My Aunt is very happy here. The carers are very patient and kind, a good mix of young and maturer care workers. The management, clinical, domestic and admin staff all engage with the residents too. The entertainment lady Sue, is particularly friendly and always willing to assist with any task around the home, even those outside of her remit. Considering the majority of residents are dementia patients the bedrooms are homely and not at all clinical. Many other care homes state they offer dementia care but, Ashgate House truly does with skill and compassion.

Due to advanced dementia, Mum became a resident in August 2024. From the moment we were taken around to the unfortunate moment we said goodbye, the staff have been amazing. Dad visited Mum every day and the staff made him feel right at home. The care given to both mum (resident) and dad (visiting) was second to none. Each week was full of events and crafts so there was always something going on for those who wanted it, mum even had pedicures, nails done, hair done etc. The food was catered to her individual needs and Dad was served a meal too so they could eat together.

We couldn't have chosen anywhere better to care for our mum.

My husband was admitted to Ashgate in January, with Alzheimer's, am so pleased with the care he has received. The carers are excellent and have not only cared for my husband but the family too.

As a retired nurse I have quite a lot of insight into caring, I can recommend Ashgate House as genuinely having the needs of the residents as their prime focus.

Our mum came to Ashgate House Care Home on a end of life pathway. She was previously at another care facility who badly let her down in terms of meeting her needs. We were pleased she moved to Ashgate House for the last three weeks of her life. She was shown such high quality care and love and compassion. Not only did they take fantastic care of mum they also looked after us too. This included all the staff from nurses, carers, kitchen staff, domestic staff, activities staff and even the maintenance personnel. This is obviously a well run establishment with staff that are amazing and above all the most compassionate and helpful too. Nothing was too much troubleshoot!! What a difference from the other care home. Thank you all so much for making mums last week's comfortable and stress free. I would rate you Excellent.

As a health care professional I am delighted at the excellent care my father is receiving at Ashgate House. Areas that are outstanding are:
1) Food - high quality, care with presentation, plenty of it! Regular meals and snacks.

2) Care - care staff excellent, caring, providing dignified care with a smile. They know the residents as individuals and meet their personal needs. Nursing staff - attentive and clinically competent. Laundy staff and cleaners also give a personalised service with care. Excellent care with compassion throughout.

Ashgate House Care Home has provided care to my husband over the last two and a half years. The staff are always warm and caring and friendly to me. They encourage my input into my husband's care at all times. Having had a nursing background, I am over-sensitive to staff attitude toward carers and residents. the staff are always pleasant. The standard of care is high. My husband is happy and well cared for. If I have any issues or concerns I have always discussed with senior staff who have always been willing to address any issues. Lovely, caring atmosphere.

We came to see my relative and stayed for afternoon tea. It was a lovely relaxed event with a beautiful array of cakes and confectionary all decorated with fresh fruit and cream. The scones were delicious and my relative especially liked the fresh fruit.

One member of staff in particular was very attentive and the chef also came out to see the residents enjoying their cakes. All in all a lovely experience. We will come again for the afternoon tea!

Whenever we come to visit Mum the staff are always so lovely, warm and welcoming.
There is usually some activity or other happening and from what we've seen so far, the residents are cared for in a very calm and dignified way.

The 'extracurricular' stuff ie. hairdresser and chiropodist is also much appreciated.

I find plentiful staff who are very helpful. Their kindness is always there, especially to very awkward residents. They are available to deal with health and personal needs. Residents are pampered too with individual appetites. The surroundings within the home are cheerful and informative and staff engage with their mental and physical needs.

I am always greeted in a friendly manner when visiting the home. I always find my husband clean, nicely dressed and shaved and I can see for myself he is cared for by staff. Staff are also happy to share with me what kind of day my husband has had and should I need to I am able to check any aspect of the care records kept. Regular resident/family meetings also keep me up to date with what's happening in the home, feedback is encouraged. Finally, I just want to express my gratitude to all staff for what they do.

This home is under new management, the change in care standards is amazing, one of the best care teams they have had. The food on offer is varied and home cooked. The home is clean without any odours, which is difficult to maintain. Overall a really good home.

Well, where do I start? Please do not put your loved one in the sorry state of a care home. My brother-in-law has just passed away in Ashgate House. His wife, my sister is also in a care home and not well herself, so I dealt with things for her, and Ashgate House knew this but they never informed me of changes in his health, never let me know he was on the end of life, and to top it all of they have still not contacted me to tell me he has passed away last night, so his wife of thirty-four years got nothing. They couldn't care less and when you ring them they know nothing so please do not put your family in the joke of a care home.

As a care home, we are disappointed that you choose to express your views in this way when we have so many families who are happy with the care that we provide. We do take all concerns and complaints seriously and we do have processes in place where these can be formally addressed. Therefore we ask will you kindly contact Head Office and a Director will be in touch to discuss your concerns.

I am sending this review because I feel the excellent staff should be recognised for their compassion, and all their hard work, doing a very challenging, caring role. I cannot thank them enough for the wonderful support given to both my dear husband, during his illness and also myself, during his last weeks. I have nothing but the highest praise for Ashgate House and all the staff who work there tirelessly.
