  • Bartholamew Lodge Nursing Home, Wednesbury
Bartholamew Lodge Nursing Home is a warm, intimate nursing home in the heart of Wednesbury, providing nursing, residential, and specialist dementia care to up to 30 people. As a converted home rather than a purpose-built block, Bartholamew Lodge has a genuinely domestic feel that larger, institutional competitors simply cannot replicate.

Rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (May 2019), the home has a well-established reputation in Wednesbury and the wider Sandwell area for the quality of its clinical care and the warmth of its team. Bartholamew Lodge is part of the RDCP Care group, which provides strong governance, clinical oversight, and investment across the portfolio of homes.

With 22 of the 30 rooms offering private ensuite facilities, Bartholamew Lodge provides a level of personal privacy and dignity that many older converted homes cannot match. The small size of the home means every resident is known as an individual, care plans are genuinely personalised, and new residents settle in quickly because the home never feels overwhelming or anonymous.

For families in Wednesbury, Walsall, West Bromwich, and across the West Midlands who are looking for nursing or dementia care at a sensible cost, Bartholomew Lodge offers clinical quality and genuine warmth at fees significantly below those charged by the area's large, purpose-built competitors.

The team works closely with local GP surgeries and hospital discharge teams to ensure smooth, well-supported transitions into the home, and has particular expertise in supporting people in the later stages of dementia.

Dont judge a book by its cover, the home is outdated, but it's not what it looks like its the care given to their residents.
I can honestly say this home is excellent.
All the staff are friendly, what they deliver is genuine care, compassion and dignity.
There is daily interaction, so they dont just
have to sit in the chair all day doing nothing. Home cooked food on a daily basis and the home smells fresh unlike others. My mom only got to stay here for a short time before she passed but said she was happy here.
Reply from Petty Mhlanga, Manager at Bartholamew Lodge Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind review. It was a privilege to care for your mum during her stay with us. Although her time here was short, we were delighted to get to know her and support her during that period. Your lovely feedback means a great deal to our team, and we are grateful that you took the time to share your experience. We wish you and your family all the very best.

Our mother was only in Bartholamew Lodge for a short time.
She was treated with dignity, compassion and kindness from the moment she arrived until she passed away.
The staff showed immense patience and showed a genuine interest in her.
When she passed the staff showed dignity and respect and treated
her with the kindness she deserved.
We will be forever grateful to them during this difficult time.
We whole heartedly recommend Bartholamew Lodge to any family who are looking for a caring, respectful environment.
The staff and their manager are a credit to the health care profession and Bartholamew. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The manager will go above and beyond to help you and your relative and reassure you that they are safe and cared for.

The level of care that my nan's received whilst here was nothing short of amazing, they were respectful from the day she entered and continued to be even after my nan died whilst there. Her dignity and care were always a top priority for every member of staff there and this also extended to family members
who were visiting, staff knew us all by name and made sure our needs were also met whilst there, even offering hugs and emotional support whilst I felt overwhelmed. I truly cannot thank the outstanding staff and their care and compassion enough, they really are a superb team who deserve great recognition for the level of care that is shown at all times to the entire family and not just the patients in their care, it really does take a special person to work in a care home and Bartholamew Lodge Nursing Home showcased this every day. Thank you to you all.

All the staff were extremely kind, pleasant and helpful. You were made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The home itself was clean and fresh, nice, bright and airy. Mom-in-law was clean and dressed and taken out of her room and included in activities. She seemed to be well taken care
of. The thing that stood out the most was the staff seemed happy and this goes a long way to make it a good place to work in and live in.

My aunty has been a resident at Bartholomew Lodge now for one year. As a nurse of nineteen years and a Deputy Manager in a care home myself I am more than happy with the care provided to my aunt. She is always clean and well presented. She loves the food and all of the staff are very friendly and kind
towards her. Whenever there has been a problem this has been actioned swiftly. The building (although run down a little) is always clean, warm and smells nice. Do not let first appearances put you off placing your loved one into Bartholomew Lodge as the love and care they demonstrate towards their residents is lovely to see.

I am extremely happy with the care being provided to my uncle by all the staff at Bartholamew Lodge.
This home has given my uncle a life again; he is able to sit out in a chair, which he was unable to do previously, and all of his needs are met. Whenever I visit, he is content, clean and always looks
smart.
The staff are all friendly and make you feel welcome; the manager and nurses are approachable, and you can talk to them at any time.
The activities coordinator provides person-centred activities for all.
The building itself is always very clean and has a homely feel.
I would recommend Bartholamew Lodge to anyone seeking care for a loved one.
Thank you all!

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.539)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.539) out of 10 for Bartholamew Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.714 for Bartholamew Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (114 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 154 Ratings = 4.714
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bartholamew Lodge Nursing Home is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
