Our mum came to Thorpe Wood care home in 2025, following a fall at home and a hospital stay, where it was decided her needs could no longer be met at home. She was welcomed at Thorpe Wood with open arms - hugged, and gently guided to her new room. The care since that day has been wonderful, and as a
family we have been kept up to date and involved. Mum enjoys the daily activities which range from watercolour painting to listening to singers and pianists. She particularly loves the gardens, with the fish pond and sheltered gazebo so she can be outside even when the weather isn't great. The staff understand mum's needs and look after her well. We are so glad that mum has found her new home at Thorpe Wood during what is a difficult time of her life.
Reply from Natasha Gwyther, Head of Marketing & Communications at Thorpe Wood Care HomeThank you so much for your lovely review and for sharing your mum's journey with us at Thorpe Wood care home. We know how emotional the transition into care can be, so we're truly pleased that she was welcomed with warmth from her very first day and that you've felt informed, involved, and supported throughout. It's wonderful to hear she's enjoying the activities, music, and time spent relaxing in the gardens.
Your kind words about our team mean a great deal to us. Providing compassionate, dignified care in a safe and homely environment is at the heart of everything we do, and we feel privileged to care for your mum and be part of your family's journey. Thank you for placing your trust in us.

Mum is well looked after, always clean and tidy. All the staff speak to her and connect with her. She doesn't wear a denture and they will always ask her what she wants to eat for lunch. Activities do go on which is so good for her. Her room is very roomy and comfortable. Large en-suite as a wet room.
She is very happy here.

We chose Thorpe Wood care home for our mother just over a year ago.

We are so pleased we made the right choice for our Mum who has Alzheimers.

The home is modern purpose built, beautifully decorated and very clean. Staff are excellent and her care needs are catered for extremely well.

The activities

are excellent and our Mum has really benefitted from the stimulation from the entertainment - she loves the piano sing alongs, weekly disco and monthly church service. Organised events for family have also been great for us all to participate in.

The level of detail in the care reports is excellent and shows the extent of their knowledge of the residents and care provided.

Our Mum is has improved with regard to her diet, sleep, hydration and routine medication and is so much happier and less anxious since moving in. We can now have much better conversations with her as she feels secure and cared for.

We would certainly recommend Thorpe Wood to other families.

Jim spent 3 months at the Maltings care home recovering from a hip fracture and post operative delirium, he has dementia too. I visited him daily at different times, on every visit I was welcomed by the staff.
The building is excellent; all the rooms are spacious with large on-suite wet rooms.
The
food is really, really, good and what is lovely at mealtimes is how the staff interact with the residents. There is a meal choice, and everyone is shown the meals to help them decide. Residents are encouraged and enabled to eat independently and are helped whenever it's needed.
The staff, and I mean everyone, have been incredibly kind and gentle in every interaction I've seen, my husband is clean and is always in his own clothes. There are many different activities that all residents are invited to engage in, it's clear a lot of thought goes into keeping resident's minds and bodies active. The carpark is smallish but work is underway to increase capacity and i managed to park ok daily.
Reply from Natasha Gwyther, Head of Marketing & Communications at The Maltings Care HomeThank you so much for sharing such a detailed and generous review of Jim's time at The Maltings. It truly means a great deal to everyone in our team.
It was a privilege to support Jim during his recovery, and we're so pleased to hear that you felt welcomed and reassured on every visit. Knowing that you consistently experienced kindness, gentleness, and genuine care from all members of staff is incredibly important to us, and your words will be shared with the whole team - they will be very proud to hear the impact they made.
We're delighted that you found the environment comfortable, the meals enjoyable, and that mealtimes felt positive and respectful. Encouraging independence while providing support when needed is something we value deeply, as is offering meaningful activities that help keep residents engaged both mentally and physically.
Thank you also for your understanding regarding the car parking while improvements are underway - we appreciate your patience.

