My mother has been a resident at Thorpe Wood care home since July 2023.
It is a modern well appointed home with excellent facilities for the residents.
My mother has dementia and multiple sclerosis which means looking after her is extremely challenging. This is where the homes best asset , its staff,
come into their own. Nothing is too much trouble, and the level of attention and support given to my mother has been above and beyond my expectations.
From my mother's perspective ,she enjoys the food and menu options which are varied and cooked on the premises. Her room is kept extremely clean and tidy. Activities are varied and there is always something going on which keeps the mood and energy levels up.
I can say nothing but positive things about the home ,and its staff ,and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anybody whose loved one needs to be in residential care.
Reply from Natasha Gwyther, Head of Marketing & Communications at Thorpe Wood Care HomeThank you so much for your incredibly kind and thoughtful review Gary. My Father has been a resident of Thorpe Wood Care Home since April. As a family, we couldn't be happier with the level of care Dad is receiving. All the care and nursing staff are fabulous, nothing is ever too much trouble, and we feel secure in the knowledge that Dad is safe and well looked after.
The Activities Coordinator does an outstanding job in lifting the spirits of the residents, staff and families, with the likes of arts and crafts, discos, quizzes, bingo, piano singalongs, etc. I absolutely love visiting TWCH, engaging with the activities and seeing all the staff, residents and families that have now become familiar faces. It is clear that TWCH is more than just a care home, it is also a community, and everyone is made to feel welcome. The layout of the building, and its facilities, are extremely well thought out, and the garden area is picturesque, relaxing and calming. All indications are that the change of ownership to Fortava is proving to be an extremely positive one.
Reply from Natasha Gwyther, Head of Marketing & Communications at Thorpe Wood Care HomeDavid, thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful review. We're truly grateful for your kind words.
We're delighted to hear how well your father is settling in at Thorpe Wood, and it means a great deal to us that the positive changes brought in since Fortava's involvement are being seen and felt. Creating a safe, supportive and uplifting environment is exactly what we aim for.
A huge thank you goes to the entire Thorpe Wood team. Their dedication, compassion and commitment to building a warm, vibrant community shines through every day - from the exceptional care they provide to the activities that bring so much joy to residents, families and staff. We are incredibly proud of the environment they've created and of everything they do to make Thorpe Wood feel like a true home.

My late mum was a resident from Dec 2023 until she passed away in July 2025. During her time there she was treated with respect and dignity. Mum was never one to join in much with activities but was always encouraged to do so by the lovely staff. She enjoyed watching others and the staff would sit and
chat to her. She made many friends whilst a resident. When mum was in her final days of life the staff looked after her needs and kept her comfortable and out of pain. My sister and I slept in her room and the new owners purchased fold up guest beds for us. Nothing was too much trouble. I would certainly recommend Thorpe Wood to anyone looking for a care home for their loved one. The ownership changed just before mum passed away but the initial signs were that Fortava were going to continue the good work.
Reply from Natasha Gwyther, Head of Marketing & Communications at Thorpe Wood Care HomeThank you Karen for sharing such a thoughtful and heartfelt review. We're truly touched by your kind words and so grateful that you took the time to reflect on your mum's experience at Thorpe Wood. It's wonderful to hear that she was treated with the respect and dignity she deserved, and that she was surrounded by caring staff and friends throughout her time here. We're especially glad that, in her final days, she was kept comfortable and supported, and that we were able to make things a little easier for you and your sister during such a difficult time. We're also genuinely pleased to know that the positive impact of Fortava's involvement is being recognised. As new owners, our commitment is to build on Thorpe Wood's already great reputation and continue delivering the compassionate, high-quality care that families can trust.Thank you again for your warm recommendation. Although subjective, I am pleased with the overall service my mother receives. In the passed communication has not always be best but care has been good. I have noticed at times staff are challenged due to under staffing and moral has been low. I do not expect care to be as good as if my mother was
at home, were she would receive one to one care but she does receive personal and quality care. I would like more consistency with diet control and medication review, and I have noticed better communication about changes in home and my mothers care.

We are currently recruiting for these newly created vacancies to ensure our team has the resources needed to deliver the very best care consistently. We are also committed to further strengthening communication with families and enhancing the consistency of both diet management and medication reviews. Your feedback supports our ongoing focus on these priorities, and we are grateful for your input.Thank you again for sharing your experience - we are dedicated to ensuring that your mother continues to receive personal, high-quality care, and we look forward to keeping you updated on our progress.

