Overall Experience

My husband entered Nightingales in April 2026, removed from a different home. The improvement we have seen in him has been remarkable. He is happy relaxed and more alive, this is without a doubt due to the care he has received. The staff are extremely kind, attentive and treat the residents with dignity. Having experienced a traumatic time in the previous home I would not hesitate to recommend Nightingales.

My husband transferred to Nightingales from another local care home. I worried that he may find it difficult to settle in and to be honest I was apprehensive for myself. My worries were unfounded as we were made so welcome by all the staff, carers and admin alike. My husband soon settled in and is now much happier. My grandson summed it up when he told me that it felt just like home.

Overall Experience
My mum suffers from advanced Alzheimer's disease and in February 2025 she moved to Nightingales, from a care home that was not providing the care she needed. My mum has complex behaviour and medical needs which require a lot of intervention. The staff who look after for mum are caring, compassionate, understanding and show great empathy. The support I have received in respect of my mum's care has been second to none especially when having to deal with the complexities of the many different organisations of the Health and Care sector.
My mum is still very mobile and enjoys being outside, so weather permitting she goes on supervised walk which is really beneficial to her health and well being.
The home has regular activities and entertainment which the residents enjoy.
I am kept fully up to date about any health or other issues and I also have access to the detailed observation notes.

I have regularly witnessed the care the staff provide for the residents and the fun they share.

I love the fact that my uncle thinks of Nightingales Nursing Home as his home. He is so settled there, which is amazing given his reluctance to move from his happy home. It is a pleasure to visit him, he is always happy, well looked after and well kept, while keeping his individual style. The staffing levels are amazing, as are the staff. The staff are always welcoming and know their clients, nothing is too much trouble for them, even when it's a time consuming task. The staff ensure everyone's nutritional needs and fluid intake are met. There is always a hot or cold drink and cake available in between meals (which my uncle loves). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the home to anyone, the decor maybe a little outdated but the care is excellent.

Overall experience with the home has been ok, but we have found that we aren't being informed about his medication if it has been changed or stopped. We would like to be informed in the future of any changes with medication, or care plan. We can't fault the carers that he has at present.

Majority of the staff were lovely although attention to detail could be better if client looked uncomfortable no one came to aid. Care at the end of life very good. Listened to family members re concerns. Bedrooms are in great need of being overhauled tatty + damaged furniture. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others. Staff always made us feel welcome + felt like friends in the end.

Dad has been resident since December 2023. He is incredibly well cared for, and dare I say thriving in the environment. Two years ago he was hospitalised and had a poor prognosis. With the the care he has received in this setting he is genuinely safe, happy, stimulated and part of a lovely community. I cannot thank the whole staff enough. The respect shown to residents shines through. Thank you so much for ensuring whatever time Dad has remaining it is in a great place

This is my first experience with a care home, so I don't have anything to compare. It was the manager's empathy, honesty and efficiency that swayed me into choosing Nightingales Nursing Home. All of the staff are friendly and appear to genuinely care. A suggestion would be to have names on the staff clothing/uniforms- whether velcro or stickers so that I don't feel rude if I can't recall someone's name.

Reply from Jo-Anne Porter, Home Manager at Nightingales Nursing Home

Thank you for such a lovely review. We aim to provide dignity in everything we do at Nightingales. We will certainly look into dementia-safe name badges moving forward as this is a very good idea. Thank you.

Carole HarrisonJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2023

I am a Registered Manager with over 20 years of experience in the social care sector. I have been at Nightingales since 2023. My passion is ensuring that older adults live their best possible life, creating a safe, warm and nurturing environment where every resident feels valued and respected. I take pride in leading and mentoring my team, watching them grow and develop, developing relationships with residents, families and professionals, promoting trust and well-being.

My vision is to have an Outstanding home whilst fulfilling Nightingale's Care's Promises and Values, which put our Residents at the heart of everything we do.

Amanda Simpson
Amanda SimpsonJob Title:Activity Co-ordinator

My name is Amanda Simpson and I am the activity coordinator at Nightingales Nursing Home. I worked in a children’s nursery for nearly 25 years which I thoroughly enjoyed but I got made redundant and fancied a career change as I have a love for the elderly and had nearly 25 years of experience of activities I thought this was the job for me.

I enjoy my job so much we play games and create crafts to decorate our home I’m always thinking of new ideas for us to do. I plan parties, entertainment and trips out. I feel I get something out of it as much as the residents do, I find it so rewarding if I can make a resident smile I know I’ve made their day.

I welcome any suggestions and am always looking for new ideas.
