After searching for a care home, my husband and I found the one on an unannounced visit. The staff were very friendly and showed us around without hesitation, the manager and senior nurse were especially helpful and gave good advice. Our dear friend was admitted and was looked after. He said it was
like a hotel, and loved his room and the care he received. Thank you all for your services.

Ownership of home changed Aug 25. Since then total lack of communication. No confirmation of monies held/spent on behalf of mum which I used to get monthly. Asked several times about this & Christmas activities being planned given it was Nov. I sent a number of emails to chase a response. Just received
one. As its 13th Dec, too late to attend events as already made other plans. On positive work being undertaken to improve home, though workmen/vans parking outside has meant road has been blocked & my mum has struggled to walk much further to my car. I was hopeful following take over & having spoken to staff that this was a positive move so I am waiting to see. There are challenges due to noise/drilling etc whilst work is ongoing which mum found annoying & room a little dirty but needs must, it would have been helpful for the new owners to give us details of planned works beforehand. The staff remain hardworking as ever and no complaints about care for mum.

My father has just moved into Abbey Court two weeks ago and we are delighted with how well he has settled in so far. Lesley was extremely helpful and made the whole process so much easier. The staff appear friendly and caring and very supportive. Dad has said the food has been lovely and he loves the
extra portions they always let him have.
Early days but definitely so far so good.
I would thoroughly recommend anyone who is apprehensive to visit here for their families care.

Mum has now been in Abbey Court for the last two years since she lost her mobility.
She has settled in well into her spacious room with all her needs being catered for and has made numerous friends with other residents.
The staff at the home are very caring and treat mum like their own mum and I
feel happy to leave her in their care. They listen and action any requests that I have.
Since the home was sold to Your Health in August 2025 we can see changes coming in to improve the home and the residents experience and I am looking forward to future changes in 2026 in the communal area's and bedrooms.

Before mum had to go into the home we looked at a few homes some did not smell to pleasant some did not seem very interested in showing us round but Abbey Court were welcoming and happy to show us the 2 rooms they had available. When we saw one of the rooms I would have moved in myself. Mum moved in
and was made welcome. The meals are very good we can visit whenever we like. The staff are a fantastic bunch and have plenty of time to interact with residents mum was very proud of her appearance and it's nice that they have a hair salon in the home. The Football team come and do exercises with the residents. It has recently been taken over by a new company who have invested in the infrastructure such as 3 new boilers new flooring and decorating. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home.

I have just completed 4 weeks of respite care at the Abbey Court Nursing Home in Derby and found the staff to be very hard-working while still retaining a cheerful demeanour. Their treatment of the residents was 1st class. Nothing was too much trouble for them and the way they made sure everyone felt
they were special was a pleasure to watch. They are a credit to the home and their job.

My mother came into the home in January in a rather disturbed state. It took her a few weeks to settle down but due to the exceptionally kind and caring response, she received when staff were dealing with her problems she has now settled happily. I visit regularly and never fail to be impressed by the
way the staff keep the place so clean and tidy. I have never once walked in and smelled wee! Something that cannot be said for other homes I have visited.
It is also a pleasure to go there and experience the joking and lighthearted attitude staff keep up with the residents, to make them laugh, and the care they give is second to none. When we only have to put the TV on to hear horror stories of people being mistreated in homes it is very reassuring to find places like Abbey Court still exist.
I would recommend Abbey Court to anyone as a home that puts people's health, safety and state of mind first.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.246)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.246) out of 10 for Abbey Court Nursing and Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.596 for Abbey Court Nursing and Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.596
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.65 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbey Court Nursing and Residential Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Home Manager Joined: 2023

I started my career in nursing as a student mental health nurse in 1988. Upon qualifying, I worked in all clinical areas of mental health, from elderly, rehabilitation, acute and perinatal care until I retired after many years. It was only a short while before I realised I missed my role as a nurse and returned to part-time care homes that specialised in dementia. It was not long before I found myself working full-time nurse, then Deputy manager and now Registered manager.

I love my role as Registered Manager, although this comes with challenges along the way, the rewards are countless. My goal is to provide a loving, caring forever home where our Residents are happy and feel safe, and a workplace that my team are proud to work at.
