Fairwinds is a specialist nurse-led home for adults with complex mental health needs. Fairwinds build care and activity plans around the person, not the condition. They support and encourage people to be happy, fulfilled and involved in their care.
Making every day better is about achieving the best possible outcomes, so Fairwinds identify achievable goals and outcomes with residents, their families and relevant professionals.
Service users at Fairwinds live in one of two ten-bed units, Darwin and Partridge. Each unit has a dining room and lounge. Every bedroom has an accessible en-suite bathroom, TV and telephone points and can be decorated to suit personal tastes.
A varied restaurant style dining menu is developed with service users at regular food forums to ensure personal preferences and condition-specific dietary requirements are catered for. In addition to a standard menu, service users can request meals from a cafe-style menu. A therapy kitchen is available for individuals to make their own drinks and snacks.
Fairwinds offers extended pathways of care for those who have met rehabilitation goals and are looking to return gradually to life in the community. Two houses, each with two bedrooms, allow people to live independently while still accessing care and support when needed. These services are also ideal for those with progressive conditions who can still live independently but may require future care.
Social activities, leisure interests and hobbies are all part of a healthy, balanced life. Activity staff and service users work together to create meaningful and fun plans. As well as group activities, staff facilitate individual hobbies and interests and, where appropriate, support to access education and volunteering. This helps develop confidence, increase independence and achieve personal goals. This might include going to the gym, cycling, walking or learning bus routes.
