I had room number 16 reserved for my mum last year. 2024. We had visited the home and it was beautiful , very modern, well thought out. The manager was so excited and enthusiastic for the home to open. She had amazing ideas for the home. She had chosen all the furnishings etc . Unfortunately my mum
passed away 11 August'24 prior to the home opening. We voluntered in March 2025 to help to do activities with the residents. We found: Poor management and organization, especially at meal times and toileting times. Severe staff shortages and most staff spoke very little English making it difficult to communicate to the residents. Very little activity funding. I was relieved my mum never went there. Rosewood you have a beautiful home that needs proper funding and management. The previous manager was a HUGE loss. You need to act now, if the home closes you deserve it!

We moved my mum from here a few weeks ago. She was left in bed most days. Food was put in front of her and left then later taken away as she had dementia and mostly it never occurred to her to eat it. The staff turnover was constant so she had different carers every week. Her clothes were ruined by
the laundry and often lost even though labelled. She often was wearing someone else's clothes. Her nails were never cut. She often smelled of urine or worse and when we asked for someone to clean or toilet her they were always short staffed. The home looks nice but it's an awful place. She is now at another home which is much better run.
Reply from The Cottage, Manager at The Cottage Nursing HomeThank you for your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear that your mum's experience with us did not meet expectations. The concerns you've raised-about personal care, meal support, staffing, and laundry-are deeply troubling and not reflective of the standards we strive for.We take this seriously and are reviewing these issues internally. If you're open to it, we'd appreciate the chance to speak further and learn more. Please feel free to contact us directly on 01352 250228.

This is a terrible home, all activities of daily living very very poor. My friend now has no quality to her life. Always tearful and has moved in an independent 92 year old, now frail vulnerable.. If I can help 1 elderly person don't move into this home.

Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
There are insufficient staff to meet the resident's needs. There is a very high turnover of staff which is most unsettling to an elderly person, who needs intimate care. Everything is late - getting up, lunch, etc. My sister and father were stuck in the lift for 5 mins and no one answered the alarm.
I wish we had put him elsewhere.

This is the most amazing place. The staff are always helping patients with care, friendliness and patience. They informed me promptly of any issues and maintained a presence at my Uncle's bed during his last hours. The organisation, staff training , Leadership and Management are excellent, the standard
is set and maintained by the owner. My Uncle was always well presented whenever I called to see him.
He required feeding, this was done with patience and cheerfulness. The premises are outstanding, very clean and bright, with lovely views and gardens.
I was very concerned last year when faced with the task of finding a Nursing Home where he would be looked after well, I was so pleased I found The Cottage and felt fortunate that I was able to secure a place.
Thank you to the owner and all his staff, I am extremely grateful for all they did to make my Uncle's last year comfortable and peaceful.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 2.083 for The Cottage Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (2 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (26 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 2.083
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 0 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Cottage Nursing Home is based on 0 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) =
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4. 0 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.4 = 0
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
