and entertainment are provided on most days and are very good. Visitors are always made welcome and encouraged to visit. Myself and our family have every confidence in the excellent, warm care provided. This is a safe home for my wife, with great care given 24 hours a day.

Pentlands provides excellent care in a very friendly, comfortable, and supportive environment.
In fact, I would describe it as a true home from home, and relatives are considered as much as residents. Very good activities are arranged on a daily basis with some quality entertainment included. The
food provided is of top quality and well presented.

Mum moved into Pentlands at the start of December. Despite some apprehension at having to move into a nursing home the staff have made her feel at home. Nothing is too much trouble for the care/nursing staff. The food has been excellent especially over the Xmas period. They put on great activities including
a number of terrific singers which residents and guests are encouraged to join in with. They even sorted the funded nursing care benefit to help with the costs. Relatives and friends are able to visit as often as they like and are made to feel very welcome too. The maintenance staff even hung up some bunting and offered to put up extra shelving. We would definitely recommend Pentlands to anyone looking for nursing care for themselves or a loved one

My mother in law resided in Pentlands from November 2021 as she required nursing care. From the start she was happy in her new home, loving her spacious, spotlessly clean, light room. However, it was the brilliant, attentive, supportive care she received that helped her settle so quickly making her
feel safe and secure in her new situation and surroundings. She came to regard all the amazing staff, in all roles, as her extended family. They took the time to know her and what she enjoyed, whether it was a treat of delicious cake at a local coffee shop or in her room, a competitive game of Scrabble or a good natter. All this on top of providing her with the daily care she needed. Her final years were spent in great comfort and were as full as possible. We will always be grateful to the whole team lead by their excellent manager who was always so professional and compassionate.

Pentlands Care Home has exceeded all our expectations in the care for my mother in the final few months of her life. All the staff are truly dedicated, offering an extremely high level of care. The care home is extremely clean and well maintained with large en-suite bedrooms and a lovely home from
home feel. My mum enjoyed the programme of social activities which are organised daily by the brilliant activity coordinators. The food is of a very high standard and the chefs are extremely accommodating and kind, nothing was too much trouble.

Most importantly, the staff treated my mother with dignity and kindness. It has been extremely reassuring to know that my mum not only received excellent care, but was also surrounded by people who truly care - nothing was too much trouble. I can't thank Pentlands enough for this wonderful experience, not only for my mum but for the whole family. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart, my family and I will always be so grateful.

Thank you for making this last season of my mum's life so comfortable. I watched the staff care for her with tender gentleness as if she was your own relative. You made her feel safe and secure and even though she wasn't able to articulate that herself, just to see her smile at you said it all and in
so doing you were a huge support to me as well. From the nursing staff to carers, activity staff, chefs, cleaner and admin... you have all bee wonderful.

My lovely dad was a resident in Pentlands for 2 and a half years, this was a very hard decision as anyone would know when having to make this on behalf of a loved one so it's very important to get it right, which we did. In this time Dad got the best care I believe with the carers picking up straight
away if something wasn't right, the nursing staff, matron, clinical lead would act on it with nothing being too much trouble. I used to try and go in every day often at different times. Whether it would be the cleaning staff, laundry, activity they all became so important in Dad's care as they all played a part in taking time to chat to Dad. I was able to take my dog in and go at any time day or night and to me they all became a huge support knowing I could leave Dad there and he had the best of care. As my dear dad declined it was even more noticeable that nothing was too much trouble even the kitchen staff trying anything to try and get Dad to eat, I can't thank them all enough.

As a family, we wanted to share our sincere thanks to all the staff who work so hard to do the very best for everyone in their care and always with a smile on their face. We can honestly say that choosing a home for a loved one is a hard decision but we knew we had made the right decision when we chose
Pentlands and we know how much our loved one was aware he was being well cared for at all times. He enjoyed his food and the chefs would always be happy to cook alternative choices if he wanted something not on the menu. Plenty of varied activities you can join in or just watch if you would prefer. Nice garden to sit in on a sunny day. Family always made very welcome and the staff approachable at all times. Have no reservations in recommending Pentlands.

