My mother who has Alzheimer's, has lived at Askham House for several years now, we moved her here from another care home due to concerns about her care during Covid. Since she has been at Askham she has been care for to a high standard, she is treated with respect and we are extremely happy with the staff that care for her.
Families are encouraged to highlight any concerns they may have at anytime, and although we have not had to raise anything much, when I have needed to speak to the lead nurses or any managers, I have always felt listened to and responded to.
I would highly recommend Askham House for your loved ones.
My father moved into Askham house a couple of months ago after his vascular dementia deteriorated. He had previously had a month in hospital then two months in another care home in Peterborough.
Having experience of Askham House as my mum has lived there for some years now, we decided to mum dad there too.

The first day we moved him he was calm happy and very settled. Both myself and my sister feel this is the best thing we have done for both mum and dad and for ourselves, we finally feel relaxed and happy with their care and thank the staff and management for all they do for us all.

With telephone conversation prior to visiting. MY mother and emails received my experience was of a positive, on my first impressions on entering the grounds was of a well kept establishment, on entering the main reception to seek advice on location of my mother the reception actually showed me to the destination which after a long 5 hour journey was much appreciated
On entering the unit, it felt secure and bright and clean. The staff have been nothing but informative and helpful in all areas, and the management is understanding, and very helpful advice going forward gives myself reassurance that my mother will be well looked after.
A very special thank you to Manu, and all the nurses and carers that have helped my mum Erica settle in

Kind regards Barry

As a family, we were very happy with the care that my father-in-law received at Askham House. We are incredibly grateful for the care and compassion shown to him during the final weeks of his life. The staff treated him with dignity, kindness and genuine warmth at all times and their support to our family meant more than words can express.

Nothing was ever too much trouble and it gave us great comfort knowing he was in such caring and capable hands. Thank you to everyone at the home for making such a difficult time a little easier through your professionalism, empathy and humanity.

I have found all the staff to be very attentive towards my wife and I am kept informed of any changes. Any enquiries that I make are immediately answered whether these relate to her day to day needs or to her medical condition. Following my wife's accidental fall that resulted in her sustaining a damaged shoulder and cracked upper arm, the staff are keeping a close eye on her mobility and are quickly assisting her if she moves around. The period of time when she lost her appetite was of great concern to both myself and the staff but their support to me when I offered to assist and encourage her eating of the mid day meal has been outstanding. In the early days of this, staff discussed with me different menus or treats that could be used to entice her to eat. The trying 2 or 3 week period in getting her back to eating a full meal was very worrying but by working together with carers and kitchen staff we all succeeded in getting her over this problem.

My step-nan recently moved into Askham House and from the moment we arrived, she received the warmest welcome. From day one, the care has truly lived up to its meaning in the purest sense. You only have to watch how the carers interact and engage with the residents to see how much they genuinely love what they do. It's clearly more than just a job to them - it's a family and a wonderful community to be part of. Their understanding of dementia shines through in everything they do, with care that is compassionate, patient, and full of kindness. The residents are full of life and smiles, often enjoying a cheeky dance. As a family, we have also been welcomed with open arms, and we love visiting. The activities team truly live up to their name, always providing a variety of engaging activities for the residents-from arts and crafts to cooking sessions and enjoyable film afternoons. They regularly welcome entertainment from the local community. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!!

Askham house is just the perfect place, my mum was in another care home in Huntingdon and it was awful the care was non existent.

We moved mum here in hope she would be cared for and loved and oh my was she, from the first day we walked through the door mum was greeted with warmth and love, the carers are amazing always chatting and helping the residents, there is always something going on with activities and even in the evening they will play music and sing and dance, it's just like being in a big family. Askham House is definitely the best place for my mum she loves it here, and we her family love it too just knowing that the carers are looking after her as they would there own parents Alzheimer's is a dreadful disease but at Askham house everyone is treated with love and respect just like they should be. My mother has been at Askham for 4 years now. I have to say that I prefer the set up in the other building- it is easier to get around than this one.

It would appear that the food she eats is now more easier to eat - it looks softer. Food was her main preoccupation as a vegetarian when she lived at home. If you could give her some Dahl and rice occasionally she would be very happy.

Other than that everything else seems fine.

I can't thank the staff enough for the wonderful care my husband receives. He has advanced Alzhiemers and depends on people to give him full nursing care. My husband has a most beautiful room, a carpet and lots of sunshine making it a calming place to be for him and our family.
Also Askham House is very dog friendly too, we bring our two dogs in to see my husband.
The place is spotlessly clean always and smells pleasant.

Overall the care staff are wonderful. They care. The ratio of staff to resident is concerning, low. It becomes obvious that standards are substantially raised prior to an inspection.

Mum lived at Askham House for 13 months until her passing in March 2025. During that time I was happy to be able to walk away from my visits knowing that Mum was in a comfortable, pleasant and safe environment, receiving excellent personal and medical care from the staff who, at all levels, were genuinely caring and helpful. I can highly recommend Askham House. My husband has been there for 6 years now. He has the best care anyone could ask for. Although my husband is in a wheelchair and can not do anything for himself the care he receives is outstanding. He can not speak but the staff read him so well. He is always well presented clean and tidy. Hair and nails too. I do have the time to be his wife and enjoy my time with him.
His food is tailored for his needs too, the chef takes note of residents choices and needs. (Food always smells good and looks good too.
All staff from cares, nurses and management excel in their work.

My beloved Dad has been a resident at Askham since before Covid. He has very limited abilities these days but the staff always ensure he is well turned out and that he has a shave (as being clean shaven was his preference when he was well). My Dad struggles to eat and the chef had a conversation with my Mum about how they could encourage him to eat more by making some of his favourite meals. The staff also make a conscious effort to bring him into the communal space in his wheelchair and move him to his bed at mealtimes as he eats better there. It is sad that Dad is so unwell but I am confident he is being well looked after at Askham.

My wife has Alzheimer's and after a fall at home needed to go into hospital. After six weeks in there I was told she was in the last stages of her illness, had only a short time to live and needed to be moved into a care home with nursing palliative for end of life care. I was given a list of suitable care homes but only Askham House was in reasonable travelling distance. I had 24 hours to decide and no chance to view. I agreed she should go there but had concerns about the unknown. I need not have worried. From my first visits there I knew I had made the right decision. The home is well laid out. spotlessly clean and fresh smelling, calm and inviting. The individual rooms are lovely. The nursing staff and carers are kind, friendly and totally dedicated. Because of this my wife's short time to live has now stretched to over a year and although she can't communicate, she is content and stress free.

My mother has been in this wonderful care home for almost 4 years. She has dementia and now unable to feed herself. She is always clean and tidy and has regular showers and hair washes (which in elderly people is not always easy to achieve) Her room is light, airy and always clean. Staff are efficient, caring, respectful and treat all residents with dignity.
