Thornhill Care Home

Since my dad has been in Thornhill, we fell that the staff are particularly efficient when there's a concern with my dad. All staff are reassuring when we ask questions. They are very friendly. The kitchen staff always offer hospitality and know my dad's needs and go beyond. To care for all of us. Excellent.

My mum has been here for two and a half years and has received excellent care. All the staff are friendly and willing to chat about my mum's care and needs. A nice homely feel to the care home and the staff are good at dealing with my mum who can be stubborn and awkward at times. She is reluctant to join in the activities but the staff are good at gently encouraging her. The meals are good and I speak from one who knows having eaten meals when visiting my mum.

My sister says "very professional but sometimes slow at dealing with problems although they are very busy at times. Times when waiting to go for a walkabout, not always able to do so".

Thornhill Care Home is a very compassionate place of dwelling. I and my family are completely satisfied with the quality of care my father receives and are very grateful.

My experience so far has been pleasant. The staff are always helpful and polite and just overall welcoming. Every time I visit my grandma, she looks clean and comfortable. I am happy with her care so far and feel a little at ease knowing the staff I have come across are nice.

My dad could not have been better cared for towards the end of his life. Many thanks to all the carers, they all made a huge difference, both to us and my dad.

At a very difficult time, it was comforting to know that the care she was given helped us greatly until she sadly passed away.

Also, the concern and support given to us the relatives was very much appreciated.

The food is good plus a nice cup of tea. Clean and comfortable.

When my husband was admitted, the staff put me at ease as it was a very traumatic experience for myself and family.

The first room I was shown to had very old fashioned furniture and appeared dingy. It (no. 24) needs refurbishing. I was offered next door, with much better furniture and pleasant. Staff were mainly pleasant and all fulfilled all requests (except for one v unpleasant kitchen employee who was cross when I expected my tea and toast to come sooner than 1 1/4 hours after I had ordered it. This was immediately remedied when I spoke to a senior carer about it). Overall the facilities and service are good, except that when one buzzes for help it is quite often a long time before anyone comes (15 minutes not unexceptional) and take-over times (morning and evening) there often seems to be no help available for 30 minutes.

When my wife arrived here she was in the grip of a delirium but the staff gradually got her out of it with kindness and she is now fully rational and back to her old self.

The staff are very good and work extremely hard to ensure my father has the best possible care. My only concern is there are not enough cleaners employed and the level of cleaning is poor.
