Hillside Care Home is a friendly, medium sized home situated in the centre of Swansea overlooking St James Park and the distant sea. The home itself is a Grade II Listed building that combines the character of the traditional with the benefits that new, state of the art facilities bring.

The provider has recently completed a ÂŁ2.5m upgrade to the home, adding numerous lounges and resident areas. For example, the Sea Sky Lounge has far reaching views over the bay whilst the Orangey feels more cosy and overlooks the Secret Garden. Residents have their own Activities Room / Cinema, Hair Salon and there are fully accessible gardens / courtyards on every level.

In 2012 Hillside became the first care home in the whole of Wales to be registered as an Eden Alternative home (see www.eden-alternative.co.uk/). This recognised that the entire team focuses on the quality of life that individuals’ experience. There are lots of trips using a large mini-bus, ongoing activities and the environment itself is homely with lots of pets, plants and pictures throughout.

Please visit the website for more information or better still, pop in and have a look around, you’re welcome any time.

My husband has been at Hillside for 7 months and has settled in well. The first few weeks were the most difficult, but the staff were always ready to chat and lend sympathetic ears. I am most impressed by the way each resident is treated as a unique individual, every effort is made to accept and accommodate,
little quirks and personal preferences. Overall, our family is very happy that we chose Hillside for my husband.

Very happy with the care of my mum who has been at Hillside since earlier this year. The staff always care and have warmth towards her. The food is good, lots of activities and a homely atmosphere. Would fully recommend the home.

Mam has been at Hillside Care Home for five years and feels part of the family here. She is fond of the carers and she has become special to them. Kindness is so important and we have experienced that here. Any queries about her care have been listened to and acted upon by management.

My wife and I have been deeply impressed and totally delighted by the quality and professionalism of the care my father-in-law has received at Hillside Care Home. The staff are highly-trained, personally-attentive, friendly, respectful and genuinely caring when our loved one has experienced challenges
or medical complications. The level of nursing care has been exemplary. We actually love visiting this home.

From the day Mum joined Hillside Care Home, she has been cared for to an exceptional standard. She has a lovely bedroom, there is a large sitting area and lots of smaller more private areas including several gardens. The food is lovely, and the entertainment manager keeps every day full of activities
and fun. All the carers and staff are approachable and lovely. Hillside locked down early for Covid, obtained lots of PPE, created an isolation procedure and brought several oxygen concentrators; exceptional.

I'm very impressed with everything. Especially the great care and planning that has kept the home free of Coronavirus. It has been most thorough and thoughtful. The video app is great so that we feel in touch with our relatives even though we haven’t been able to visit.

Hillside is a very well managed home. During the current lockdown, the management team have done a superb job of managing and keeping relatives informed of current situations. It is very reassuring to know that our loved ones are being so well looked after. The majority of staff do over and above, and
I am always greeted and made welcome during normal visiting. I visit regularly (4/5 times weekly - not during lockdown though!) so feel able to give an honest opinion.

Our mum was admitted to Hillside about 3-4 weeks before lockdown. We were impressed with the home during that period, but their response concerning the virus has been exemplary. They shut down earlier than the Government guidelines, have set up a facetime app, sent out regular newsletters which have
been very thorough and carried out a survey on peoples thoughts of how best to open up again. This will now be extended to June 18th and reviewed again with our input. First-class!

My mother has been a resident at Hillside for a number of years now and has received excellent care. During the Coronavirus outbreak, the home has acted professionally to ensure that their residents have been cared, looked after and protected as much as possible from Covid-19.
The home has been updating
on social media of all the activities that have occurred, with lots of photographs, and it been great for families to see their loved ones on a regular basis!
Families have also been kept updated on a regular basis during the Coronavirus pandemic, and also involved in their opinions as to possibly the ease of restrictions.
I would not hesitate in recommending Hillside.

My mother has now been at Hillside Care Home for 2 months, she appears happy with the service provided and has made no complaints to me. The staff appear very understanding of the problems resulting from her dementia and inability to move without assistance. They also dealt with an outstanding medical
problem my mother had when she first arrived very professionally. Overall the service provided appears excellent and I would recommend Hillside as a care provider.

My mother has been at Hillside since December 2016. The care she has received has been of an excellent standard by all staff members. They are all very approachable and helpful if I have any questions regarding my mother's care.
My mother's rooms us well decorated and very roomy. Also, the entertainment
in the afternoons is very interesting.
The choice of food is very good and I know that my mother enjoys it.
Overall I think Hillside is a very good choice of care home and I know my mother is well looked after here.
We chose this on a recommendation from a friend and I will recommend it also.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (8.005)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (8.005) out of 10 for Hillside Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.708 for Hillside Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (17 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.708
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.297 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillside Care Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.6 = 0.172
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