Staff - carers do an amazing job, but sometimes need to be a bit more motivated.
Communication needs to be better between staff - relatives
Items that go missing from rooms need to be motivated to find these things.
Manager I find approachable - Listens to my moans and problems.
Mum is happy in
The Maltings and she is safe.
Reply from Natasha Gwyther, Head of Marketing & Communications at The Maltings Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. We're also glad you've found the manager approachable and willing to listen, as open communication with families is incredibly important. We appreciate your kind words about the carers and the important work they do. At the same time, we take on board your observations around motivation, communication, and the issue of missing items. These are all areas we are actively working to improve as Fortava Healthcare continues to implement new systems and processes at The Maltings. Overall I would highly recommend Thorpe Wood Care Home.
My family looked at other care homes and unanimously agreed this was the best choice.
The garden is beautiful with nice features. The lounges were smaller individual areas within a larger overall space making it more personal at times.
Nice
touches for the relatives too with a gift basket in the room at the end of life containing water, biscuits, crisps etc. Very thoughtful.
Bedrooms are a very good size and work well with visitors. Plenty of room for personal items to be taken in and memory boxes on the wall are a lovely idea.
Most of all, the staff were outstanding all of which contributes to a reassurance that relatives are being well looked after.
Not only was it emotional to lose our mum but we miss the superb team that cared for her.

I highly recommend Thorpe Wood Care Home. While the cleanliness is good, the quality of the food excellent, the activities varied and expertly given, what really sets it apart is the quality of all the team. Everyone is exceptional - the chefs, the cleaners, the activities coordinators, the admin team,
the care and nursing teams. All staff showed respect to the residents and to each other, there is a calmness and an atmosphere of support, and fun. A real community. My sister and I knew that our brother was surrounded by caring, friendly and familiar faces during his final days, making him comfortable and secure. A huge and heartfelt thank you.

Thorpe Wood Care Home took care of our father back in 2021, only for twelve days after poor care at another care home. There was no hesitation when we had to put Mum into a care home in September 2023. This home is amazing, the love care and support they show the residents is just above and beyond.
It actually moved us to tears when we first viewed. On many occasions, we’ve watched how endearing the staff are here, not only do they look after your loved ones, they look after you on every visit too. We could never thank them enough for taking care of our mother and father in their dying days, you are such special people. Thank you Thorpe Wood staff, you are all amazing people.

I cannot sing this place's praises any louder. The care is excellent. The building and the rooms are beautiful. The staff are the loveliest and most genuine people ever. Both of my grandparents have passed away in this place. Most recently, my grandma on Sunday. Every day they dressed her and it was
the little details that meant the most to us, they would put in her earrings and make sure she had necklaces on, the things we used to forget as a family. When we weren’t there, staff would sit with her, speak to her and treat her the way you want your family to be treated. This is a care home. It was a home for her where she was cared for in a way we are so thankful for. They have made losing two of the most important people to us an easier experience. I cannot thank them enough.

My father recently passed away after being with Thorpe Wood for a few months. To secure a place here for him after visiting many care homes in the area, was perfect and at just the right time. The staff have been amazing, from the moment he arrived, he was treated with the utmost respect and given the
best care to support his needs. He was losing weight and muscle so quickly and had been depriving himself of sleep and skipping meals before, but they got him settled, managed to get him sleeping again and got him eating regularly. They supported him and our family on every occasion and escorted him to hospital appointments. When times became difficult they made sure the whole family were kept informed of everything we needed to know. The last few months were troublesome emotionally, but knowing how well they were looking after my father was a massive comfort. All the family and my father were so well supported at every moment until he passed - my thanks to every one of the staff.

I have been very happy with the management and all the staff at Thorpe Wood Care home they have looked after my mother since May 2022. When she came into the home last year mum was very frail and lost a lot of weight due to her illness. Whilst in the home the staff made sure she had milkshakes and breakfast
and gradually built up her eating. Whereby mum put on weight. All of the staff were very vigilant regarding mum's health whilst at the home and were very professional in dealing with any illnesses making sure that she was taken to hospital if they were concerned.
I cannot praise the staff enough for their attention and care they showed my mother. Nothing was too much trouble at any time. I regularly received feedback and contact with all the staff who reassured me if I had any concerns. I decided to move my mother closer to where I live as we are able to visit her now regularly and involve her more in our lives, but made in the best interest and wishes of my mother.
Thank you all.

My dearly loved mother-in-law has recently passed away at Thorpe Wood Care Home. Even as we are missing her so much, I feel I must just publicly say how wonderful her care has been during her four years of residence. Mum was the second resident to move to Thorpe Wood, having toured the building and
selected her room whilst decorating and other work was still being completed. Many of the staff have been with her since those early days and have become like a second family. Mum said she felt ‘at home’ - who could ask for anything more.
Her final days were spent in the nursing wing of the home where her care continued to be based on her needs and wishes. The staff took such care of us as a family too, from the endless cups of tea, plates of biscuits and sandwiches to a care basket for us to use and hugs whenever we needed them.
We cannot recommend the family at Thorpe Wood highly enough. Thank you for being part of our lives.
Reply from Amar Marjara, Director at Thorpe Wood Care HomeThank you for your wonderfully kind words. Mum will always have a special place in our hearts, especially being at Thorpe Wood from the onset, you could say that Mum was one of the pioneers of the home.
