  • The Fields Care Home, Newport
The Fields Care Home is an independently-run care home which strives to provide a rich quality of life, based on individual service user’s needs and wishes.

The Fields Care Home can be found on the west side of Newport in the area known as Ridgeway. It is within walking distance of Newport centre, the railway station and the M4 and has good bus links to the centre and local residential areas.

The Fields cares for service users across the area from Newport, Cardiff, Caerphilly, Torfaen and Monmouth. Specific contracts are agreed with different commissioners, depending on the individual needs and wishes of the service user.

The home has two homely comfortable communal lounges and a conservatory, where residents are encouraged to spend their days as they wish.

The home is predominantly a single-bedroomed home but does have a handful of double bedrooms, to suit those residents that enjoy closer companionship and couples wishing to remain together.

The home has showers, wet rooms and bathrooms on each corridor within easy access of bedrooms. Dignity and privacy is respected at all times by the staff. The care home will provide a bedroom furniture suite in each bedroom and service users are encouraged to bring in their own possessions to personalise their bedroom and make the room feel like a personal retreat for peace and quiet.

The care home accepts all genders, of 55-years-old and over, without discrimination. Staff respect all cultures, backgrounds and the lifestyles of all residents. It provides long and short term, palliative and respite care for residents living in the community. Whilst the home is privately owned you may be entitled to have your care paid for by your local authority or NHS Trust.

Feel free to drop in or call. One of the care staff can show you around the home. The Fields is registered by CIW to provide nursing and residential care.

My father receives good care and attention. The food they serve is very good and has good options. The staff always keep us informed of any issues with Dad.
The care given is good but it would be even better if they had a few more activities for the residents. The home is full and it would be good
if they had a family room where you could take family and residents rather than visit in the lounge. But overall the family and myself are very happy with the care given to Dad.

During my mother's stay at The Fields Nursing Home, Mam was treated with kindness, excellent care and consideration.
All the staff went out of their way to make her last months happy and comfortable.

My husband has been at The Fields for over a year and I find that the home is very caring, spotlessly clean and serves excellent meals. I know that my husband has been quite challenging at times and I feel very comfortable speaking to the nurses about this as they are very professional.

When my father first came into this home he was very thin and did not eat his food.
He has been here since December and now he eats all his food and he has put on weight. He looks much better now. All the staff are very kind and they look after my father very well. I cannot find any fault in this
home.

My husband has been at The Fields Care Home since September 2016. He took some time to "settle in" but the staff persevered and he is now quite content but does become agitated from time to time. I find the staff to be kind, considerate and professional. The home is very clean and has no unpleasant
odour which I know some homes have. The meals are excellent and my husband always enjoys his food. I cannot speak too highly of The Fields Care Home.

The Fields Care Home has been home to my mother for the last 8 years. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Residents are well cared for. There is a homely and relaxed atmosphere. Relatives are always welcomed by staff. I am able to feel assured that my mother's needs will always be well met. Caring, hardworking
and friendly staff give this home a good name.

This care home is superb. The staff are friendly and helpful. The place is always clean and tidy. Carers sit with residents if they have no visitors. They make visitors very welcome and always offer a cup of tea. They are also medically equipped for all eventualities. I recommend this establishment
very highly.

Should have done this a long time ago sorry to have left it so long. My mother has been in this nursing home for almost 5 years now she has the best care possible I would like to thank all the staff for the kindness and care thy give her. There dedication to looking after all the residents is second
to none. With the bad reviews some nursing homes have had I am happy to recommend The Fields to anyone who has the unpleasant task to find a home for a loved one. This home is definitely five star and I would like to thank everyone involved in the care of my mother.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.651)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.651) out of 10 for The Fields Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.688 for The Fields Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.688
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.963 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Fields Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.8 = 0.588
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
