Since moving into Hazel Bank, my husband has settled in well, is very happy and comfortable there.
From my perspective, the staff are brilliant, all very welcoming & good at their jobs.
They seem like good teams led by good management. Nothing is too much trouble.
I find the atmosphere in the home
is quite like home, with all the residents seeming very happy & well cared for.

Always a professional service staff always positioned carefully around the rooms and different areas giving me a sense of safety for mum. Everyone has a smile on their face no matter what the situation and staff clearly communicate with one another helping not just the residents but one another. The
whole place smells fresh unlike other homes I've visited making me happy that my mum is again cared for. All residents are cleanly and appropriately dressed every time I've been in. Staff also are attentive to none residents as well when visiting. The management are fabulous very warm welcoming and knowledgeable in their own role as well as an individual in their care. They are exceptionally welcoming and helpful with anything you ask. The overall feeling is amazing when you visit this home; it's an old building but they so make it work in every aspect. Thank you to all the hardworking staff who clearly work in this home because they care.

All staff were very nice, friendly and helpful, but I do feel they are very stretched in their work and required to do too much, which leaves some important things not done. Residents sometimes appear unkempt and in unclean clothes. Many parts of the home are dirty, but again, probably down to not enough
staff. The manager is very approachable and helpful, and listens to concerns.

My dad has been at Hazel Bank Nursing Home since December 2024, I think it is a great place!
My dad, who has dementia, has settled in very well and has made a couple of friends. He likes it there, I have made the following observations:
* it is a welcoming home for visitors and feels like a 'family'
home
* visitors are always made welcome at any time
* the staff are always informal and helpful
* they are highly informative with me and highly attentive to my dad's needs such as him being a high risk of falling
* The manager, is also very friendly and professional

My Dad is in a safe and pleasant environment now, staff are caring and warm and I am reassured he is there, I cannot fault the care or environment. I thought he might not enjoy being in a home but he seems to be thriving, the staff are looking after him very well.

Very welcoming nursing home to relatives, superb nursing staff, kitchen staff and cleaning/laundry staff. Food is exceptionally nutritional, delicious and plentiful. Management and admin staff take notes of Dad's requirements and needs updating care plans as and when, nothing is ever too much, staff
are caring and hardworking. We are overly delighted with the exceptional care and dignity shown to my father. Thank you Hazel Bank Nursing Home.

As a retired qualified Army nurse, I love that getting into this home is monitored and locked - as no resident can go outside wondering unaided, thus making it super safe.
The staff are lovely and friendly and all the residents seem happy with their environment in the day rooms and dining room.
I
have found the home to be very clean on my numerous visits and other relatives that I have met and talked to seem happy too

My sister is well looked after, the staff are caring. I visit over the lunchtime period and the staff provided a lunch on every occasion which is much appreciated. One memorable event was Yorkshire day, which was well organised, great entertainment. Also my sister's birthday was celebrated with a cake
made by the chef. All in all she is well looked after.

CQC and other organisations are totally toothless - weak management - previous manager at Hazel Bank Nursing Home excellent. The manager is weak and toothless and arrogant - surly care assistants. Like getting in and out Fort Knox. The residents and anyone associated with them have no rights to raise
concerns and complaints - not very welcoming as a visitor.
Problems with rodents - dirty toilets - a visitor toilet that used to be accessible but now has a lock with a number so visitors no longer have access to use it.
A care assistant came into my sister's room and started complaining to my sister, asked her to leave. Very unprofessional and the only home that does this sort of thing. Poorly trained staff and only an in-house complaint procedure so nothing would be done. Wouldn't recommend this place at all so please avoid sending any one you here, its a risk.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.142)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.142) out of 10 for Hazel Bank Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.242 for Hazel Bank Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 128 Ratings = 4.242
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hazel Bank Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