My mother has been a resident at Thorpe Wood care home since July 2023.
It is a modern well appointed home with excellent facilities for the residents.
My mother has dementia and multiple sclerosis which means looking after her is extremely challenging. This is where the homes best asset , its staff,
come into their own. Nothing is too much trouble, and the level of attention and support given to my mother has been above and beyond my expectations.
From my mother's perspective ,she enjoys the food and menu options which are varied and cooked on the premises. Her room is kept extremely clean and tidy. Activities are varied and there is always something going on which keeps the mood and energy levels up.
I can say nothing but positive things about the home ,and its staff ,and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anybody whose loved one needs to be in residential care.

My Father has been a resident of Thorpe Wood Care Home since April. As a family, we couldn't be happier with the level of care Dad is receiving. All the care and nursing staff are fabulous, nothing is ever too much trouble, and we feel secure in the knowledge that Dad is safe and well looked after.
The Activities Coordinator does an outstanding job in lifting the spirits of the residents, staff and families, with the likes of arts and crafts, discos, quizzes, bingo, piano singalongs, etc. I absolutely love visiting TWCH, engaging with the activities and seeing all the staff, residents and families that have now become familiar faces. It is clear that TWCH is more than just a care home, it is also a community, and everyone is made to feel welcome. The layout of the building, and its facilities, are extremely well thought out, and the garden area is picturesque, relaxing and calming. All indications are that the change of ownership to Fortava is proving to be an extremely positive one.

We're delighted to hear how well your father is settling in at Thorpe Wood, and it means a great deal to us that the positive changes brought in since Fortava's involvement are being seen and felt. Creating a safe, supportive and uplifting environment is exactly what we aim for.

My late mum was a resident from Dec 2023 until she passed away in July 2025. During her time there she was treated with respect and dignity. Mum was never one to join in much with activities but was always encouraged to do so by the lovely staff. She enjoyed watching others and the staff would sit and
chat to her. She made many friends whilst a resident. When mum was in her final days of life the staff looked after her needs and kept her comfortable and out of pain. My sister and I slept in her room and the new owners purchased fold up guest beds for us. Nothing was too much trouble. I would certainly recommend Thorpe Wood to anyone looking for a care home for their loved one. The ownership changed just before mum passed away but the initial signs were that Fortava were going to continue the good work.

Although subjective, I am pleased with the overall service my mother receives. In the passed communication has not always be best but care has been good. I have noticed at times staff are challenged due to under staffing and moral has been low. I do not expect care to be as good as if my mother was
at home, were she would receive one to one care but she does receive personal and quality care. I would like more consistency with diet control and medication review, and I have noticed better communication about changes in home and my mothers care.

Items that go missing from rooms need to be motivated to find these things.

Reply from Natasha Gwyther, Head of Marketing & Communications at The Maltings Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. We're really pleased to hear that your mum is happy and feels safe at The Maltings - that means a great deal to us. We're also glad you've found the manager approachable and willing to listen, as open communication with families is incredibly important. We appreciate your kind words about the carers and the important work they do. At the same time, we take on board your observations around motivation, communication, and the issue of missing items. These are all areas we are actively working to improve as Fortava Healthcare continues to implement new systems and processes at The Maltings. As these changes take effect, we hope you'll start to see more consistency in communication and a stronger sense of teamwork across the staff. Our aim is to provide a well-coordinated and compassionate environment where both residents and their families feel supported and reassured. Thank you again for your review

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Overall I would highly recommend Thorpe Wood Care Home.
My family looked at other care homes and unanimously agreed this was the best choice.
The garden is beautiful with nice features. The lounges were smaller individual areas within a larger overall space making it more personal at times.
Nice
touches for the relatives too with a gift basket in the room at the end of life containing water, biscuits, crisps etc. Very thoughtful.
Bedrooms are a very good size and work well with visitors. Plenty of room for personal items to be taken in and memory boxes on the wall are a lovely idea.
Most of all, the staff were outstanding all of which contributes to a reassurance that relatives are being well looked after.
Not only was it emotional to lose our mum but we miss the superb team that cared for her.
