Although subjective, I am pleased with the overall service my mother receives. In the passed communication has not always be best but care has been good. I have noticed at times staff are challenged due to under staffing and moral has been low. I do not expect care to be as good as if my mother was
at home, were she would receive one to one care but she does receive personal and quality care. I would like more consistency with diet control and medication review, and I have noticed better communication about changes in home and my mothers care.

Excellent home and caring staff. Very impressed.
Manager spent time with us and showed empathy at a very difficult time,he was the main reason we chose the Maltings and I'm glad we did, he even came in late in the weekend to answer questions.
Food ok, activities are ok but I know future plans are
exciting and already made to feel apart of a family.
Good spacious rooms

Staff - carers do an amazing job, but sometimes need to be a bit more motivated.
Communication needs to be better between staff - relatives
Items that go missing from rooms need to be motivated to find these things.
Manager I find approachable - Listens to my moans and problems.
Mum is happy in
The Maltings and she is safe.
Reply from Natasha Gwyther, Head of Marketing & Communications at The Maltings Care Home

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. We're really pleased to hear that your mum is happy and feels safe at The Maltings - that means a great deal to us. We're also glad you've found the manager approachable and willing to listen, as open communication with families is incredibly important. We appreciate your kind words about the carers and the important work they do. At the same time, we take on board your observations around motivation, communication, and the issue of missing items. These are all areas we are actively working to improve as Fortava Healthcare continues to implement new systems and processes at The Maltings. As these changes take effect, we hope you'll start to see more consistency in communication and a stronger sense of teamwork across the staff. Our aim is to provide a well-coordinated and compassionate environment where both residents and their families feel supported and reassured. Thank you again for your review

My mother was in The Maltings for just 8 weeks following a stay in hospital. Mum had previously been living in her own house with carers and myself going in daily. However, mum became very poorly and deteriorated rapidly. The care and support she received from everyone she encountered was amazing, from
the carers to the nurses and management. I cannot thank the staff enough for all their help and support, including for me at times. As my mum was nearing the end of her life, the staff were so kind and on the 11th August, she died peacefully in her sleep. Many thanks to everyone, who made her last few weeks safe, supported and comfortable.

My mother was in The Maltings from Nov 2017 until June 2018 following an accident which had left her in hospital for the previous 4 months. Whilst she was there we were overall happy with the care she received and the majority of the staff. The home is light and airy and easy to get around in a wheelchair.
Being dog-friendly was good too as we were able to visit with our dog. The food was mostly good although sometimes was a little bland. The staff were mostly excellent - there were a few issues we reported with some of the night carers, but many of them were so lovely when she left as she had got to know them well. She was lucky that there was a lady in the room opposite with whom she became very good friends; as she did not have dementia her fear was she might be isolated and it's important for the staff to ensure people are put in rooms with others they can build relationships with.
Overall she was treated with dignity and whilst glad to move home, she was not unhappy there.

From the first day of becoming a resident until her death, my mother-in-law was treated with a high-level care and dedication. All staff took a keen interest in her welfare, taking time to get to know her, her interests and all members of her family.

Upon arrival whatever the time of the day, there

was always a friendly face to welcome us and if necessary give us an update on her progress.

The room my mum is in is cleaned every day and is done to an excellent standard. The food is cooked fresh every day and is excellent. The Nurses are very nice and always on hand if needed. The Carers always find time to talk/assist the residents. The Nurses and Carers always welcome people and make
it feel very nice and friendly. My mum has been very well looked after and I wouldn't change anything.

The Maltings came recommended to me. What an amazing home. My mum had first class care in a friendly, caring environment. Beautiful rooms, exceptionally clean. My mum was kept clean (superbly washed clothes) but most of all the staff from the owner who accompanied my mum to hospital to the very special
care assistants were amazing. Highly recommended.

We know our mother is in the best place to deal with her day to day needs, as she gets older so do we.
Mum is safe, looked after and warm.
Food is well presented and at regular times also fluids throughout the day. We have found the carers have patience with everyone and make visitors welcome.
The
staff have a difficult job, it would be good if there were more of them so that they had more time to sit and chat with residents but that isn't always possible.

My wife has advanced Alzheimer's. She entered the care home on 7th July and almost immediately they had her dressed, out of her bedroom and partially feeding herself for the first time in over 20 months. I am most impressed by the caring nature and warmth from all the staff and can relax knowing she
is well cared for.

My review covers the time my father has been in The Maltings as I haven't had anything happen in this time that I can pinpoint. My father has always had very good care since he's been in The Maltings. The nursing staff, down to the laundry staff have been exceptionally kind, caring and compassionate.
I
can honestly say that when I've been away, that I know he's in good hands. If I have worries or concerns, the nursing and care staff are always there for me and listen with kindness and reassurance. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this care home to anyone. I've made some lovely friends in the home as well as some residents family as well.

I accompanied my mother to The Maltings from hospital in October 2016. From the moment she was shown to her room on the nursing floor, mam was made so welcome by all the staff making sure she was comfortable and had something to eat and drink. I was impressed from the start and continued to be so until
mam passed away in December 2016. All the staff treated her with great care, attention and patience during her stay. The nurses were always happy to talk to me about her progress either at visiting time or on the phone and kept me fully informed of her condition and medical treatment. In particular, the nurses at The Maltings were brilliant, constantly monitoring mam's pain to try and make her comfortable as possible right until the end. I am so grateful she spent her last months at The Maltings and I could not have asked for more. They all do an amazing job.

The Maltings Care Home is a very comfortable and friendly home. The rooms are large, comfortable and accessible. The garden is large, well kept and stocked with a large selection of herbaceous perennial plants. Parking is good and accessible. The care is excellent with a very caring and dedicated staff.
My wife is very happy there and well looked after. The catering is very good thanks to the dedicated chef. The activities coordinator does an amazing job with plenty of things to do and visits are organised. My wife is very lucky to be in The Maltings Care Home and as her husband, I know she is getting the best available care. I have always been made to feel welcome and I am looked after by the carers when I visit which makes me feel at home.

My husband has been a resident in The Maltings for over a year. The building is well planned it is purpose built and the rooms are well furnished and comfortable. The staff are kind and efficient and everywhere is spotlessly clean. Everybody says the food is good but as my husband has to have his food
liquidised and I am not there at meal times I cannot give an honest opinion about this. There are frequent visits from entertainers which the residents appear to enjoy. I am glad that we chose The Maltings.

Current Review Score: 7.7 (7.693)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.7 (7.693) out of 10 for The Maltings Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.143 for The Maltings Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (9 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 35 Ratings = 4.143
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.55 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Maltings Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.3
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