Pentlands was home to Papa for over three years and it really felt like his home. All the staff gave unwavering care, support, kindness and affection throughout Papa's time with them. Not only did the staff provide the practical care but also made time to get to know Papa, often chatting with him and
providing friendship; this included not only the care team but the housekeeping and kitchen team too. I would visit most days once or twice a day and only ever observed the highest level of care, attention and diligence. I got to know many of the team and their care and support were not limited to the residents but to their families too.
Pentlands provided lots of activities and entertainment for the residents to engage them and family and friends were always made extremely welcome to join in making the home inclusive. The home is relatively small with around 30 residents maximum and I believe that this is in part what makes Pentlands feel homely; that and all the wonderful staff in it.

Pentlands were exceptional in helping care for our mother. Mum lived there for four years, including in her final months, and we could not have asked for more support and kindness to be shown to Mum. We will always be grateful to them. They welcomed Mum and all her family and the wonderful staff there
went out of their way to include us in all care and activities. When Mum was dying it was a great comfort to know that before we arrived each day, we knew that one of the nurses or carers would already be sitting with her, holding her hand and talking to her. It might be a carer or a nurse or the manager herself - they were all there for her. It meant the world to us. We would recommend Pentlands to anyone seeking support for their loved ones.

Pentlands has been my mother's home for an unexpected seven years. Matron and all members of her staff treated my mother with the utmost care and kindness. Pentlands is warm and welcoming, the rooms are modern with TVs, armchairs and many opening out onto the garden. Meals are exceptional, we particularly
loved the cakes they bake in the afternoons - birthdays are always celebrated. Activities in the lounge are well organised with a regular variety of visiting entertainment. Cleanliness is a high priority throughout. My mother, who was unable to walk or move around by herself, had always loved bubble baths, so the staff went out of their way to help and assist her making sure she could still enjoy this small pleasure. I would definitely have no hesitation in recommending Pentlands to anyone and have already done so.

I would like to thank the staff at Pentlands Nursing Home for their exemplary care of my stepmother over the last 9 months. She was admitted for end-of-life care, and received just that. Individually, the staff showed a great deal of caring as well as care throughout her stay. What her last few days
and hours showed up most clearly was the skill of the nursing staff in things like managing pain control - clearly nursing homes have learned a lot from the hospice movement, and I understand they work closely with local hospice staff; and also how well they work as a team - and in that I include everyone - activities organisers, carers, chefs, domestic workers, laundry staff, nurses, office staff. My partner and I were also recipients of their kindness. A model of good practice. Thank you.

Pentlands recently cared for my very close friend through her end-stage of cancer.
The kindness and dignity they consistently showed her were comforting and heartwarming. She was so relieved to be with highly professional and sensitive carers, who took her lead throughout.
It is a very homely environment
and any food preferences were catered for throughout the day.
Nothing was too much trouble for them.
There were lots on offer to occupy residents if they wanted and there was also someone to just sit and chat to.
Family and friends were always welcome anytime, which was very inviting. I couldn't have hoped for a better home from home.
Many of the staff have been there for a very long time and I think that speaks volumes.
I can't thank them enough and would highly recommend this home.

Pentlands have been excellent in providing all levels of care to my mum. The care home manager is an excellent leader and all the staff are helpful, caring and supportive. The food was excellent - mum would comment frequently on how good it was and it really helped her overall wellbeing to be given
proper home cooked food at all times. All staff were very welcoming to visitors and included us in activities. Also very helpful at advising how to take mum out and about locally. They found her the right chair that she was comfortable in. The nursing care was always good - they seemed to know what would be best for mum at all times and they were good at explaining what was happening and keeping in touch at all times. Spotlessly clean at all times. A great home

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.874)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.874) out of 10 for Pentlands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.974 for Pentlands is calculated as follows: ( (184 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 189 Ratings = 4.974
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pentlands is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
