Overall Experience

My friend has been living at The Cottage for a few months now and after a bumpy start due to giving up her home and a long stay in hospital. She has now settled in well. Managers are hands-on, and nothing is too much trouble. Staff are fantastic, work so hard. Chef is also attentive to my friend's dietary needs. The cleaner is first class, always on the go. Grounds are also fantastic.

From first viewing The Cottage, meeting with the team, and subsequently my father moving in and the ongoing care, the service has been exemplary, with a wonderful friendly atmosphere.

It has quickly become a homely place for my father.

Overall Experience

The staff at the home are all very friendly, helpful and they work hard. However, in my opinion, there are not enough staff on each shift. This is especially a problem at weekends, when the main office is empty. It sometimes takes a long time to get in and out of the home and on one occasion a family member could not gain access and had to return home and come back later on. This was because the staff were very busy attending to the residents and was in no way their fault. The layout of the care home is very good.

Thank you for the review, we apologise it took some time to open the door, staff were busy attending to our residents, i have spoken with the staff who expressed it was a very busy weekend which was out of the normal pattern, staffing levels are continually reviewed and we are recruiting for...

"My aim is simple – to create a home where every resident feels safe, valued and truly at home."

As Registered Manager of The Cottage Care Home, I feel incredibly proud to lead a team that shares the same passion for providing exceptional care and creating meaningful relationships with our residents and their families.

I've worked in the care sector for 28 years, beginning my career as a junior care assistant before progressing through to a fully trained care assistant, then being promoted to Senior Care Assistant following my new qualifications being achieved, then I became a Deputy Manager; this was in one home where I started out when I was just 18 years of age. I have been very fortunate in my career as the three different homes where I have worked have only been three different homes that I have been supported, encouraged, and educated to be where I am today.

I joined The Cottage in October 2025 as the Deputy Manager before becoming Registered Manager in July 2026 and have loved seeing the home grow into the beautiful residential community it is today following its refurbishment.

One of my proudest achievements has been leading the home through its recent transformation. Following our Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) inspection in April 2026, I was incredibly proud that The Cottage achieved a 'Good' rating across every inspection area, recognising the dedication, compassion and hard work shown by the whole team every single day.

I feel a career in care chose me because I have met some extraordinary people who showed me just how good working in a care setting can be and how rewarding I would find it.

One thing that always makes me smile is the variety of people I have met and the random conversations that I will have in a day about topics I never thought I would talk about. The stories I have heard over the years still make me smile when I think back.

One thing that sums up why I love working at The Cottage is that every single day I learn something new about someone and at times about myself.

I hold an NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care and a Level 5 QCF in Leadership and Management, plus a multitude of other qualifications, and enjoy continuing to learn and develop both myself and my team.

Away from work, you'll usually find me in my newly acquired but very old campervan, which I am travelling around the country in place by place. I have seen a variety of places and love to have recommendations from people.

No two days are ever the same… and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

My names Amy and I have the best job in the house!

Every day is about bringing smiles, laughter and new experiences to our residents! Whether we’re baking cakes, planting flowers, enjoying live entertainment, celebrating birthdays, heading out on trips or simply sharing stories over a cup of tea, I love being able to help make every day special.

I’ve worked at The Cottage since May 2026 and have been working in care and wellbeing for 4 years.

A few things about me…

Why I love working in care

As I said, no two days are ever the same; each day opens the door to new adventures and memories. Making bonds and getting to know amazing people and hearing the stories of their life.

My favourite activity to organise

Anything that encourages getting a little messy: painting, gardening and arts and crafts. Can’t have a little fun without a little mess.

The thing that makes me smile the most

Seeing genuine happiness and smiles from our residents makes my day all that much better.

A memorable resident moment

Dancing and singing with a lovely lady whilst we had live entertainment, laughter and smiles all around. A memory I’ll treasure.

Qualifications

Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care

When I’m not at work you’ll find me…

You’ll either catch me with my nose in a book or with my partner,4 cats and dog.

At The Cottage we believe life should be full of fun, friendship and laughter. Every resident is unique, so I love creating activities that reflect their personalities, interests and life stories. Seeing someone try something new, rediscover an old hobby or simply share a big smile makes every day worthwhile.
