Had family up to see Mum and sat outside in the garden, the weather was very nice. The staff was more than happy to help Mum with her meal. The staff offered drinks for us and the kids, really friendly and helpful. The kids enjoyed their experience seeing Gran for the first time since she moved. Very
happy and happy and friendly staff. Can't fault anyone.

My father has been a resident for the past 17 months and has received the very best of care that can be provided. We receive telephone updates if we are unable to visit for a lengthy period. Overall, we are very satisfied with his care package and cannot thank all the staff for their dedication and
professionalism. Thank you.

Neighbours and friends visiting were put off by scruffy gutters, the untended courtyard and pre-developed land on the road to the care home, but I think this is very daft snobbishness! The care is great and the team of carers, especially the younger women and men, are clearly supporting each other to
stay cool in frequently stressful situations and are always kind to my mum. The older members of the staff team seem to get more frustrated and attached to particular outcomes, but I am glad they are well outnumbered!

From the start, the manager and her staff were extremely professional, informative, caring and proactive. Their communication with me regarding my father has been excellent, and at my visits, there has always been a lovely 'banter' and an emphasis on respecting his wishes and dignity. Due to COVID,
I can't comment on features such as activities, but Spynie always looks clean and cared for. The sadness of seeing my father decline is eased by the reassurance he is in kind and caring hands. Huge congratulations to the team for turning around Spynie's fortunes.

I visited my partner at Spynie Care Home yesterday. He moved on the 18th August to be 10 minutes from his daughter as we could not find a care home near our home up to the standard and value of Spynie. I am very happy at how he has settled despite his health issues - dementia. Because of covid19, I
was unable to see his room or any of the facilities and activities available. I was aproned/masked/well hand washed before my partner was brought in. He was well dressed, clean, comfortable and by all accounts eating well. Staff have a very good rapport with residents. I was dreading this 1st visit, but have a huge sense of relief that my partner is in good, caring hands under a very professional manager.

I went to visit my father using social distancing. It went very well, and the layout was prepared well. My dad did look unwell, and I was worried about how thin he looked. I understand that the staff can't make him eat. He has complained in the past about the food being cold, so I'm not sure if he isn't
eating due to that or if he has lost his appetite. It's reassuring that he is being looked after.

Staff are very friendly, compassionate and professional. Every time I visit, my father is happy and well cared for, and when I leave, I am happy in my heart knowing he is in the best place in an almost family environment. A big well done and thank you to all the staff for their dedication.

The staff show great patience even when explaining things to residents for the hundredth time!
They have a lot of (essential) paperwork to keep on top of.
I just hope that I can keep working enough beyond 70 to finance my mother's stay!

The home has staff issues, but in general, my mother is well looked after. I am aware that some managers do not liaise with the staff as I would do as an ex-company director.

When recently visiting my friend who has dementia, I found that she had faeces under her fingernails and dried food around her mouth. When I asked a staff member if she would clean the nails she said: "We know about it and we will do it when everyone has gone"!! Furthermore, I was aware that the staff
were leaving 7 people with dementia associated difficulties without a member of staff in attendance for long periods of time eg.
10-15minutes.

My Mother was transferred to Spynie Care Home as a palliative patient during March 2018. The staff immediately made my mother and myself feel supported during this difficult time. Our modern room was at the end of a corridor with large windows overlooking the gardens, having an en-suite shower and built
in wardrobe along with comfortable seating and a recliner chair which was invaluable during overnight stays. The staff encouraged us to bring mementos to make the room as homely as possible.
All family members could visit whenever they liked and were always greeted with a smile by the on-duty staff, even when it was noticeable that they were busy with their daily errands and responsibilities. The Duty Staff Nurse liaised well with the District Nurse to ensure my mothers care package was administered with dignity.
When my mother finally passed away, the duty staff were fantastic and very caring, allowing us the space and time to gather our thoughts.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.648)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.648) out of 10 for Spynie Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.702 for Spynie Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (40 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 57 Ratings = 4.702
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.946 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Spynie Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.2 = 0.446
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
