My mother-in-law was moved into this wonderful nursing home in August 2023. She was expected to pass within a few weeks. However, 8 months later she has improved significantly due to the care and attention given by each member of this community. Everyone smiles, takes their time to speak and looks after
my mother-in-law. She is fed, her whole welfare is monitored and an update is shared with her family.

Mom moved into Selly Wood House on 15th January 2024. She has been looked after with care, nursed, and bathed with complete professionalism.
When we visit we are welcomed with warmth and respect, our mom has been given 110% of attention and supervision.
Every member of staff from the kitchen, cleaning,
caring, and nursing have given Mom the very best of their skill. The management should be proud of all these people because we are.

My cousin is a very demanding resident and complains a lot, but all the experience I have had with staff has been positive. I feel she is being well looked after. She complains mainly about night staff, but as I say she is very demanding so I really don't know.

My mom was brought here at the end of August 2023. She was given three months life expectancy but continues to maintain stable six months on. All the staff are helpful, friendly and always appear to be fully engaged with each patient. My mum is encouraged to take part in the various activities.

As soon as I entered Selly Wood House Nursing Home in October 2023 when my husband became a resident, I had the impression it was a happy environment. The nurses and care workers are always very pleasant and helpful and always have a smile. The standard of care is excellent and so is the food. And I
would recommend this nursing home to everyone.

My mum moved to Selly Wood House in February 2021 after a stroke and with advanced dementia. At the time, she was transferred from the hospital on a palliative care pathway, with only days - weeks to live. Through the hard work, dedication and care of the staff, my mum pulled through and is still going
strong 2.5 years later.
My experience has been that the staff are incredibly caring, professional, and skilled at what they do, and my mum really responded positively to their care. She is nursed in bed and has to be fed, and it takes a great deal of patience to get her to eat and drink, as I can personally testify, but the staff are really patient and really good at coaxing her. They are always friendly and happy to give me an update on my mum, and they speak very affectionately about her. My mum is always clean and looks well cared for, and her room is always tidy and well-cleaned. As a family, we have been really pleased with the care my mum has received at Selly Wood House.

A warm and wonderful place, home from home. The standard of care is excellent by all the members of a fantastic team. The management lead and blend the team to perfection in every way. Nothing is too much trouble for each and every one of them. My family member has all her needs met, above and beyond.
I thank them all from the bottom of my heart; they make her smile every day. "It's priceless".

Selly Wood House Nursing Home has slowly transformed since 2021 when it was taken over by a new company.
I find the whole atmosphere calm, warm and professional. My mom has been at the home for 5 years, so I have seen some really great changes. My mum always looks well cared for and comfortable and
her room is always clean, neat and tidy. Staff are friendly and welcoming, and I find a general 'open door' policy from the manager.

My mother spent the last months of her life in Selly Wood House. She was treated with dignity and respect by the staff, who actually cared about the person in their care. As a family, we highly recommend this nursing home. The staff kept in touch through all stages of her care, and we never felt it
was too much trouble for them. A big thank you goes to everyone there for making a very sad time more bearable, knowing that she was in good hands.

I visited Selly Wood House Nursing Home in a professional capacity as a Paramedic. I must comment on several impressive aspects of what I viewed of this care facility. We were greeted by the lovely nursing team as well as an associate nursing practitioner.
The nursing practitioner was extremely professional,
knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. I was extremely impressed by his manor and professionalism as well as all the other staff.
All the residents seemed happy and content and received 5-star treatment.
The facilities around the home were modern and clean, and the home had a lovely homely feel to it. Although it is mostly always in sad circumstances, I look forward to future visits here.
Keep up the great work, guys.

My husband is receiving excellent care/nursing, above my expectations. He is treated with dignity, respect and understanding. From my point of view (I'm extremely fussy), my husband is receiving a positive experience from the care/nursing staff. The manager is very supportive of myself and my husband;
the admin staff are also very supportive. There is a lovely, warm, friendly and loving atmosphere in the home that has become my husband's home. He is now laughing and happy in this lovely environment.

My father spent the final six weeks of his life at Selly Wood House receiving end of life care. Despite the considerable pressures of delivering nursing home care with the Covid-19 pandemic and widespread staff shortages, the care he received was excellent. Staff were very caring and respectful, paid
great attention to small details that mattered to him, and very much related to him and cared for him as a person despite the advanced stage of his illness. My mother, visiting daily, and I also found the staff warm, welcoming and supportive. The facilities are not glamorous, but the environment is very clean and cheerful. This is a nursing home where they pay great attention to the things that really matter and where the staff really give of themselves to do their work well - we are very grateful to them and can warmly recommend Selly Wood House.

My husband and I moved my father-in-law into Selly Wood House for the last few weeks of his life. The care he received was wonderful. The staff were very respectful to a very proud elderly gentleman and looked after him during his last few weeks with loving care. My mother lived at Selly Wood House
for almost 11 years and loved and thrived in the family-like atmosphere which the experienced, professional and mostly long-serving nurses and carers generated. Having researched nursing homes for several of our family members, we believe Selly Wood to be the best in the Midlands and recommend it without any reservations.

My father was resident from December 2018 to October 2019. After a period of hospitalisation, Selly Wood House refused to readmit him.
We found that extremely disappointing: there was no material difference between his condition in December 2018 and when he was ready for discharge in October 2019.

The issue will be referred to the Care Commission.
Reply from Beverley Murrain, Registered Manager at Selly Wood House Nursing Home

Thank you for your feedback. We always act in the best interests of the resident, and as care providers, we have a duty of care to acknowledge when we are unable to meet the needs of an individual, we would be doing a disservice if we did not. We also understand that any decision resulting in a placement coming to an end is disappointing, our primary aim is to strive to meet the needs of individuals to the best of our ability.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.060)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.060) out of 10 for Selly Wood House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.631 for Selly Wood House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (54 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.631
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.429 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Selly Wood House Nursing Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.729
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
