I am concerned regarding the amount of staff who are leaving. There seems to be more bank staff than regular staff.
There does not seem to be much to do for the residents, apart from sit in the TV Room from morning to night.
Reply from Clare Cogan Turner, Communications at Alexander HouseThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand how important it is for residents to have consistency and plenty of meaningful activities to enjoy. A new Home Manager has recently joined Alexander House and is focusing on strengthening the team and enriching daily life within the home. We're committed to creating a warm, engaging environment where residents can feel happy and well supported. Please don't hesitate to contact the Manager directly to discuss your concerns as we'd really value the opportunity to talk with you in more detail.

I am very happy with my brother's care. He has been in Alexander House for 1 year now. But over the last few weeks, I see a difference in him, he is very down and depressed. My opinion is there is no continuity of staff and service users aren't getting a chance to get to know and trust staff. Also not
enough activities to stop them getting bored. I strongly feel if there were more staff more time could be spent with service users.
Reply from Clare Cogan Turner, Communications at Alexander HouseThank you for sharing your thoughts about your brother's care. We're pleased to hear that you've been happy overall with the support he's received during his time at Alexander House, however, we're sorry to hear about your recent concerns. We do understand how important consistency and meaningful engagement are for residents and we have a new Service Manager in post who is working closely with the team to strengthen staffing and enhance the activities programme. Please do get in touch with the Manager directly so we can look at how best to continue supporting your brother and ensure he is settled and content.

I cannot fault the care and support of the staff that work daily with my mum, they have always treated my mum with the upmost dignity and that is difficult sometimes as my mum is not happy in clothes.
The staff try to include my mum in all activities even though she is bedbound most of the time.
I
have to commend the kitchen staff on their food it is totally wonderful and they can't do enough to help and keep my mum happy.

Staff not trained in dementia. Manager unapproachable and unfriendly. My dad was not properly cared for, often found hungry and unshaven and unsafe, and very scruffy when he likes to be clean and smart. No activities or well-being. A day at Alexander House is a very sad long boring day for the residents.
Food awful, no protein. Encouraged to stay in own bedroom and not socialise, eat in the bedroom too. Mostly overseas untrained agency staff who ask my mother and I to assist with my father's personal care and manoeuvring him! Could not recommend at all! Scores Weak with Care Inspectorate. Cannot see this place ever improving. No duty manager either. A sinking ship. Don't be fooled by the appearance of the lovely building and large rooms, it's what goes on inside that matters. Trying to move my Dad urgently.

I have a relative in Alexander House.
We had some initial issues which we discussed with the former manager. Unfortunately, these were never addressed although promises were made. Since the new manager arrived there's been a marked improvement. Staff shortages are being addressed by recruitment of
permanent staff. She actively encourages residents and families questions or suggestions. She has made improvements within the home, new carpets throughout and re-arranged seats in lounges to look more inviting. Meals are presented to residents on small plates so they can make their choice. Other improvements have also been made. Staff continue to increase their skills on various training courses. Staff are kind and caring, treating residents with dignity and respect. Communication is good, informing us of any issues.
Overall our experience of Alexander House has been good. I am confident that my family member is being cared for appropriately and is in a safe place.

My friend and I asked if a little afternoon tea could be arranged to celebrate our friend's birthday, who at 88-years of age, is a resident at Alexander House. We were overwhelmed by what we were served; a high-class restaurant could not have done better. Everything is prepared in the kitchen and beautifully
presented. The staff were wonderful, making sure we were looked after in a very friendly way. It made our friend's birthday very special, and it was a day we won't forget. Thank you, Alexander House.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.863)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.863) out of 10 for Alexander House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.388 for Alexander House is calculated as follows: ( (48 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 80 Ratings = 4.388
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.475 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alexander House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.875
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
