My aunt moved into Clayton House in March and the staff could not have been more helpful. There has been a major refurbishment of the facilities and it is now a beautiful, light and airy space with carefully thought out layouts and decorations.
All the staff I have encountered from management to care staff, admin support to laundry staff and medical staff have all been professional and welcoming.

Work is still ongoing and the staff are working extremely hard to deliver the vision for the benefit of their residents.

Please think very carefully before putting a loved on in the care of this carehome
I have submitted a formal complaint and had a reply
Mum was in the same clothes for three days
Mum and four others were stuck in the lift and three of the residents slept all night in the lounge only found out about this from another resident, apparently mum was happy about this so that's Ok
My thought on this is if there is a fire how would they get the residents down stairs, the reply in my complaint was they have evacuation chairs
But what I will never forgive is that mum went in a ambulance to hospital at 2.30 I got a phone call at 4.30 as they were apparently too busy to call me when I got to the hospital we were taken to the relatives room mum died a few days later
The day after I received a call to say mum was no longer a resident and the room needed clearing

Saw the manager and she never offered any condolences no compassion at all

Reply from Andrew Wood, Director at Clayton House Care Home

We are deeply sorry to read your thoughts on your and, most importantly, for the loss of your mum. Please accept our sincere condolences to you and your family. When visiting today, the communal toilet was covered in faeces. My grandmother's sheet had dried faeces and food on it. Despite clear requests not to switch her personal mini fridge off it had been switched off yet again. She currently has a chest infection yet her bed had not been raised adequately to aid easier breathing

Up to this month I have had nothing whatsoever dealings with care homes. These are just observations.
Rooms are drab, no pictures on the walls, no comfortable chairs.

My sister has declined while in - no motivation. Sitting on corridors does not encourage converstion with other residents, difficult for visitors. My sister was upset by a resident while sitting on corridor, a resident advised us, reported to carer, but didn't think taken seriously - this helped with her decline.

My friend of over 40 years resides at Aden House and what a wonderful place. We were apprehensive when choosing a home for our friend and she was originally for respite, I can proudly say that this is her forever home and she is extremely content at Aden House. The new manager has really made a difference and the home feels and looks like a home now. The staff take pride in what they do and the manager leads by example and is extremely approachable. I would definitely recommend.

My husband, diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2018, has been a resident at Aden House Care Home since December 2023. Aden House has a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. All staff are friendly, caring and hardworking. A big thank you to everyone who works at the Home for making what is a difficult time in our lives, a happy one. I was shown around the home by the manager and given a choice of 3 vacant rooms for my husband who could not make the visit as he was sleeping, having advanced cancer. I was impressed by the light airiness of the home, by the staff who all greeted me and were cheerful and the cleanliness. There was a choice of 3 lounges plus a conservatory and the residents or visitors could go out into the garden to sit on several benches/eating arrangements. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. I was able to spend more time with my husband than I had at home, as I had to do everything there. I had no support being the sole carer. My husband cooperated better with Aden House staff and I felt from the outset he was in loving hands and in a loving atmosphere. The management and the nurse had a very good grasp of his complex medication regime and this gave me confidence that he would take the medication as prescribed which was not always the case at home.

The staff team are lovely, my friend has resided in Aden House for a few months and I visit on Wednesdays to see them. The receptionist is ever so kind and always gives me a cup of tea to enjoy, it reminds me of when I visited him at home we have a good catch up and I enjoy it every time.

It's comforting to know he's greatly cared for. Thank you.

The new manager of Aden House has moved mountains to improve the home. Changes to environment and cleanliness with in-house cafe and music in the foyer. Improvements to processes, documentation, like daily records are presented without question, such basics making a big difference. Care and consideration for residents has surpassed any expectation, so far removed from the previous diabolical state, it’s not comparable. If I request anything, it feels like Mum is the only resident, nothing is ever too much, a testament to the dedication given. We feel secure not only Mum's needs are met but Dad's needs too as a daily visitor. They maintain integrity, honesty, professionalism and moreover, the human element of what makes us all.
Above all, I will say it was diabolical, Mum was neglected and I contacted CQC. But now is succeeding, progressing and regaining trust of families.

The word trust is so small but means such a great deal. Distrust is a very hard to change but they have done just that.

There was a report on Aden House in the newspaper, stating that the home is unclean and unsafe. This might have been in early 2023 or before but it is definitely not now. I cannot fault Aden House at all. My wife has Alzheimer's and I visit her every day. My carer says she is lucky to be a resident there.

My husband has been in respite for one week to give me a break. The staff are wonderful, they have all looked after my husband very well, he had wanted to come home a few times and they have diverted him. It's the first time I have put him in a home and I can say it's really lovely in Aden House Care Home, I will use it again. Everyone has been lovely, when I phone up they are great. I'm so grateful to have somewhere close.

All the residents on the dementia unit are dirty, miserable, and covered in cuts, bruises and bandages. Rooms are dirty, empty and cold, the floors and walls are constantly sticky and covered in food, and carers don’t bother cleaning up spills despite the slip hazards. Residents walk around half-naked or in soiled clothing. Only one carer on the dementia unit bothers to bath/shower them so they smell and end up looking dishevelled 90% of the time. I have never seen a single carer using proper moving and handling techniques to assist the residents. The residents are treated like naughty children. The carers put in no effort to connect with and support the clients. I have a folder with 132 pictures of injuries my relative has sustained during the last 3 months at Aden House care home. This is not how a care home should be run.

My dad passed away 12 months ago which due to mum having dementia meant I had to put mum into a care home something I promised mum I would never do. But it ended up being the best place for her, never thought I would see her so happy, she loves it and this is down to the wonderful caring staff who are doing an amazing job looking after her. Knowing she’s happy and being well looked after means everything to me and I can’t thank them enough.

My grandma was living here from the beginning of lockdown due to a decline in health and hospital admission. Since admission, my grandma declined further in health and well-being, which subsequently led to further hospital admissions which were worrying during a pandemic. My grandma went in for respite however that was never achieved and it’s with regret she sadly passed away. Despite government guidance of compassionate visits in end of life care, I was myself denied these, on one occasion I was told that a meal takes priority over this visit. Within a few hours of this, my grandma passed away. Following a complaint, I have had no acknowledgement from the company or home manager. No condolence card or wishes. Would not suggest this home to anyone.
