My father is a long term resident at Burwood Nursing Home and he has always received outstanding care. Throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, the home has ensured that residents have been kept safe and well. They have done their utmost to keep families in touch with their loved ones through all means
available and to ensure that residents have as many activities and opportunities as possible, to provide variety and stimulation despite the restrictions imposed by shielding. Management have provided regular updates to families, to ensure we are kept up to date with guidelines but also to allay any fears we may have had, given the extensive media coverage of difficulties in the care sector.

It was a daunting task to find a care home at short notice suitable for my parents. They both had very different needs, but I found the staff here more than capable and was able to grasp their individual needs very quickly and calmly. I found this to be an intimate home where the dignity of its residents
runs through its core. Their calming approach from the beginning gave me a lot of confidence in their provision of care at a time when I was feeling very unsettled and bereft.
The staff are always there to answer any questions and will act very quickly on any concerns. The staff have fed back without prompting on any changes that have impacted-upon my loved ones. During Covid19, receiving a weekly newsletter has kept me informed and updated on changes to policy, procedure and practices that have impacted upon my mother and the home overall. I acknowledge how difficult this can be and fully applaud all of their efforts to this end. Communication in this home has been excellent.

Fantastic care, cannot fault, especially throughout the Covid crisis. Kept patients and all staff safe as well as keeping us informed at all times. Arranged FaceTime/phone/Skype calls between us and our mum. Very caring at all times.

The home was captured on the internet for respite care following a new knee. Impressed by the number of five-star reviews. Never regretted coming here, to such a wonderful, proactive place. Staff, without exception, are wonderful, and the home is a credit to the owners: worth every penny.

The staff are always available to sort out various situations and to help in any way they can sometimes going the extra mile. Always kept up to date on medical situation and I feel very confident my relative is safe. Always lots going on and everyone is encouraged to be part of all events even when
bed bound, nobody is ever forgotten. Care is top class and I couldn’t wish for more and my relative has no complaints. It is like going to stay with friends.

At 84 my mum has always been reluctant to even have a period of respite in a nursing home. However, since the moment of arriving at Yaffle Care she was met by love, kindness, happiness and understanding. Her needs were paramount from the outset. She has made friends with other residents. All the staff
are kind and polite to her - nothing seems to be too much trouble. She is slowly gaining a little weight, after enjoying all the freshly prepared food. Her room is warm, clean and beautifully decorated. She has been encouraged to personalise it with her own belongings. From a daughter's perspective, it is a lovely welcoming place to visit. I can join her for a drink or a meal and I feel like a daughter again instead of a carer. This has given me much needed peace of mind.

I have already recommended Burwood Nursing Home and Yaffle Care to friends, having looked at a number of nursing homes for my mother, this is without a doubt the best choice in the area.
The manager and her carefully chosen staff have been patient, helpful, caring and completely wonderful with daily
care and when accompanying mum to hospital appointments. The food here is excellent, the chef is a real gem.
The theatre and Railway Tavern provide excellent entertainment and socialising opportunities.
Excellent outstanding in all areas.

My mother is very happy at this most wonderful nursing home. The ambience of warmth and professionalism is there as soon as you arrive. All staff are very helpful, patient and kind and smartly dresses. The food is first class and nicely presented. The activities exercise mind and body. There are also
outings and entertainments by outside musicians. With frequent "special events" to which relatives and friends are invited. Personal care is given with careful respect.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.720)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.720) out of 10 for Burwood Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Burwood Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (48 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.72 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Burwood Nursing Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.6 = 0.345
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
