Castle View is always full of activity and fun, and in recent years, the residents have held summer tea parties with home-made cakes, won prizes in the city’s scarecrow competition and enjoyed entertainment and events of every kind.

The Review Score of 7.3 (maximum of 10) for Castle View Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 3 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Castle View Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 4.121 for Castle View Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (17 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 33 Ratings = 4.121
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 3.2 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Castle View Nursing Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:
3 = 3
Target of 5 positive Reviews (25 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 1 Reviews ÷ 5 Target = 0.200
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My Dad has just spent three months at Castle View (intermediate care).....I don't normally write reviews, but felt on this occasion I had to make the exception...I cannot praise this setting highly enough, from the amazing staff who do their jobs brilliantly and always with a smile, kindness and compassion. Everywhere is kept clean and looking lovely and the food was lovely. I felt the staff really went above and beyond in caring for my Dad (the little treats of chocolate...which proved they had got to know him very well). I too always felt very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. I highly recommend Castle View and the wonderful staff there (I wish I could name you all!!!!.......thankyou

Thank you so much for your very kind words which I will make sure that all the care and IC team are made aware of. In these times with so much negativity, it is really encouraging for them to receive such positive support in an unsolicited appraisal of their work.
Thank you again this really means a lot to all the team at Castle View.

My Father is currently living at Castle View Nursing Home. Sadly he has dementia and is now bedridden. The care that he receives from all the staff at Castle View is wonderful. He is safe, clean, comfortable, warm, well fed and watered, which is all I could ask for.
I know that he is extremely well cared for and when I leave I do not have to worry because I know that all that can be done for him - is being done.
A BIG thank you to Kinga and all the staff at Castle View.

I am very happy my wife is sitting in the chair but I would love to see her down in the lounge if possible.
How likely would you be to recommend Castle View Nursing Home? Don't know
Matthew Airey, Managing Director at Castle View Nursing Home responded to this review on 01 Feb 2017:
Thank you for your feedback, both on the card for this website which we provided for you.
We always work to provide care that enables and enhances the lives of our residents. We are especially pleased that the considerable time and effort taken to encourage and support your wife to ‘sit-out’ and, now, spend periods in the lounge has been successful. We have always been mindful that this should not cause distress and is properly supported by the GP’s input and advice. We are also pleased that you feel able to visit daily and spend as long as you wish, staying for lunch sometimes, and that we were able to facilitate staying overnight at Christmas.
We are very sorry that you are disappointed with the in-house activities available for your wife. As you will be aware, there are external entertainers who continue to visit Castle View on roughly a weekly basis but, unfortunately, the Home’s dedicated Welfare Assistant who usually supports the more individual programmes has been quite unwell. Their absence has been covered, in part, by some Healthcare Assistants doing additional hours – a big thank you to them. However, as our dedicated Welfare Assistant may now be off for a longer period than initially anticipated we have now made arrangements for more formal temporary cover.
Turning to your ratings about facilities and value for money; this tends to be quite subjective. All our homes are small (under 30 residents) by design, to enhance the ability of our Carers to know their residents individually. We cannot boast the facilities of the larger homes - swimming pools, spas and the like - but find that families choose us because our home is a home first with staff who know their residents well. We source all sorts of services and activities from the local community where appropriate to each individual’s wishes and care plan.
As to value for money; well, we don’t charge what the big groups charge and most of our customers only pay a very small proportion of the fee with the balance funded by the Council or the NHS in accordance with the regulations.
Our Head of Care is aware of your concerns and we will continue to support you in whatever way we can. Thank you again for your feedback.
